Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn (The Pusher Trilogy, Bronson, Valhalla Rising) muscles his way into Hollywood this September with the charging crime thriller Drive, but he's also in the midst of remaking the 1976 sci-fi pic Logan's Run with his Drive star, Ryan Gosling, set in the lead. Movieline caught up with Refn at the L.A. Film Fest premiere of Drive for a quick update on the project.

Take a deep breath, folks, and prepare for the nearly three minutes of tense exchanges and brutal violence (five words: boiling oil in the face) that comprise the first trailer for Rod Lurie's Straw Dogs remake. The setting has been moved to the Deep South, but the character relationships and abject horrors look to be faithfully evocative of Sam Peckinpah's original film, which taught audiences why you should never push a mild-mannered husband to the brink of desperation.

DreamWorks has released the first trailer for their remake of the '80s horror comedy classic Fright Night, which either qualifies as heresy or amazeballs, depending on which side of the remake debate you're on. After the jump, watch smart-ass teenager Anton Yelchin do battle with his dreamy vampire neighbor, Colin Farrell, for moviegoers who were but a distant twinkle in their parents' eyes when the first movie came out.

Here's your first look at images from Rod Lurie's Straw Dogs remake, which moves the setting of Sam Peckinpah's 1971 film from England to America, and sets up L.A. couple James Marsden and Kate Bosworth for a really unpleasant vacay in the Deep South. The EW scans also include your first look at True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård in the role of Charlie, a character at the center of the original film's most controversial scenes.

Nobody wants to call it a "remake," but if it walks like the original source material and quacks like the original source material... Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), who handily re-imagined John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel Let the Right One In into the 2010 film Let Me In, is writing and will direct a script based on Ray Nelson's short story 8 O'Clock in the Morning, which was previously adapted into John Carpenter's 1988 horror comedy They Live. Reeves' version, it's noted, will not feature alien-spotting sunglasses and probably won't star "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. See, totally different! [Deadline]
Speaking with Movie Hole, screenwriter Josh Stolberg (Piranha 3D, Good Luck Chuck) spilled the news that he and Bobby Florsheim have written Paramount's remake of To Catch a Thief, the 1955 Hitchcock romantic thriller starring Cary Grant as a cat burglar and Grace Kelly as the woman he falls for. The update, Stolberg enthuses, will be "more modern" and filled with gadgets -- and is being produced by Neal Moritz, the man behind such modern, gadget-filled flicks as xXx and the Fast and the Furious franchise.

Most exciting of all? He's got the rights to the original Suspiria score by prog-rock band Goblin -- and he intends to use it.
