INTERVIEW: 'Antiviral' Director Brandon Cronenberg Discusses Fame & Father

INTERVIEW: 'Antiviral' Director Brandon Cronenberg Discusses Fame & Father

A word of advice: Don't go to see Brandon Cronenberg's unsettling Antiviral if you're getting over a cold or have recently undergone a medical procedure that involved the withdrawal of blood or a skin biopsy. The 33-year-old filmmaker's debut feature makes such effective use of hypodermic needles and flesh samples that I left the screening room on unsteady feet, feeling like I'd just donated a pint of my own plasma.  But do go see the movie. more »

REVIEW: 'Antiviral' − Brandon Cronenberg's Piercing (And Icky) Look At Celebrity Obsession

REVIEW: 'Antiviral' − Brandon Cronenberg's Piercing (And Icky) Look At Celebrity Obsession

Possibly setting a record for most images of needles piercing human skin in a motion picture, Brandon Cronenberg’s syringe-tastic Antiviral suggests the fledgling filmmaker has some corporeal-horror preoccupations in common with famous dad David.  Set in an icy near-future where celebrities’ diseases are sold like crack vials, this creepy speculative satire tends to hit the same notes in its dissection of seriously unhealthy celebrity obsession, but exerts a queasy fascination regardless. Overlong Canadian production may prove too clinically distanced for gorehounds and too yucky for specialty auds, though the Cronenberg imprimatur is sure to stir theatrical interest. more »

David Cronenberg Talks 'Cosmopolis,' High Frame Rates, And 'Bullshit' Oscars

David Cronenberg Talks 'Cosmopolis,' High Frame Rates, And 'Bullshit' Oscars

2012 brought us two whacked-out limousine-set films from auteurs bearing all the markings of future cult classics. But while Leos Carax's Holy Motors received universal critical praise, David Cronenberg's Robert Pattinson-starring Cosmopolis left critics a little more divided, although how anyone could dislike a film featuring an R-Pattz prostate exam is one of life's great mysteries.

REVIEW: Pattinson Is Quietly Marvelous In Cronenberg's Admirable, Feverish Cosmopolis

REVIEW: Pattinson Is Quietly Marvelous In Cronenberg's Admirable, Feverish Cosmopolis

Easier to admire than to love, David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis is an amplified, feverish vision of the one percent as scarcely human — not because of any innate maliciousness, but because they're so removed from the lives of the masses. They're like children who've already won a video game and now play carelessly, without any need to observe the rules. more »

WATCH: Robert Pattinson On 'Fear' and David Cronenberg On 'Irrelevant' KStew Scandal At NY Cosmopolis Premiere

Twi-hards — and the media —  have certainly been paying more attention to David Cronenberg since the filmmaker cast Robert Pattinson in his latest, Cosmopolis, but they shouldn't expect him to reciprocate. Movieline pal Grace Randolph caught The Fly director and his star on the red carpet at the New York premiere of Cosmopolis, where Cronenberg shrugged off the impact of Pattinson's reported break-up with his Twilight star Kristen Stewart.

Robert Pattinson Surfaces! (In Pics From Upcoming David Cronenberg Film, Cosmopolis)

Judging from the staying power of the Kristen Stewart-Rupert Sanders scandale, Robert Pattinson probably feels like he's on a Dante-esque limo ride through Hollywood hell right this very minute. Which means it's a perfect time to look at photos from his upcoming movie, Cosmopolis!

Joblo.com has posted exclusive pictures from the David Cronenberg-directed adaptation of Don DeLillo's, um, extreme 2003 novel about a billionaire asset manager whose chauffeured ride across Midtown Manhattan to get a haircut turns into a sex-and-death-punctuated journey of self-destruction. more »

Latest Cosmopolis Trailer: Show Robert Pattinson His Car

Latest Cosmopolis Trailer: Show Robert Pattinson His Car

Despite a relatively quiet Cannes reception that offset some early great expectations, my anticipation remains high for Cosmopolis, David Cronenberg's adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel. This new US trailer doesn't hurt, plunking leading man Robert Pattinson into the middle of a global cataclysm that's partly of his making and partly just Welcome to New York - Now Go Crazy.

Pattinson said in Cannes there wasn't much in the way of rehearsal before he began shooting the David Cronenberg-directed film and that he "worried" in his hotel room before it all began. Cannes: Robert Pattinson Holds Court in David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis

Moments before David Cronenberg, Robert Pattinson and the rest of the team from Cosmopolis appeared in a packed press conference room, a Cannes Film Festival spokesman said he had one request: "Please keep the conversation focused on Cosmopolis and not on vampires or bats or the such." "But what about blood-sucking capitalists?" a journalist asked.

New Trailer: Is Cosmopolis the Best Career Move Robert Pattinson Has Ever Made?

Robert Pattinson - Cosmopolis

I mean, being plucked from the Harry Potter supporting wings and the odd pre-fame arthouse pic for eternal teen vampire glory aside, signing on for David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis looks more and more like the best decision Robert Pattinson has ever made. Now that the edgy adaptation of Don DeLillo's 2003 novel is heading for a Cannes debut -- and with the fearlessly cold, cynical swagger RPattz displays in the latest Cosmopolis trailer -- this is shaping up to be the career-changer the erstwhile Edward Cullen has been looking for.

1 Through 19, Let's Rank the Films of David Cronenberg

Happy 69th birthday to David Cronenberg — a great Canadian and not a bad filmmaker, either. And because this has gone so well in the past, let's celebrate by asking: What's Cronenberg's best feature film? His worst? And where do the rest fall in between? The answers are obvious:

Photo Booth: Portraits from the 2011 Toronto Film Fest

Child actors all grown up, Oscar-winning directors popping their collars, stars going silly for the camera -- anything goes when you stick actors and filmmakers in the studio for some good, old-fashioned family-style portraits. See who came to town for the 2011 Toronto Film Festival and gave good face for the camera, uberdramatic, super goofy, and otherwise, in Movieline's TIFF 2011 Photo Booth.
