Despite a relatively quiet Cannes reception that offset some early great expectations, my anticipation remains high for Cosmopolis, David Cronenberg's adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel. This new US trailer doesn't hurt, plunking leading man Robert Pattinson into the middle of a global cataclysm that's partly of his making and partly just Welcome to New York - Now Go Crazy.

Get excited for the first teaser for Skyfall, which steps beyond gay-travel-brochure stylings, Heineken gambits, and Photoshop banalities into a more conventional realm of 007 viral marketing. To wit: Daniel Craig, working his wounded, blue-eyed magic as the world's most tormented superspy. Things are getting dark around here! Which doesn't mean we can't have a little fun — at least visually, right?

Everybody is talking about that new Prometheus trailer unveiled last week. You know — the one that spoils most of the movie. At least that’s what they’re saying. I haven’t seen it and I don’t intend to. It’s bad enough the first trailer showed what I suspect is a major character’s “I’m dying” face. Hollywood needs to take a lesson from the original Alien, whose trailer is the gold standard of film promotion: Aren’t you glad it didn’t spoil the chestburster scene? Or show Tom Skerritt getting it in the air duct? The following trailers, however, are the equivalent of pyrite. Warning: Spoilers ahead.

It's been nearly two and a half years since word first came of Kevin Spacey heading off to China, where the Oscar winner and noted cell-phone critic would become the first major star to lead a fully Chinese-funded production. On the one hand, the difference between the domestic and international trailers for Prometheus is staggering: The former sells atmosphere and legacy while the latter sells both of those and story (and Charlize Theron, I guess). On the other hand, they have the most important component in common: They sell the hell out of Ridley Scott's Alien throwback.

The thing I love about the ramped-up new Rock of Ages trailer is how unapologetically it states what this movie is: A bombastic, cheeky, kitschy, bright-eyed and utterly slick tribute to the decadence of '80s rock culture, based on the even slicker Broadway hit of the same name. Which of course you already know — but now, with Tom Cruise's brief singing showcase and pretty much everyone else warbling adapted pop show tunes of their own, Warner Bros. and New Line's cards are on the table. There can be no ambiguity: You are either in or you are out. In this era of equivocation and overlapping quadrants and being everything to everyone, it's pretty ballsy when you think about it.

The inheritance/estrangement/salvation plot (and a vaguely incestuous vibe that the trailer mostly counteracts with a few key shots of Olivia Wilde as Pine's wife) thickens around the family, with Michelle Pfeiffer dropping in as Pine's mother, which is just as bizarre as I expected it would be. Overall, though? Screenwriter Alex Kurtzman's directorial debut looks all right!

Now that Piranha 3DD finally has an official release date, it's time to roll out a very, very NSFW new red-band trailer for your viewing consideration. It is base, oversexed, gory, cheap-looking and patently disgusting in pretty much every conceivable way, featuring such steps down as stripper lifeguards, midcoital piranha attacks, and Gary Busey chewing the head off a live fish. It's all just stupid enough to be kind of awesome.
