Breaking Dawn First Images: Bella and Edward Welcome Renesmee, Lautner Insists Imprinting Not Creepy

Breaking Dawn Part 2 PicturesOh hey, remember Twilight? That book that was a movie that spawned a gazillion-dollar franchise before The Hunger Games and Fifty Shades of Grey made you momentarily forget about sparkly vampires? Well, it's back, and the latest EW cover serves to remind us all that Breaking Dawn - Part 2 — the franchise ender, due in November — is just on the horizon. Forthwith, your first look at Vampire Bella, Daddy Edward, and, uh, Uncle Jacob with Breaking Dawn's preternaturally mature baby Renesmee.

EW teases their June 22 issue with family portraits of Bella (Kristen Stewart), Edward (Robert Pattinson), Jacob (Taylor Lautner), and little Renesmee, a new character introduced in Breaking Dawn - Part 2. Per Stephenie Meyer's final Twilight novel, Renesmee is the half-human, half-vampire baby whose birth pretty much kills Bella at the end of Breaking Dawn - Part 1, necessitating Bella's transformation into a vampire and kicking off the final chapter of zany events in the series.

Among the stranger details of Breaking Dawn - Part 2: Renesmee is a hybrid creature baby who grows at an accelerated rate, hence why she looks more like Siri Cruise than a normal infant.

(Forget Twilight - let's get to the untold story of Matt Leblanc, amirite?)

Eleven-year-old newcomer Mackenzie Foy nabbed the role of Renesmee, and from the looks of EW's preview she gets considerable face time with not only her vampire parents (and Jacob — more on that in a bit) but with the various assembled international vampires that gather to rally around the Cullen clan as the evil Volturi vamps head to America to wipe them out.

EW's Twilight issue hits stands June 15, along with new images from the film. Take a look at the Cullen brood...

...but let's talk about Jacob and Renesmee and the love that dare not speak its name: Imprinting.

Breaking Dawn Part 2 - Jacob and Renesmee

Scans of the EW cover story have already leaked, revealing bits of the cast and director interviews discussing the set, casting Foy ("Even our hands look similar," marvels Stewart), etc. But let's jump right over to the elephant in the room, shall we? Lautner addresses his Breaking Dawn challenge — making Jacob "imprint" on his soulmate, baby Renesmee, without making it feel, you know, creepy (via Nessie-Mackenzie.com):

…talking to Stephenie Meyer and diving back into the book got him more comfortable with the notion of being in love with a child. “Everyone likes to tease me about it,” he says. “Everyone thinks it’s so funny, and I laugh along with them, but it’s important for me to keep in my mind that it’s as simple as a lifelong bond. It’s not nearly as creepy as everybody likes to joke.”

That “everybody” includes Pattinson, needless to say. “Oh, I can’t wait till he has to do live TV,” Pattinson says of Lautner with a gleeful cackle. “Did you ask him if his taste in women has changed? The first scene I saw them together, I literally could not stop laughing. I wouldn’t have been able to do it.”

Well, good luck to Lautner. I don't care if Stewart had to wear uncomfortable contact lenses, he's officially got the hardest job of anyone on Twilight. Look for more in EW's June 22 issue.

hmm why do I find these to be the most interesting Twilight pics.... the story is so crazy!!!! Stewart looking pretty cool in these pics I'll admit.

  • annamorphos says:

Ugh. I'm guessing they've changed the story AGAIN. In the books, the oldest Nessie appears is about two or three years old. They've made her look like a 12 year old. -_- I'm hoping these aren't scenes from the movie.

    • KiKi says:

So they have to stick to the book word for word, scene for scene? Good luck trying to find a 2-3 year old to act out these scenes. Let me know when your movie come out. I would really love to see it. By the way, what's the name of your book so I can buy it and compare your movie to it. LOL.

    • Gina says:

Thankfully! It's so much easier to use an older child than a baby in those scenes. It's a very good change, though imprinting is waaaay creepy and gross.

    • Snigdha Rao says:

Exactly...!! She's a baby in the books - 3 months old!! Here shez way too big!!

    • Just Saying says:

No, in the book she has only lived to be about three months. But it even says she is the size of a 7-9 year old. So no, they are not really changing anthing with the age.

      • Dillon says:

Actually at 3 months old she looks about a year to a year and a half old... look at her portrait in the twilight saga: the official illustrated guide.

  • SD says:

I'll admit I never read the books but I can't get excited for this movie. It seemed that the last one wrapped up the main arcs of the previous films so what is left? Bella got her wish and became a vamp.

Is this just about the Volturi? As much as I love Michael Sheen and Dakota Fanning they were pretty weak as villains. If someone could fill me in I would appreciate it.

And Renesmee - stupidest name ever. Just makes me think of Peter Pan every time I read it.

    • Jen Yamato says:

Renesmee is an unfortunate name, agreed. IMO Breaking Dawn Pt 2 covers more of what the point is of Bella's story to begin with - you actually see her strength emerge, thus seeing why it is that she's so passive in the beginning of the series. At least, it justifies it. If the films had ended with Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 you would see her become a vampire but not what that means for her, really.

      • SD says:

OK, thank you. From a viewer perspective (not a reader) I had viewed her goal as simply becoming a vampire not what it meant for her. I never thought of it in those terms. I saw her as someone who was unfulfilled in their current life and seeking fulfillment in a different one. Part one concluded that whilst also bringing a conclusion to Jacob's story (albeit in a somewhat creepy way) so I shall be interested in what part 2 does.

        • Gina says:

The truth is, Bella becomes a vampire so she can be with her tru wub Edward forever and ever. The books repeatedly have her saying/thinking that her life is pointless without him in it. Sicko message to send to readers, of course.

        • Megan says:

Imprinting if you think about isn't that creepy because he doesn't think of her in a sexual way. He's more of a brother to her in the movies. Once she grows up then maybe but for now those thoughts are just as disgusting to him as they are to you all.

    • Gina says:

Do yourself a favor and never read any of the books unless you like mental pain. The book series is horrific. Bella is a weak, passive, whiny character, and Edward is a bizarre sicko stalker. A huge chunk of Breaking Dawn (the book) is about the Volturi wanting to get rid of Renesmee (who is named after Bella's mom, Renee, and Edward's "mom," Esme). In fact, the second half of the book is mostly this godawful slog about a bunch of vampires gathering to prepare to possibly battle the Volturi. The confrontation itself is laughably anti-climactic. I think the movie will do a much better job of making it exciting, though. It can hardly do a worse one.

Bella actually remains a pretty static, uninteresting character throughout the books. She really is not very strong.

    • I agree with you here... When part one ended, the whole movie series really could have finished up neatly.
Plus I was sort of peeved at the fact that in Stephanie's Vampire universe turning in a vampire magically makes your body beautiful. Other Vampire mythologies state are that the state your body is in when you are turned, that is the way that you will look forever after.
That's the secret of beauty people, not snake venom. Vampire Venom.

      • Dillon says:

Actually, in a lot of vampire mythology, vampires ARE extraordinarily beautiful... Vampire venom doesnt "Magically" make people beautiful. When the venom washes over the cells of the body, and the transformative process begins, and makes those cells hard and refractive, so a persons face and body will seem perfect, because they are firm and create an elligant effect with the light... also, the venom affects the bone structure in a persons face, making it more beautiful.

    • TS says:

Umm, yes this movie is mainly about the Volturi coming. Apparently, 27 minutes of the movie is about the scenes where the Volturi come and talk it out. Personally, I think its an overkill but I guess from the length in the book, its necessary. I do not believe how they are going to make this movie as interesting as the other ones.

  • Reese says:

I love everything about this this movie is going to be so great

  • bel says:

I think people are forgetting that the movies are based off or inspired by the books...let's be real, other movies that are inspired by books are not following word for word what the book says. prime example is the hunger games. just saying

    • Megan says:

      Amen

    • robin says:

actually i read the hunger games...... the movie was very close to the book and it almost took away from it as a movie.... i have read the twilight books.... the movies would all be pretty boring if they went word for word with it, im anticipating a big fight scene with the vulturi, they always put fights in when none happened in the book.

  • bloodythirsty says:

Yal are just stupid fucktards. This is an amazing book and book series if you don't like em then why the Fuck are you even on here? Yea..stupid Bitches.

  • PsychoPutty says:

Wow BloodThirsty, you sure put us all in our place... over the internet... anonymously. Once your parents come down to the basement to bring you a sandwich I'm sure they'll be beaming with pride.

  • Natalie says:

It's fantasy, like Snow White and the Huntsman, The Avengers, Batman, Spiderman, so it doesn't have to always make sense...

Looking forward to some vamp sex. And little Renesmee is gorgeous and looks like she could be the offspring of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

  • Paris says:

Reading these comments is soooo funny! Look guys... everyone is entitled to their own opinion. If some love the books thats fine. If some hate them thats fine too. If some love the movies thats ok. If some hate the movies, thats ok too. If some aren't particularly fussed either way.... good for you!
Just chill... there is no need to insult people... it is only a book/movie franchise! 🙂

  • Just Saying says:

I think this is going to be the best movie by far out of all 5. Might even be just as good or better than the book! The new perview is amazing! Can't wait for November to get here.

  • ET3 says:

JACOB IMPRINTING ON RENESMEE IS NOT REALLY CREEPY. WHEN HE IMPRINTS ON HER HE MEANS TO BE HER PROTECTER LIKE A RELATIVE. NOT AS A LOVER.

  • WildBoar says:

I don't think it'll be the best of the series, but I'm sure it will be AMAZING just like the rest :]
