Say Hello To My Metal Friends: New 'Iron Man 3' Poster Reveals Alloyed Forces

Say Hello To My Metal Friends: New 'Iron Man 3' Poster Reveals Alloyed Forces

A new Iron Man 3 trailer will hit the Internets on March 5.  In the meantime, Yahoo! has posted this exclusive new poster, which depicts an army of iron men rising behind a clearly cheesed-off Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) whose armored suit is behaving like an iPhone that was accidentally dropped into a toilet. According to SlashFilm, this reveal may be a reference to the rumored climax of the movie in which Stark summons some multiple metal wingmen to kick some Mandarin pu pu platter, or whoever it is that's causing all the trouble in his life.  more »

The Mandarin Flosses Some Gangnam Style In New 'Iron Man 3' Poster

The Mandarin Flosses Some Gangnam Style In New 'Iron Man 3' Poster

Back in October, I wrote about how Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was spinning Iron Man 3 villain the Mandarin as international rather than Chinese, his ethnicity in the Marvel universe.  “It’s less about his specific ethnicity than the symbolism of various cultures and iconography that he perverts for his own end,”  Feige told Entertainment Weekly at the time. The Mandarin's topknot is supposed to evoke a Japanese samurai while EW called his beard "bin Laden-esque." more »

More Peter Dinklage, Please! Four More Big Sequel Roles The Newly Minted 'X-Men' Actor Should Score

More Peter Dinklage, Please! Four More Big Sequel Roles The Newly Minted 'X-Men' Actor Should Score

Director Bryan Singer  told Deadline yesterday that Emmy-winning actor Peter Dinklage will play a “key role” in X-Men: Second Class Days Of Future Past. This is, of course, great news for the spiffily dressed but not terribly interesting Mad Men mutants. Fans of Game of Thrones, Elf, 30 Rock, and The Station Agent have long known that Dinklage brings intelligence, gravity, and a scary-sharp wit to every production. In fact, I’d go so far as to declare that Dinklage is such a valuable asset every tentpole this year should add him to its cast. The Words of Peter need to spread far and wide.

WATCH: 'World War Z'-ero! Ranking The Super Bowl Movie Trailers From Worst To Best

Even if you didn't watch the big game last night, you know that a) Beyonce brought the house — or was it the lights? — down, and b) six big movie trailers aired during the game: Star Trek Into DarknessIron Man 3, The Lone Ranger, Oz The Great and Powerful, World War Z and Fast & Furious 6. All were designed to whet the record-setting viewing audience's appetite for these films. Not all of them were successful.  Below, I rank the trailers from worst to best in terms of how effective they were at making me want to see the movies they were promoting.  more »

Studios Fork Over Big Cash For Super Bowl XLVII

Studios Fork Over Big Cash For Super Bowl XLVII

The Super Bowl's notoriously pricey ad spots already cost a chunk of change well into the seven figures last year and it's set to head well northward for 30 seconds of airtime this Sunday. But that has not scared away movie studios from snapping up commercial time on Super Bowl XLVII.

Marvel Unmasks New 'Iron Man 3' Images

Marvel Unmasks New 'Iron Man 3' Images

Iron Patriot, Tony Stark and more are on full view courtesy of Marvel. Marvel's Iron Man 3 which is set for a May 2013 release and starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall and Jon Favreau, may seem a long way off, but fans are getting a peek at the action/adventure/sci-fi with four new pics.

Directed by Shane Black, the story centers on Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) who goes up against a powerful enemy: The Mandarin. New images depict the Iron Patriot armor (main photo), Rebecca Hall looking a bit scruffed up, Downey, Jr. as Stark in an immaculate goatee and a iron mask in-hand.

Log line:

Marvel’s “Iron Man 3” pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy's hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, “Iron Man 3” is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black.

Marvel Studios Says Iron Man 3 Villain The Mandarin Isn't Chinese, He's International

Marvel Studios Says Iron Man 3 Villain The Mandarin Isn't Chinese, He's International

When Entertainment Weekly posted an exclusive photo of actor Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin, the super-villain who rocks Tony Stark's world in the upcoming Iron Man 3, it resurrected a thorny question around the virtual office here.   In the Marvel universe, the Mandarin is the son of one of pre-Revolutionary China's wealthiest men and an English noblewoman, as well as a descendant of Ghengis Khan.  So, why, as Executive Editor Jen Yamato wondered when news broke that Ben Kingsley would play him, did the job go to a half-Indian, half-English actor?   more »

'Iron Man 3' Teaser-palooza! Trailer Foreshadows Pepper Potts' Peril

With the first Iron Man 3 trailer premiering on Tuesday, Disney whet franchise fans' appetites by releasing a 17-second teaser trailer and poster for the latest installment of the metallic Marvel superhero saga. The trailer is one of those blink-and-you-miss-it deals that raises more questions than it answers, but, based on  the movie-trailer-foreshadowing course I took in college, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow)  will be in some definite danger come May.  more »

'Iron Man 3' And 'Thor 2' Storylines Share Common Threads − They're 'Personal' And Vague

Walt Disney dropped a few more hints about the plots of Iron Man 3 and Thor 2:  The Dark World on Thursday, and, well, I wish I could say they were scintillating. In an effort not to give away the store, both synopses are fairly vague, although both stress how "personal" the battles they'll be waging are. more »

Yes, But What Does the First Photo from Iron Man 3 MEAN?

Iron Man 3 first image

You may look at this first photo from the set of Iron Man 3 and think, "Gee, Tony Stark has a lot of toys." I look at it — a shot of Robert Downey Jr. as Stark, gazing at his wall of Iron Man suits in a lab/Hall of Ego scattered with gadgets and gizmos aplenty — and remember I need to do laundry. Also, I need a bigger closet. Why does Tony Stark have so many wardrobe options?

Iron Man 3 - Coldblood

The Shane Black-helmed Iron Man 3 begins filming this month, but Marvel fans are still trying to piece together clues as to who, exactly, Iron Man is going up against in his post-Avengers threequel. The latest casting news doesn't make it any clearer: James Badge Dale, most recently seen in The Grey and Shame, will play Eric Savin, a soldier known from Marvel lore. But will Dale also portray the character as the superpowered mercenary he transforms into in the comics?
