LOL: Miley Cyrus Bomb Makes $440 Per Screen

So Lionsgate quietly — like, very quietly — released its long-shelved Miley Cyrus "comedy" LOL into 105 theaters over the weekend. Director Lisa Azuelos's English-language remake of her own French hit from 2008 suffered for it, too, grossing a total of just $46,500 — less overall than The Avengers made per screen.

Sarah Jessica Parker Replacing Demi Moore as Gloria Steinem

If you were put off by the thought of Demi Moore playing feminist icon Gloria Steinem in the currently-filming porn biopic Lovelace, you have the whip-its to thank for this casting change: Sarah Jessica Parker will now step into Steinem's shoes opposite Amanda Seyfried's titular Linda Lovelace as Moore recovers and, as a press release delicately puts it, "seek[s] treatment for exhaustion." Just a few more day-playing A-listers and Lovelace will officially turn into New Year's Eve. [Deadline]

Demi Moore as Gloria Steinem, the Latest Distracting Casting Move for Lovelace

Demi Moore, Gloria Steinem (Getty Images)

I can kind of see a resemblance between Demi Moore and feminist activist/journalist Gloria Steinem, whom the former Mrs. Kutcher has been tapped to play in Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman's Lovelace. But at this point the porn biopic -- the one starring Amanda Seyfried as Deep Throat star Linda Lovelace, to feature a cameo by James Franco as Hugh Hefner -- feels like it's turning into a bizarrely distracting hit parade-sideshow of stars/names playing real life Lovelace acquaintances. (Further evidence, just announced over the wires: Eric Roberts as... lie detector test administrator Nat Laurendi! For reals.)

Demi Moore Is Divorcing Ashton Kutcher

"It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton," Demi Moore said in a statement to the Associated Press today. "As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life." The announcement arrives after numerous reports of Kutcher's infidelity around the time of their sixth wedding anniversary in September. [AP]

Director Sam Levinson on Another Happy Day, Learning from Dad, and Ellen Barkin's 'F*cking Genius' Twitter Account

< > celebration by Gotham Magazine with cover star Ellen Barkin of the new film Another Happy Day at The VAULT at Pfaff's on November 2, 2011 in New York City.

In his debut feature Another Happy Day, director Sam Levinson (yep, Barry's son) worked with a cast including actors who've been legends since before he was born in 1985: Ellen Barkin, Ellen Burstyn, George Kennedy, Demi Moore, Thomas Haden Church, and newcomer Ezra Miller play stubborn, dysfunctional family members who bicker, spar, and essentially fail to communicate at a tumultuous wedding. Levinson garnered the 2011 Sundance Film Festival Waldo Salt screenwriting award for penning Another Happy Day, and -- like Barkin on Twitter -- is proving himself to be a fearsome, perceptive, and honest voice. We phoned Levinson to discuss his father's influence, why he screened Carnal Knowledge for his cast and crew, and Ellen Barkin's amazing candor.

Josh Hartnett, Gackt, and More Navigate the Hyper-Stylized Samurai Wild West in Fantasy Mash-Up Bunraku

Josh Hartnett, Gackt, and More Navigate the Hyper-Stylized Samurai Wild West in Fantasy Mash-Up Bunraku

A hyper-stylized, genre-mashing fantasy actioner involving cowboys, samurai, and an axe-wielding Ron Perlman with dreadlocks isn't exactly what you might have imagined in a film with a title like Bunraku, named for an obscure, 300-year-old form of Japanese puppet theater rarely performed these days. But that's the film director Guy Moshe made -- starring Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson (Indecent Proposal reunion!), and Kevin McKidd as a dapper, Fred Astaire-like cold-blooded killer, no less -- and you've got to give him credit for his ballsy vision.
