Damon Lindelof Not Returning To Confuse Audiences On 'Prometheus 2'

Damon Lindelof may be leaving Ridley Scott's Alien universe on a vague, quasi-philosophical note that leaves no one feeling fully satisfied, indicating this week that he won't be penning the sequel to Prometheus. Speaking to Collider, Lindelof talked first about the possible direction the Prometheus franchise-within-a-franchise could take, and then explained why he won't be returning for round two.

Jon Spaihts' Original 'Prometheus' Script: Better Than The Film?

Prometheus - David - secret

What if Prometheus had actually answered questions and had been more of a direct sequel to Ridley Scott's Alien films, instead of a maddeningly ambiguous but thought-provoking spin-off vaguely connected to the Alien universe? Screenwriter Jon Spaihts' original Prometheus script, confirmed to be legit by Spaihts himself, has surfaced online revealing what his facehugger-laden version might have looked like.

WATCH: 'John Dies At The End' Trailer Features 'Prometheus'-esque Black Goo Called 'Soy Sauce'

Don Coscarelli and Ridley Scott don't have a helluva lot in common as filmmakers, but watching the new trailer for the former director's long-gestating movie John Dies at the End put me in mind of Scott's Prometheus. Coscarelli's film, which is based on a David Wong novel, has to do with a drug called "Soy Sauce" that gives its users access to another dimension.  more »

New Details Leak (D'Oh!) On That Black Goo In Prometheus

Ridley Scott knows how to keep the world talking about Prometheus. With the release of the film on Blu-Ray and DVD on Tuesday, much of the conversation about this very engaging movie has centered on how earlier versions of the script were more closely connected to the Alien franchise. (Facehuggers, chestbursters and xenomorphs, oh my!)  But a new infographic that's getting attention on the web puts the spotlight on the weaponized black goo that's stored on the Engineers' space ship.  more »

There Were Supposed To Be Facehuggers! 'Prometheus' Screenwriter Spills Secrets Of Early Scripts

Ridley Scott's latest alien franchise could have looked more like a direct prequel to his last one, according to the original screenwriter for Prometheus Jon Spaihts. In a surprise-laden interview with Empire,  Spaihts says he had written facehuggers and chestbursters into early versions of the storyline before Scott and script doctor Damon Lindelof  decided to move in a more original direction. more »

Here's A Look At Prometheus Alternate CG Character Design That Doesn't Make Any More Sense

Here's A Look At Prometheus Alternate CG Character Design That Doesn't Make Any More Sense

It seems Ridley Scott gave himself options when it came to some of the effects in his Prometheus saga, which the forthcoming DVD/Blu-ray release (and its reportedly sprawling bonus features menu) should handily reveal for hungry fans. Newly unveiled unused effects shots of a pivotal action scene in the film involving a certain crewmember are so drastically different than what's seen in the theatrical version it actually is making my brain hurt more trying to figure out how this alterna-design would have made any sense.

The Last Burning Question About Prometheus

It's way simpler and more straightforward than you might think! "What I don't understand is, why is there not a script editor who is hired before shooting begins, to read the script with notes as to if or not it makes basic narrative sense. This seems like a minor storytelling investment to make. I should not have to read some dude's insane 4500+ word Space Jesus theory (WHICH IS WRONG) about Prometheus after the fact in order to understand Prometheus. Prometheus should make sense on a basic storytelling level." [The Awl]

Prometheus Viral: Good News! Weyland Industries Is Recruiting

Prometheus viral Comic-Con

Those marketing gurus at Fox are going to make sure you keep talking about Ridley Scott's Prometheus all summer, as a new viral video has been unveiled that highlights, testimonial-style, how awesome it is to work for the good folks at Weyland Corp. The way this scientist chick talks about Weyland's envelope-pushing embracing of new technologies makes it sound like the best corporation to work at since Pixar, only with more semi-feeling anthropomorphic robots running around the place making sh*t happen.

Weekend Receipts: Brave Seizes the Weekend; Madagascar 3 Holds Strong

Two animated features sit atop the box office this past weekend. Disney/Pixar's Brave seized the top of the b.o. as expected. The animated feature grossed over $66.7 million Friday through Sunday. That total is above Pixar's previous feature title Cars 2, which opened with $66.1 million in 2011. Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted held strong with $20.2 million.

Prometheus Secrets Revealed: What Did David Say to the Engineer?

Prometheus - David - secret

Of the many, many unexplained puzzles left untangled in Ridley Scott's Prometheus, one deliberately vague scene has had Prometheus-watchers scratching their heads and speculating for weeks — let's call it the "Lost in Translation" question. Receipts Across the Pond: Prometheus Continues to Top While Newcomers Fizzle

Moviegoers in the U.K. continued to send Prometheus, Men in Black 3, and Snow White and the Huntsman into the top three spots of the box office, while '80s hair metal pic Rock of Ages, which landed at number four though its numbers actually suggested a softer opening than its U.S. equivalent, according to figures from The Guardian. Red Lights, which will not open in the U.S. until mid-July and starring Sigourney Weaver, Cillian Murphy and Robert De Niro, performed "landed limply."

The Gilded Age: Ridley Scott's Prometheus and More Frustrating Films from New Hollywood Directors

New Hollywood disappointments - Prometheus - Star Wars - Indiana Jones

I went to see Prometheus over the weekend, and like many of you, I was disappointed (to put it lightly). Although a technical achievement in every way, the narrative and characters left much to be desired. The mystery I wanted solved was not the black goo or the Engineers — it was how the creative team of Ridley Scott, Damon Lindelof, and Jon Spaihts could produce a movie with such rudimentary mistakes. There have been casts of Scream movies with more intelligence than this lineup of characters. The connective tissue between the film’s big set pieces felt as if plucked from a Random Idea Generator program online; even the mythology was mucked up as the film dissolved into a by-the-book sci-fi thriller by the end.

Prometheus Continues UK Reign at the Box Office

Prometheus Continues UK Reign at the Box Office

Prometheus held the box office throne in the United Kingdom last weekend. Madagascar 3 won't have its British theatrical roll out until the fall of all things, so Prometheus had no big newcomers to contend with in the United Kingdom last weekend. The Ridley Scott directed feature took in £3.14M ($4.87M) in its second weekend, a 50 per cent drop. Still, its ten day total is £15.47M ($23.99M), just behind the complete cumulative for Ridley Scott's Robin Hood which totaled £15.65M, according to figures by The Guardian.
