Baz Luhrmann confirms that he cast newcomer Elizabeth Debicki in his 3D The Great Gatsby in the role of Jordan Baker, the golfer and love interest of Tobey Maguire's Nick Carraway. This helps fill out a cast that includes Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan and Leonardo DiCaprio as the East Egg-cellent Gatsby. "Newcomer," by the way, is an understatement: Debicki is a recent Victorian College of the Arts student who has no IMDB page, Wikipedia entry, or even much in the way of Google results. (UPDATE: An interview!) Luhrmann insists she exhibits a "chemical connectivity to Tobey Maguire." Well, so does Movieline! [Deadline]
Helen Mirren's looking as fierce as -- hmmm -- Joan Didion in the new poster for The Debt, the time-skipping drama about catching Nazi criminals. Those sunglasses! That fixed, contemplative stare! Looks like 2011 will be the year of magical Nazi-thwacking.

By now, you've probably noticed that Midnight in Paris star Owen Wilson is not an obvious supplant for Woody Allen. Unlike Allen's previous stand-ins, Owen Wilson is less of a New York City neurotic and more of a laid back dude with tousled hair and the ability to act opposite Snoop Dogg in a remake of Starsky & Hutch. Which is why Allen never really considered casting the blonde Wilson brother and why, when he finally did, he had to redraft his entire script.

Intriguing news on the indie front: Modern Family Emmy winner Eric Stonestreet -- who plays gay clown school alum Cameron on the ABC sitcom -- is in final talks to co-star in Loft, a thriller about married friends (including Patrick Wilson, James Marsden, and -- also just-cast -- Wentworth Miller) who bring their mistresses to the same loft and eventually discover an unknown woman dead in the space. It's a tale of suspicion and deceit, and the man we know as Fizbo is joining the grisly ranks. Are we excited for Stonestreet's darker turn?
