Fifty Shades of Grey: Bret Easton Ellis Dream Casts Ryan Gosling, Lena Dunham

Fifty Shades Of Grey Movie CastingAmerican Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis made clear via Twitter who he'd pick as potential leads in Fifty Shades of Grey, the best-selling erotic drama by E. L. James that he claims he's hoping to adapt for the big screen. If it ever comes to pass, Ryan Gosling and Girls creator/actress Lena Dunham are clear favorites — or so he insists. What would rumored potential director Angelina Jolie say?

Reporting on Ellis' Tweets — which should be taken with a sizable grain of salt, obviously — Orange UK noted that the Less Than Zero author speculated that Scarlett Johansson or Kristen Stewart would be the likely victors to play the novel's Ana opposite a theoretical Gosling as Christian Grey. "I would love it if we lived in a world where [Girls actress] Lena Dunham could be Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey but I don't think we do," Ellis wrote. "Hope E.L. James doesn't think I'm being a prankster. I really want to adapt her novels for the screen. Christian Grey is a writer's dream…" The novel's Christian Grey is a wealthy man tormented by demons and a need for control who begins a BDSM affair with college grad, Ana.

Ellis has additional thoughts on a director too, should the Jolie thing not work out — or is just an elaborate rumor — or both: "I think David Cronenberg is a great idea for directing Fifty Shades of Grey and we worked together on American Psycho in its initial phase."

He gave a shout out to his supporters and a nudge to the powers that, well.. "BEE": "Thanks to everyone supporting BEE adapting Fifty Shades of Grey: the response has been huge and amazing. Hope E.L. James feels the same way."

Lena Dunham is super ugly though.

  • Brooke says:

How about Bradley Cooper, Josh Duhamel or Chris Hemsworth as Christian Grey. Gosling is good looking but maybe not "every head turning " good looking. Looking forward to the movie whomever it may be!!

  • Jared says:

Ian Somerhalder is and should be the only choice to bring Christian Grey to life. And not just because of his looks, but seriously because he could play that character to perfection.

And I hadn't thought of her, but after hearing it, for some reason I could really see Kristen Stewart in the role of Ana.

Has this Brett Ellis even read the book? If he thinks that Ryan. Gosling and Lena Dunham would be perfect for the lead parts, he is crazy and I'm wondering if he has even read the same book! Ryan gosling, while cute is not intense looking enough. Definitely Ian sommerwalder or Chris hemsworth for Christian. I haven't figured out Ana yet, but she needs to be young and classically beautiful in a way that is wholesome and she doesn't realize how beautiful she is. Just me two cents. E.L... Call me so we can discuss....hahahaha.....

Aah the fun of casting couch

My choices for Ana - Saorise Ronan or Aussie actress Sophie Lowe.

Christian - Christian Bale would have been perfect but not young enough. In my opinion, Christian is too young at 27 in the book to be totally credible.

Tyler Hoechlin or Oliver Jackson-Cohen look the part for me.

Who to play Mrs Robinson? Sharon Stone would be fun - or perhaps more fun playing his mother?

  • nettie says:

I hope universal doesn't hire him because his ideas for the film sucks!!!!!
Ian Somerhalder should play Christian Grey and Lily Collins for Anastasia Steele....
I mean seriously this man is crazy thinking about Kristen Stewart????????????

  • msmlo says:

Peter Porte from Young and the Restless... Perfection!!!! For Christian, check him out!

  • Laura says:

Ryan is no Mr. Grey at all. The need a fantastic looking actor for this part. I think the movie will flop with Ryan. Maybe Alex O'Laughlin or Josh Duhamel. Or maybe a nobody!!!!

  • Laura says:

Josh morrow would be great too.

  • MB says:

IAN SOMERHALDER Christian Grey for sure!!!!! He has the jaw line and the look!!!! I agree with whomever said that above Lilly Collins is good for Ana too. Kristen Stewart is a BAD fit for the role of Ana. This isn't a young adult film it needs more passion and she won't cut it.

  • MB says:

Peter Porte would be good tooo!!! I hope they pick the right people alot of people will have high expectations for the lead roles

  • SD says:

Oh, Ian Somerhalder as Christian for sure. I mean look at him.. he's got those amazing mysterious eyes (perfect color too!). Perfect jawline. Perfect (messy) hair. Amazing smile. Body - everything. It's Christian to the T! I also agree that Lilly Collins would make a good Ana. She has the body and innocence for it. Lena Dunham just wouldn't cut it as Ana. Maybe as Kate, though. As for Kristen Stewart..? This book/movie has too much passion in it. She has no emotion. That's a disaster waiting to happen. As for Ryan Gosling - He is very good looking, but definitely isn't the mysterious kind. I REALLY hope they follow by the book when auditioning for their cast..

    • BMD says:

I am in somewhat agreement with you...Ian has the Christian look, not sure about his acting chops...Lily Collins could be a good Ana, I haven't seen her act but she definitely has the physical attributes of Ana. Lena Dunham as Kate, big NO. This is where I differ. Kate is suppose to be a stunner. I do not consider no one ugly, but Lena is not the first person I think of when it comes to Kate the stunner. Kristen Stewart seems too moody to me for this role and I am not sure if she is ready or capable of pulling off the sex scenes. Ryan is not the head turner that Christian must be. I was leaning towards Josh Henderson (with contacts of course) as Christian...he gives me mercurial edge and he is yummy as Ana would say. I think for Elliott, Jai Courtney fits the phsyical build.Elena maybe Kim Catrell or Diane Lane...someone with maturity yet beauty.

  • tomyumhardy says:

AARON JOHNSON and EMILY BROWNING!!! Enough Said!

    • bennysgirl25 says:

OMG that would totally work! As long as AJ has the same hair he's sporting for Anna Karenina and if he bulked up a little more. Plus, we already know EB is okay with nudity (sleeping beauty). This would be awesome!

  • Justin_X says:

ummm why hasn't anyone said Matt Bomer for Christian Grey?!?! He's PERFECT for the part. Just look at all the pics of him in suits!! He so fits the part! I definitely agree that Ryan Gosling is good looking but not like E.L describes in the book. I think Ana should either be played by an unknown actress or maybe Emmy Rossum.

  • Ariana says:

PETER PORTE Would be the BEST choice for Christian Grey...CHK HIM OUT!!!!

  • Bonnie C says:

I agree. Matt Bomer has the perfect look for Christian. He is a head-turner. Don't know about his acting skills though.

  • Cheryl says:

Robert Pattinson is the correct age and has grey eyes and is HOT. Isn't that who E.L. James had in mind?

  • Jackie says:

Matt Bomer is the ideal Mr.Grey. His eyes just melt the room. He is badass but has that school boy smile. I of course feel I should play Ana lol but since I know that won't happen I feel someone like Zooey Deschanel who has the blue eyes and the innocence along with the awkwardness. Elliot sounds like a role Chris Pine would be wonderful with, he seems to be able to share the big screen with other sexy men and still hold his own. I just feel like the books were so nicely done and if the movie isn't on point it will crash. I never pictured any of these big named stars as these characters not to mention Stwart will only make everyone think of twilight. Let's get real and actually put thought into this and not have some shitty cast.

    • Justin_X says:

I totally agree with Chris Pine being Elliot! Didn't think of that until you just said it. I also agree that NO TWILIGHT people in this movie!!! This is a different trilogy and it's meant for an older crowd rather than teens.

    • prudence says:

thank u i have been worried that no one is thinking of matt. whenever i read the book, i only imagine matt

  • Heather says:

I'm voting for Alex Skarsgard as Christian!!! Could care less who plays Ana (LOL), but Ashley Greene would be good. How bout Angelina as "Mrs. Robinson" Elena?

  • Megan says:

I would rather get shot in various places on my body than have Kristen Stewart ruin the fifty shades trilogy for me

  • Megan says:

But I do picture rob pattinson as the perfect Christian

  • laura says:

Jessica stroup for ana and wentworth miller or matt bomber for Christian

  • laura says:

Jessica stroup and Wentworth Miller or Matt Bomber

  • Casting Director says:

Ellis clearly hasn't read the book and read a summary. Dunham is the opposite is Ana...why mock the book...? Gosling is not Grey...Somerhalder was made for this! I love his work and excited to see some serious talent behind all of this but please read the book! There will be so many disappointed fans of this is messed up...Let me cast it...!

  • lilith says:

wentworth miller .... has two beautiful eyes, a sly smile (when he wants) fairytale look attractive (sorry for the others) and does not show all his years
