Producer Avi Arad on Avengers, Ghost in the Shell vs. Akira, and the Mass Effect Movie

Marvel Studios founder (and former toy inventor) Avi Arad has built an empire out of the superhero business, having produced everything from the Blade films to the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Hulk, Iron Man, and Spider-Man films and the upcoming Andrew Garfield-starring reboot, not to mention the 2012 superhero superfilm The Avengers. Needless to say, there was a ton to discuss and not nearly enough time when Movieline caught up with Arad at Comic-Con right before Sony's Hall H panel for The Amazing Spider-Man.

[UPDATE] Report: Spider-Man Star Arrested at Comic-Con

Speaking of The Lizard making a splash at Comic-Con, The Wrap reports that Amazing Spider-Man star Rhys Ifans was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery in San Diego. Ifans, who portrays Dr. Curt Conners a/k/a The Lizard, was on hand among cast and filmmakers yesterday to debut footage in Hall H; apparently, the incident occurred when Ifans "shov[ed] a female security guard" and "insulted" the U.S. prior to the panel.

Spider-Man Producer Laura Ziskin Passes Away at 61

Film producer and studio executive Laura Ziskin passed away Sunday after a public battle with cancer, having established a distinguished career as one of Hollywood's most prominent female producers. Her notable credits include Pretty Woman (1990), Hero (1992), To Die For (1995), As Good as It Gets (1997), as well as all three of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films and the upcoming reboot The Amazing Spider-Man. Ziskin was 61.

Spoiler Alert: Stan Lee Reveals His Cameo in The Amazing Spider-Man

Speaking on a panel at Dallas Comic-Con over the weekend, Stan Lee was asked about the famous cameos he's come to be known for in adaptations of his work. Downplaying the fact that Matthew Vaughn never called him to cameo in X-Men: First Class, Lee told fans to look forward to his turn in another blockbuster this summer: "Wait 'til you see me in Captain America!" And then, he proceeded to spoil his cameo in Marc Webb's just-wrapped The Amazing Spider-Man.
