The Dark Knight Rises director Christopher weighed in about the brouhaha that flared this week after some passionate Batman fans threw a fit after a spattering of negative reviews, resulting in aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes' decision to disable user comments for the time being. Nolan's final stint in the trilogy is expected to fetch box office records this weekend and so far reviews have been mostly positive, but a few critics gave TDKR a thumbs down and some fans went ballistic. Wednesday night at the film's London premiere, Nolan appeared to defend fans' emotional response.

No, really — I'm asking: "Scalpers reportedly are re-selling The Dark Knight Rises’ midnight IMAX tickets for $65-$100 apiece on both Craigslist and StubHub for NYC’s AMC Loews Lincoln Square 13 — higher even than for Avengers. Yet this may be my favorite Dark Knight Rises pre-release factoid so far: 'All the major circuits have asked for more frequent pickups from their Brink’s Truck drivers to deposit the record amount of cash they are anticipating,' a Warner Bros exec told me today." [Deadline]
Also in Wednesday morning's round-up of news briefs, Kino Lorber Films picks up a Tribeca Film Festival doc that spotlights the culture wars in the Texas school system. Wonder how red carpet guest Donald Trump enjoyed the flick, which sees the hulking villain Bane encourage the 99% to rise up and topple the system into ruin? Or if Hathaway shared the secrets of her Catwoman costume with feminist icon Gloria Steinem? Those snaps and more in Movieline's TDKR premiere gallery...

On Monday a shockwave rippled through the delicate ecosystem that is the internet, the place where fans, critics, commenters, bloggers, and lurkers live and breathe (and mouth-breathe), over the first reviews of The Dark Knight Rises. The Bat- and Christopher Nolan-faithful rose in arms against the first critics who dared break the news that the comic book movie threequel was maybe not the best movie of all time. Threats were made. Nasty comments were flung. Entire websites were overrun and taken out in retribution. So I ask you, Bat-fans: What Would Batman Do?

The Batmobile has had quite the evolution since actual volition appeared in the '60s television version to its altogether super-suped up version heading your way in The Dark Knight Rises. Its latest incarnation includes some nifty gadgetry including a rocket launcher, the vehicle's creator Andy Smith told Beyond The Trailer host Grace Randolph at Comic-Con where the vehicle, aka The Tumbler, is on display along with previous versions of The Batmobile. Smith has a history in race car work and worked on a car for a James Bond film and for an earlier Batmobile back in '89. The current Tumbler is a hybrid of a Humvee and Lamborghini and it's the only one that has ever been named something other than a 'Batmobile.'

Though that could change: "I've seen bits and pieces of them. Honestly, I'm not just saying this … I really kind of want to see the Chris Nolan one, because he's so crazy talented, so I'll keep saying, 'I gotta go see that, I gotta go see that,' and then like everything I still want to see, fuck, I just forget. There must be a hundred movies out there. I'll say, 'I gotta go see that.' And then I never get around to seeing them. Or maybe I'll see it later on television. I'm really bad at that. But I will tell you this: Every time I see clips of his movies, they look awesome. This trailer that's out now? Fuck, it looks unbelievable." [Grantland]
The Dark Knight Rises director heaped praise on actress Anne Hathaway ahead of the final Batman installment, which opens July 20th. He said Hathaway performed so well as the human-feline-vixen that she deserves her own spin-off movie. But that doesn't necessarily mean the British-born filmmaker will spearhead a Catwoman enterprise himself.

Why do we believe, or need to believe, in the possibilities that lie beyond the laws of physics and known science — the unlikely, irrational hope that suggest something more exists in the universe, be it spiritual or simply supernatural? Actor Cillian Murphy explores these Big Questions in Rodrigo Cortes' Red Lights as Tom Buckley, a paranormal debunker who goes head-to-head with a powerful pop psychic (Robert De Niro) whose self-proclaimed powers to bend spoons and read minds may be mere parlour tricks compared to what he's really capable of.

WB has delivered a final-final trailer in advance of The Dark Knight Rises' July 20 debut, filled with more explosions and Bane-shots than ever before! Watch as Tom Hardy hangs by his fingertips to an airplane seat, cool as a cucumber, as chaos erupts around him. Listen as he (almost-intelligibly, even!) calls out Bruce Wayne/Batman before tossing our hero's broken mask to the ground on his way to lunch. It's all in a day's work for Hardy's Bane, who's come to Gotham City to kick ass and chew, uh, scenery with frail Christian Bale and catty Anne Hathaway. And guess what he's run out of? Ass! No, wait. The other way around.

ScreenCrush reports on the recent rise in scalped offerings for Christopher Nolan's latest: "Tickets to the midnight IMAX screenings are popping up on eBay and Craigslist for over $100; at times an almost 80% markup...A few 'entrepreneurs' are even selling groups of seats for $500." Silly spending or essential expense? Sound off, Batfans. [ScreenCrush]
