In 2011, M. Night Shymalan has swept the Razzie Awards (with five wins for The Last Airbender including Worst Picture, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay) and announced that he will be directing Will and Jaden Smith in an untitled sci-fi film for Sony (if that ever happens). It's hard to gauge which career development could be more demoralizing for the Oscar-nominated writer/director, but his fans are certain of one thing: it's time for an M. Night intervention.

Confirming a report from earlier this month, director Adam Shankman Tweeted today that Russell Brand is officially on board for Rock of Ages -- and that he'll play Lonny, the narrator of the Sunset Strip-set rock saga, which is also set to star Tom Cruise as the douchebag rocker Stacee Jaxx, Julianne Hough, Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, and Diego González Boneta.

Let me tell you, as perhaps the only person who (at least until this Friday) has seen all four Scream movies in one day, it creates a very unique perspective on the universe. Could I kill a fellow human? It sure seems a lot more plausible! Regardless, even though a proper live blog of Scream 4 wasn't possible, I kept a spoiler-free -- except one, I'm not the killer, Louis -- running diary of my experience viewing Scream 4.

As anyone who followed awards season back in 2009 knows, Mickey Rourke is nothing if not outspoken. And honest. Brutally honest. Just take his comments at the premiere of Scream 4 on Tuesday night, when Rourke was asked about the upcoming -- and soon going -- new film Passion Play.

If Gwyneth Paltrow's acting, singing, and website proprietor careers don't work out, she can always be Martha Stewart? Apparently. "Every food celebrity appeals to us as a surrogate family member," said journalist Allen Salkin to the New York Post. "Martha is your crafty aunt, and so in the family of food celebrities, I could see Gwyneth as your slightly kooky but sweet sister." OK, then! Paltrow's new cookbook, My Father's Daughter, is out in stores now. [NYP]
The best part of the Scream franchise? That beyond being standard horror movies, the films are also pretty fun murder mysteries! The first Scream owes more to Agatha Christie than Tobe Hooper, and that's probably what has kept fans coming back for the future installments. (Either that, or the massive amounts of Karo-infused fake blood and jump scares.) In honor of this, Movieline has assigned odds to the cast of Scream 4 in an attempt to figure out just which individual (or individuals -- SFX: thunderclap) is responsible for the latest round of carnage. Click ahead, but beware: unintentional spoilers may abound!

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the publication of Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell's novel about Civil War-era Atlanta and the source of one of Hollywood most legendary cinematic enterprises. And because nothing says "party" like an epic tale of 19th-century privilege, slavery, violence, privation, defeat and heartbreak, the "Windy" subculture is getting together to celebrate.

As Michael Shannon hilariously recalled last weekend at the RiverRun Film Festival in Winston-Salem, NC, his meeting with Zack Snyder to discuss playing General Zod in Superman: Man of Steel was rife with cloak and dagger. "He's seriously sitting there, and he's telling me -- he's like, 'You can't read the script. So I'm just going to tell you what happens,'" Shannon said. "And he spent like a half-hour telling me every scene." Perhaps Snyder didn't think Shannon was as trustworthy as Diane Lane.

"Years ago Trump sat behind me at a private screening of Steven Spielberg's slavery epic Amistad. He arrived with a tall model (now his wife) and once the lights dimmed they began making out in earnest (like high school). After about 15 minutes the pair got up and walked out. Classy." Ooof. This is gonna kill him in the Iowa caucuses. [Looker]

If casting news for Dark Knight Rises keeps going like this until its release in 2012, we'll probably be reading about who's in talks to play "Girl at Bar #3" pretty soon. But for now, the rumors are still focused on supporting characters, and now we've got three more to add to the crowded roster: Daniel Sunjata, Diego Klattenhoff and Burn Gorman. What's that? Those names don't mean anything to you? No problem! Meet each one of them along with the character they're supposed to play after the jump.

Big news for people who like to cry! Gus Van Sant's safer-looking version of Harold and Maude, Restless, will open the Cannes Film Festival sidebar "Un Certain Regard." And in case you're looking for something way longer at the festival, it sounds like Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides will also play. Rumor has it that its inclusion will lower the number of other festival selections because of its nine-hour running time. [Deadline]
With this rich-girl-summer-fun pop music on a loop in the background, it's tough to figure out whether Dermot Mulroney's directorial debut Love, Wedding, Marriage debut has even the minimum amount of charm, wit or heart required to justify ripping off Nancy Meyers so hard. Or is that even justifiable? Regardless, I can definitely confirm that this film adds another bullet point to Kellan Lutz's ever-growing shirtless-role resumé. But more importantly, check out this amazing convertible scene!

In news that might have caused my fifth grade self to break out in an awkward dance of joy, there is actual movement on a long-attempted adaptation of Anne McCaffrey's The Dragonriders of Pern series. X-Men writer David Hayter will reportedly adapt Dragonflight, the first novel in McCaffrey's celebrated book series set on the planet of Pern, where generations of humans form telepathic links with fire-breathing dragons to defend themselves from a deadly enemy known as Thread.
