One of the more intriguing science-fiction films screening at the Tribeca Film Festival is The Machine. Directed by Caradog James, whose last film was the 2006 racism dramedy Little White Lies, The Machine is ostensibly about a scientist obsessed with building a cybernetic super soldier. That's a familiar storyline, but based on the clues found in the synopsis and a batch of production stills that have been released, film looks like it may have as much to do with gender politics as it does with super soldiers. more »
If that LED hoodie that you see in the above photo is part of Jamie Foxx's Electro costume for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, then doesn't he remind you of another shocking villain: Star Wars uber-baddie Darth Sidious? Part of the resemblance has to do with the hunched way in which Foxx is carrying himself and holding his hands in the photo, but look at the comparison below: more »
Spike Lee's remake of Park Chan-wook's Oldboy doesn't hit theaters until October, and that just seems way too long to wait. I'm genuinely excited to see what Lee does with the material and am envisioning a revenge (and blood)-soaked 25th Hour. The good news is that FilmDistrict has finally dropped a tiny morsel from the upcoming film. The bad news: it's chicken scratch. more »
You know you're in Hobbit-land when Peter Jackson turns a mind-numbing question from Stephen Colbert about the Elves of Mirkwood into an observation about whether the coffee mugs on The Colbert Report are sanitary. more »
Edward who? Robert Pattinson has made some smart post-Twilight choices. After working with David Cronenberg in the memorably weird Cosmopolis, the heartthrob actor has now gone completely off-road for Animal Kingdom director David Michod's gritty, violent follow-up, The Rover, which is shooting in the unforgiving Australian desert. And judging from this first still from the set, the bedroom-eyed actor's sparkly vampire days are well behind him. more »
It's quite a day for outlandish costume design. First Lionsgate releases a bunch of posters featuring cast members from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire dressed in some memorable outfits, and now, well, filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has trumped them with a single image. The El Mariachi director gave EW.com an exclusive character poster from his upcoming Machete Kills movie that depicts Modern Family star Sofia Vergara wearing one helluva lethal bra.
Vergara plays Lady Desdemona in this sequel to Rodriguez's blood-soaked 2010 picture Machete. According to EW, the follow-up, which hits theaters in September "revisits the title character, Machete Cortez, (Danny Trejo) a dangerous, hard-luck anti-hero. This time the U.S. government (led by Charlie Sheen in the Oval Office) recruits Machete to battle his way through his native Mexico to topple an arms dealer who wants to rain destruction on the U.S. with a orbital weapon."
It's worth noting that the cast includes Lady Gaga, who appeared on a recent cover of Rolling Stone in a similar Fem-bot-style bra. Wonder who got the idea from whom?

The marketing people at Lionsgate are no dummies. They clearly recognize that celebrity culture has been reduced to "What are you wearing" questions on the red carpet, and are ramping up their marketing efforts for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire with the movie poster equivalent: seven character portrait images that depict Katniss & Compay in fancy freaky fashions before the next round of adolescent-on-adolescent bloodshed begins. more »
Zach Galifianakis looks more like Hagrid than Harry Potter in this new poster for The Hangover Part III, but you've got to love the references to The Deathly Hallows: Part 2. With Ken Jeong in the Valdemort slot, the image seems to bolster reports that this final film in Todd Phillips comedy trilogy will depart from the formula that the first two films followed. more »
A new Iron Man 3 trailer will hit the Internets on March 5. In the meantime, Yahoo! has posted this exclusive new poster, which depicts an army of iron men rising behind a clearly cheesed-off Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) whose armored suit is behaving like an iPhone that was accidentally dropped into a toilet. According to SlashFilm, this reveal may be a reference to the rumored climax of the movie in which Stark summons some multiple metal wingmen to kick some Mandarin pu pu platter, or whoever it is that's causing all the trouble in his life. more »
Get out your micrometers. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel doesn't hit theaters until May2, 2014, but ComingSoon.net has an exclusive peek at the new costume that Andrew Garfield will wear, and, well, unless you're a Spider-man geek (like me), it doesn't look all that much different than the old one.

Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes and Bradley Cooper are at the center of Focus Features' newest poster for its upcoming The Place Beyond the Pines by director Derek Cianfrance (Blue Valentine. The film, which debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last September, revolves around a motorcycle stunt rider who turns to bank robbing in order to provide for his newborn child.

I couldn't have guessed back in 1995 that Richard Linklater's charming Before Sunrise would spark one of the most beloved trilogies of the next few decades, but anticipation has been so high for the latest chapter in Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and Celine's (Julie Delpy) arrested romance that it was only natural we'd be longing for more after 2004's Before Sunset. Shot in secret, the third film in the series, Before Midnight, premiered last night at Sundance to rave reviews and today brings a few new photos that'll have you pining even harder for whenever it's delivered to theaters.

Bananostriches! Fruit cockatiels! The sentient foodstuffs that populate the animated sequel Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2: Revenge of the Leftovers are just delectable... especially if you haven't eaten lunch yet. It's hard to believe it's taken Hollywood this long to borrow these kinds of meme-tastic confections from the internetz. Watermelophants! Wild scallions! Take a peek at the foodie creatures from the September sequel after the jump.

I so wanted to be pleasantly shocked by The Canyons, the Paul Schrader-directed erotic L.A. noir starring wannabe comeback queen (and documented on-set terror, per that glorious NYT profile) Lindsay Lohan. The tongue-in-cheek trailer held some distant promise, although it was notably absent any extended look at the acting by LiLo and co-star/porn hunk James Deen, but now we've got three full unbroken minutes of The Canyons and, well, that comeback train's going to be delayed at the station... if not completely derailed off the tracks in a fiery blaze.
