Me-Yowza! Cats Make Revolting Scenes From 'Hemlock Grove' & 'Alien' Less Scary

Hey, what's with cats and horror?  By the end of the day, everyone in your office will be talking about the eye-popping (literally) werewolf-transformation scene from the Eli Roth-produced Netflix series Hemlock Grove. If you haven't seen it, I've posted it below.  Just make sure you've digested your lunch and that your boss isn't watching. It's that graphic.   more »

1 Through 19: Let's Rank the Films of Ridley Scott

1 Through 19: Let's Rank the Films of Ridley Scott

Because we're a little more than two weeks away from the opening of Prometheus, and because the Film Society of Lincoln Center opens its complete, week-long retrospective of his films this Friday in New York, because it's a quiet morning otherwise and because it's gone so well with other directors in the past, let's rank the 19 feature films of Ridley Scott. The order is obvious:

Prometheus Spoilers: The Latest TV Spot Has Them, And How

Prometheus spoilers - TV spot

Technically the plot of Prometheus is still fairly unknown from the trailers and clips Fox has unleashed, at least insofar as what it is that befalls the intrepid space crew that ventures into unknown horrors in Ridley Scott's June sci-fi action thriller. But the latest TV spot seems to reveal an awful lot of said horrors — flashes of frights and things and scenes that seem to give good reason for that R rating — so watch at your own risk, because these 30 seconds are at once both awesome and a tad too revealing.

The Host Teaser: Stephenie Meyer's Freaky-Eyed Aliens Are Coming For Your Mind, Body, and Soul

The Host (2013)

It's brief, but the newly debuted teaser trailer for the sci-fi romance The Host is here to tantalize you with images of freaky-eyed pod people and star Saoirse Ronan's fierce, unearthly qualities. Adapted from author Stephenie Meyer's non-Twilight novel about a human and an alien symbiote who share the same body, The Host is headed to theaters in 2013 under director Andrew Niccol (In Time), and while this oughta give Host readers a twinge of anticipation, non-fans are likely scratching their heads wondering what Ronan's eyeballs and the vaguely Benetton-like reel of faces has to do with anything.

The 9 Most Intriguing, Still Perplexing New Clues as to What the Hell’s Going on in Prometheus

Prometheus WonderCon 2012

Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus made the biggest impression on the geek faithful Saturday at WonderCon, where glimpses into the film’s set-up and ensuing space shenanigans were revealed in a new two-and-a-half minute trailer for the sci-fi action film. The trailer (not to be confused with the more truncated one-minute teaser that leaked yesterday) offered more hints at spoilers and narrative threads for fans to try to piece together, not to mention some very interesting new imagery – but how much do Prometheus-watchers really want to know? [Spoiler alert, obviously.]

New One-Minute Prometheus IMAX Trailer Lands, Is Spectacular, ZOMG

Prometheus

A new minute-or-so-long trailer for Prometheus has landed, and while it's unclear how much of this footage will be included in Saturday's planned 2:33 minute trailer debut (which will follow 20th Century Fox's WonderCon presentation), Ridley Scott's June 8 sci-fi pic just keeps the hits coming. Sparse on dialogue, big on images, the trailer teases Prometheus's IMAX release and impresses on the startling strength of its visuals alone.

Prometheus Faux 2023 TED Talk Hints at Ties to Alien Saga

Prometheus - Guy Pearce

Ridley Scott may or may not be spilling details on how Prometheus factors into the Alien franchise, but a new clip from the film sheds a few shards of light on the connection, and cleverly so: Watch Guy Pearce as Peter Weyland (CEO of Weyland Corporation, to become the future Weyland-Yutani Corp.) give a riveting TED Talk, circa 2023, promising a bright new future to the tech set.

In Honor of Lisbeth Salander, 9 Other Movie Heroines Not to F*** With

9 Movie Heroines Not to Screw With

If Rooney Mara's fearless turn as Stieg Larsson's goth-punk hacker heroine Lisbeth Salander teaches us anything, it's that you should never, ever cross a woman with fire in her heart and vengeance on her mind. But the titular Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is just the latest in a long history of utterly human movie heroines who remind us how ferocious and unrelenting a woman wronged can be. Celebrate the fictional ladies who have helped teach society not to fuck with the so-called "fairer" sex, and let their righteous fury be a lesson to us all during this warm and fuzzy holiday season.

There is a Leaked Prometheus Trailer, and It Is Kind Of Awesome

Earlier today 20th Century Fox unveiled a shiny new look at Michael Fassbender in Ridley Scott's 2012 Alien related event pic Prometheus (via Empire), all blond and space-suited. Exciting! As if that wasn't enough to get your juices flowing, an unofficial version of the first trailer for the sci-fi thriller oozed onto the interwebs mere hours ago, and although it's shaky-cammed with fuzzy audio and is even labeled "Leaked"... it's kind of adrenaline-pumpingly awesome.

What Can We Glean from the New Prometheus Poster -- Besides Its Lame Tagline?

What Can We Glean from the New Prometheus Poster -- Besides Its Lame Tagline?

Ridley Scott has settled on a tagline for his pseudo-prequel to Alien, the star-studded June 2013 release Prometheus: "The Search For Our Beginning Could Lead To Our End." Does that sound a little too much like the Breaking Dawn: Part I tag "Forever is Only the Beginning" to anyone? Both are Hallmarkian takes on mortality, which is a shame considering Prometheus should be one of the most original thrillers of next year. Its new poster, along with our musings thereon, follow.

Why Yes, Sigourney Weaver Would Like to Do Another Aliens Movie

Why Yes, Sigourney Weaver Would Like to Do Another Aliens Movie

Here at Movieline HQ we clearly worship at the altar of Ellen Ripley. Who doesn't? Partly because Sigourney Weaver's sci-fi heroine rocked our socks in (most of) the Alien films -- hey, Alien Resurrection wasn't her fault -- and also thanks to the fact that no woman has come close to achieving her level of badass in the movies since, another Ripley-centric Aliens sequel sounds like a plum idea. And Weaver herself agrees.
