Don't mind me, the perplexed, typing fruit in the corner, but what is this Maxim Hot 100? Just what is it? Who is ranking these nice women? Is 64 that much better than 87? Is Lindsay Lohan really the 38th hottest person alive? I remember her seeming parched and breathless in court. Is that hot? Do boys like dehydration? Why are the highest box-office draws of 2001 so prominently featured? And why is #1 an actress who has not yet been in a single movie, TV show, or Nelly video? Why, gents? Why?

In case The Magnificent Seven and Barenaked Ladies' "One Week" don't contain enough Akira Kurosawa references for you, here comes another remake of the legendary Japanese filmmaker's classic film The Seven Samurai. British director Scott Mann is set to helm the $60 million project developed by scribe John Fusco (The Forbidden Kingdom, Young Guns) for The Weinstein Company. I'm excited! But why not just make the Movieline approved Red Steel adaptation instead? [Variety]
A new season called summer is about to happen, so it's our job to show you Legoland tributes to the big blockbusters. You'll recall that Movieline is slightly over the LEGO phenomenon. Why not Tinker Toys, guys? Or K'Nex? Or Better Blocks? Or Domino Rallies in the shape of Michael Bay? Anyway, check out the single best LEGO rendering of a 2011 summer movie after the jump.

Hugh ain't got no car, fool! Ahem. Deadline reports that Hugh Jackman is the first choice of director Shawn Levy to star in Fantastic Voyage, the James Cameron-produced sci-fi 3-D epic. If he agrees to star, Voyage -- a remake of the cheesy 1966 about scientists who shrink themselves and travel into the body of a sick colleague -- would give Jackman something to do while the whole Wolverine mess gets worked out. Developing... [Deadline]

Attention, dance nerds! If you've been following the Jon M. Chu/Step Up/LXD crew like I have, you've got good reason to be excited for Paramount's upcoming sequel, Step Up 4. First of all, it's filming this summer, which puts it right on track for a 2012 release. And though pop choreographer extraordinaire Wade Robson had to drop out of the director's chair, he's being replaced by Scott Speer, a music video veteran and Chu compatriot who directed "Duet," the most beautiful episode of Chu's online dance series, The LXD. Watch a clip after the jump.

While James Franco, Jason Segel, Seth Rogen and Martin Starr have enjoyed varying degrees of success on the big screen, their former Freaks and Geeks co-star John Francis Daley has not. Until now. Maybe. Daley -- who also co-wrote the possible sleeper comedy Horrible Bosses -- is in talks with Lionsgate about joining the cast of Rapture-Palooza along with Anna Kendrick. They'll star opposite Craig Robinson, who was previously cast in this terribly-titled comedy as the devil. [THR]
At the Film Society of Lincoln Center's Chaplin Award Gala, director Quentin Tarantino was only too happy to discuss Sidney Poitier. "He was my favorite actor," Tarantino said during a sprawling speech honoring Poitier on Monday night. What Tarantino wasn't all that willing to discuss, however, was his just-finished script for Django Unchained.

In spite of the lovely Hollywood itinerary that Movieline laid out yesterday for Prince William and his new bride Catherine, the royal newlyweds will not be visiting Los Angeles in July. Instead, a representative from the Clarence House confirms that the pair will vacation in Canada. Something tells me that this has everything to do with the Game Show Network not taping any new episodes of Catch 21 with Alfonso Ribeiro
this summer. [Hollyscoop.com]
When Austin filmmaker Richard Linklater released Slacker in July of 1991, he helped usher in the independent film movement that would dominate much of the mid-'90s and still resonates today. With Slacker's 20th anniversary fast approaching, the Austin Film Society and The Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas have decided to commemorate that seminal film by commissioning 23 Austin filmmakers to help direct a remake. Awesome! Can this start a trend?
