Look out, Evil Hoodied Puppy-Drowning Girl (and your camera-wielding accomplice)! No less an influential man-hunting force than Michael Bay is coming after you for justice -- not in that underwhelming golf cart of his, either, but with a much more intimidating weapon: His wallet.

Belated congratulations to Harvey Weinstein and Georgina Chapman, the power couple who also, as of Sunday, became Hollywood's latest set of power parents. The film and fashion moguls had a baby girl named India Pearl -- Harvey's fourth and Chapman's first. This calls for a celebration!

"Don't let anyone tell you what it is," reads the tagline hooked to Catfish's current marketing campaign. Oh, really? What if I tell you that next week in L.A., for one night only, the controversial Sundance darling (and September theatrical release) is... free? Believe it! Finally, consensus. Read on for details.

They did it, everyone! Or, they did something. As promised, a motley crew of Hollywood Blvd superheroes stormed City Hall in Los Angeles yesterday, including Superman, Darth Vader, the Hulk, and the White Power Ranger (still don't get that one). Will their efforts keep future Batmen out of jail for setting up illegal tourist traps? Who knows, but at least our costumed crusaders got some press, and that may be the greatest victory of all.

Sketchy and altogether bad news coming out of Silver Spring, Md., this afternoon, where the AP reports a gunman who may or may not have possession of a bomb is holding at least one hostage in a siege at Discovery Networks. What was originally reported as a possible bomb scenario (to which three technicians responded) has since escalated into a situation with police on hand and unable to reach the alleged gunman -- who is described as having "concerns" with Discovery Channel. Not much more for now.... Developing... [AP via NYT] UPDATE 5:15 pm EDT: Police have shot the gunman and freed three hostages... developing...

"We ourselves are the 'piranhas,' ogling after this commodified flesh," writes Jacques de Molay, a Marxist professor of neurosemiotics who went long -- but not quite Mark Canton long -- on the economic metaphors of the T&A gorepalooza Piranha 3D. "Here one begins to appreciate the sophistication of [director Alexandre] Aja's vision, in comparison to the similarly 3D-mad James Cameron." Ha! Take that, Jim! You did not invent piscine dialectics. [Libertas]
On its face, Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan would seem to have something for everybody: lesbian kisses (for the masses), art house appeal (for the film snobs), and a supporting part for Winona Ryder (for Winona Ryder's agent). So how is the film being received after its Venice Film Festival debut?

It's the Wednesday before Labor Day, which means we're all in this long late-summer slog together. Bless Fox's heart, they've given us a fairly decent means of whiling away at least a little of that time -- first by setting the megaviolent spectacle Machete for release this Friday, and then by supplementing it with random Lindsay Lohan gossip and vaguely racist posters for film bloggers to play with.

So I'm shuffling down the platform last night in the subway sauna at 86th and Lexington, and there's this big Virginity Hit billboard at the far south end: "Still A Virgin? For Help, Call 888-742-4335." Cute, I thought to myself, and maybe a little coarse, but Sony knows its market. I might have been the only person to stop and glance at it at all -- more out of professional curiosity than any prurient interest. And then, overnight, comes this headline on our sister site Deadline: "Sony Pic Billboards Offer 'Virgin Helpline' And Cause Nationwide Controversy." Er, really?
