Extending their profitable partnership with Tyler Perry ($520 million and counting in domestic box office), the folks at Lionsgate have revealed that at least two more Madea films are in the works following next month's Madea's Big Happy Family. I know what you're thinking, folks: Only two more Madea flicks? Whatever will we do with ourselves after 2013, the year when it might all end according to the rate at which Perry's been churning out the Madea-anchored hits? Some filmmakers might feel comfortable compromising quality on a film that they know will dominate at the box office. (See: any film that Adam Sandler has ever produced.) Not James Cameron! For Avatar 2, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has already plunged to the deepest part of the world's oceans to secure underwater footage! He ingratiated himself with Brazilian tribesmen to get a feel for the indigenous community! And now, Cameron is developing even new technology so that Avatar 2 doesn't feel like a mind-blowing, in-your-face 3-D movie, but a mind-blowing, in-your-face reality.
Not that you're surprised by this news -- considering Terry Rossio was commissioned to write a script for the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean in January -- but Jerry Bruckheimer says you can expect more Captain Jack in the future. Stand-alone Captain Jack. "The audience told us what they loved about it is that it was fresh, it was new, it was a whole new story," Jerry Bruckheimer told USA Today at CinemaCon. Let's face it: There's probably little chance that a remake of Robocop will be as good as Paul Verhoeven's original. As far as action movies go, his hilarious, violent and subversive take on mechanized crime fighting still stands as an apex of the genre, and even if the remake turns out to be acceptable, there's no way it will capture the manic energy of the original. Well... almost no way.
