For the first time ever, the Tribeca Film Festival has selected a documentary as its opening night film. And what a unique documentary. Mistaken for Strangers chronicles the misadventures of Tom Berninger as he works as a roadie for his brother's band, The National. Lead singer Matt Berninger points out that Tom "was hoping he was going on tour with Mötley Crüe, and it's like, we're not Mötley Crüe. Like he got a lot of footage of guys on their laptops. And he got bored, and that led him to sort of some maybe bad behavior, and ultimately getting fired."

Two new international trailers have dropped for Only God Forgives, Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn's next film with Ryan Gosling, and they're sinewy, tense numbers that do an effective job of ratcheting up anticipation for the picture. Audiences at the Cannes Film Festival will get to see the movie on May 22, while U.S. moviegoers will have to wait until July 19. more »
Sex and horror have long been cinematic kindred spirits for decades now, whether you're talking The Phantom of the Opera, Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, the Hammer horror films of the 1970s, the Friday the 13th franchise or Re-Animator. And in today's crowded media marketplace the dual themes seem to have become even more prevalent — and graphic. The last 24 hours have seen the release of two film clips that mix gore and sex in memorable ways. Check it out: more »
Johnny Depp and Kate Moss have inspired a song. L.A. musical duo, He Met Her, has put out an EP called Love Heroes that's influenced by famous couples throughout history, and one of the tracks, "Toknight We Ride (Johnny & Kate)", is a dreamy tribute to the Pirates of the Caribbean star and the super model, who had a tempestuous four-year affair in the 1990s. more »
The Hangover Part III Director Todd Phillips has said that the final installment of his trilogy will focus on Zach Galifianakis' character, Alan. Who it won't be about, apparently — at least in terms of screen time — is Justin Bartha's character Doug. more »
I'm not sure what to expect from the The Lords of Salem after watching this clip. Director Rob Zombie appears to be having a Rodgers & Hammerstein moment as his wife, Sheri Moon Zombie, who plays a DJ, takes a very long walk in Day of the Dead make-up to meet one of the Lords in the title. more »
Hey, Iron Man 3 fans. I've got some more visuals for you. MTV will be showing an extended clip from the hotly anticipated Marvel movie during its MTV Movie Awards presentation on Sunday, which begins at 9 p.m. And as is the practice these days, the cable channel has put out a teaser clip to whet your appetite. Not much new here — Tony Stark's existential anguish is apparent, already! — although the scene depicting the arrival of the Iron Men appears to be more of a close-up than the one used in previous clips. more »
Hey, what's with cats and horror? By the end of the day, everyone in your office will be talking about the eye-popping (literally) werewolf-transformation scene from the Eli Roth-produced Netflix series Hemlock Grove. If you haven't seen it, I've posted it below. Just make sure you've digested your lunch and that your boss isn't watching. It's that graphic. more »
There's a new TV spot for Iron Man 3 out, and it drops a few new tantalizing images and hints. The clip begins with the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) channeling Richard Nixon with some "My fellow Americans" shtick before proclaiming that "my soldiers will destroy your country." more »
Even if you have no tolerance for Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen, you've got to admit they can take a joke. My expectations were not high for scandal magnets' scenes together in Scary Movie V, but this clip is actually a hoot. more »
To counter the operatic heat of Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, I now bring you the cinematic cool of Nicolas Winding Refn and Ryan Gosling. A zen-like calm dominates this red band trailer for Only God Forgives, despite some very violent shit going down. more »
With Fede Alvarez's remake of Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead about to hit theaters on Friday, it's a good time to take the Hot Tub Time Machine back to 1979 when rotary dial phones were still common and the Oz The Great and Powerful director was just an aspiring filmmaker with an idea for a bloody and original horror film. more »
The cool thing about genuinely funny people is that they can get laughs out of doing the same thing over and over and over again. When mere mortals are intentionally repetitive, they usually get punched in the face. On Tuesday night, Paul Rudd appeared on Conan O'Brien's TBS talk show with what he claimed was a clip from the highly anticipated Anchorman 2. "This is going to go crazy viral," said Conan, setting up what has been a running joke between the two men for a while now. more »
A few weeks ago I wrote about the importance of Robert Downey Jr. to the future phases of Marvel's superhero film rollout. With Tuesday's release of the limited edition Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Blu-ray box set comes some corroboration, plus a cool scene of Iron Man doing some acrobatic hot-dogging just to put on his mask. more »
So, you think you want to see Evil Dead but you're not sure whether you've got the stomach for it? Here's one way of gauging your gore threshold. Check out this red band clip of the cheek-cutting scene from Fede Alvarez's remake of Sam Raimi's horror classic. Intense stuff, although not without humor: The moment where Eric (Lou Taylor Pucci) slips on the flap of cheek that Mia (Jane Levy) has removed from her cheek is a great update on the classic banana-peel gag. more »
