Titanic Actress Gloria Stuart Dies at 100

Actress Gloria Stuart died on Sunday in Los Angeles at the age of 100. Stuart starred in over 40 movies between 1930 and 1939 and was the oldest person to ever receive an Oscar nomination when she portrayed "Old Rose" in James Cameron's Titanic. [WaPo]

Greg Giraldo Hospitalized After OD

A day after performing at an addiction-awareness event called the New York Recovery Rally, Comedy Central regular and Last Coming Standing judge Greg Giraldo wound up hospitalized from a drug overdose. Yeah. Giraldo reportedly consumed a near-fatal amount of prescription during a hotel-room party in New Jersey; "It was a like a zoo here," said one witness. Doctors say it was not a suicide attempt. Giraldo's currently listed in serious but stable condition. [NYP via TV Squad]

How Much Would You Pay to Watch New Movies at Home?

After an FCC ruling allowing the activation of technology that blocks duplication of video-on-demand titles, studios have been quietly planning to launch a "premium" VOD option of first run movies for $24.99. Predictably, movie theaters are not too happy. Studios are currently planning to wait 45 days after theatrical release to make these premium on-demand titles available. With a few exceptions, this is the time frame in which most theatrical releases make the bulk of their box-office gross. Still, now might be a good time for theaters to start actually enforcing the no cell phone rule. [New York Times]
