The Bonnie Hunt Show Finally Canceled, A Nation Mourns

BonnieHuntShow225.jpg

Order up a deep dish pizza and draw yourself a bath. You'll need some comfort after this news: PerezHilton is reporting that after two long seasons, The Bonnie Hunt Show has been canceled. The Chicago comedienne's afternoon talk show premiered in 2008 with Robin Williams as her first guest. Since then, Bonnie Hunt was nominated for three Daytime Emmys including Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling.

The show, which tapes in Culver City, will finish out its second season before shutting down production, according to PerezHilton's sources. The Bonnie Hunt Show features a two-story, Dean Martin-tribute set featuring photos of her dog and a fireman's pole. According to Wikipedia, Bonnie has never used the fireman's pole -- hopefully viewers can look forward to that inaugural ride during her teary finale.

For those unfamiliar with the format of the Bonnie Hunt show, each episode starts with a monologue and features segments in which the Jerry Maguire co-star answers viewer mail ("Mail From You Guys"), improvises with the audience and her producer Don Lake ("Dr. Know It All"), and asks children about topics that predate them ("Young People Don't Know Nothin"). Bonnie frequently welcomes her mother, Alice, on the show via video chat and is particularly interested in hearing about her guest's mothers, especially if they are nurses.

Let's take a moment on this gloomy, Monday afternoon to toast Bonnie and her mom with this famous "Ask Alice" segment. All of the excitement of talking your mom through a video chat, except it's someone else's mom, and it's on daytime TV! (And Emmy voters, please consider her impeccable hairstyling!)

I'm going to miss Bonnie. I love everything she has done. I never watch Fox during the day but made a point of watching at 9:00 every morning or taping it to watch later. I will not be watching fox now that she is going off the air. Her show was funny and entertaining to where I would be laughing out loud. I think they should bring her show to Chicago now that Oprah's leaving she could take over. You not only watch for Bonnie but also her crew they are just as funny and they all make the show great. I'll probably get more done now that the tv will be off.

Daytime TV is such a wasteland; and without the Bonnie Hunt Show, I won't be watching at all. Year by year I have seen a decline in programming--enough already with the screaming judges, and screaming women, and screaming, self-righteous blowhards. Perhaps if the network execs would THINK for a change, they would find a better time-slot and/or actually promote this show.
Bonnie, you and your entire crew are a class act. We will truly miss your talent and what was once the bright spot in our day.

  • Brian says:

    DON'T CANCEL BONNIE!
This is the best new talk show to come around in ages!
I am so sick of that menopausal hag Judge Judy..cancel her tired old ass instead!
Or cancel Ellen..she really sucks and her ratings are bad!or Stupid Oprah and Dr. Phil!
Bonnie Hunt is great NBC WAKE UP YOU IDIOTS!

  • Diane says:

Figures! Another funny decent show being taken off the air, probably to make room for more trash:-(

  • Joy McGregor says:

I enjoy the Bonnie Hunt show and will be sorry to see her go. She has a great sense of humor and she is quick on the draw! Why not keep her on?

  • Sherri says:

I vote to keep the Bonnie Hunt show on the air. She is a bright spot in an otherwise dreary day!

  • Jerry Andrews says:

You have to be kidding. Bonnie Hunt is fantastic. My wife and I watch her everyday and will miss her terribly. So she runs against Regis, why doesn't he retire already. Give Bonnie another time slot, how about Oprahs replacement. If Warner Bros is done with Bonnie we are done with Warner Bros. We love you and your Mom Bonnie and you will be missed.

I LOVE BONNIE HUNT, WHY NOT TAKE OFF THE VIEW WITH THEIR FOWL MOUTHS

  • Christine K. says:

I am just shocked that a wonderful and clean cut show, The Bonnie Hunt show, is being cancelled? WHY???????????????????????
Bonnie Hunt is a breath of fresh air, funny, and has honest love and a caring spirit for her guest and family, as well as animals.
They say that violence and sex brings in the viewers,????????????? have we really come to this, that a family program would be cancelled, just to bring in trash that spoils the minds of children as well as adults.
What can be done to convince NBC to keep this program a float?
And furthermore, what is their reason to cancel?
    There is no good reason!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm very sad,............ and Bonnie if you read this, please know: YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PERSON, AND YOU'LL REALLY BE MISSED. YOUR SINCERITY REALLY SHINES THROUGH, PLEASE KEEP YOUR CHIN UP........AND DON'T GET DISCOURAGED.........SOMEONE WITH SENSE, WILL PICK YOU UP, AND BRING YOU BACK TO THE SMALL SCREEN, AND YOU WILL CONTINUE TO BRING JOY TO ALL,
Best wishes, from a devouted fan

  • Kitty Buan says:

The naughty monkey that decided to cancel The Bonnie Hunt Show should be given a banana and showed to the door!

  • Marilyn Switzer says:

I love the Bonnie Hunt Show. It's the only show I can laugh out load.
    Thanks Bonnie.

  • Janelle Bracken says:

My family and I love "The Bonnie Hunt Show", and were dismayed to learn of its cancellation. Perhaps she should come home to Chicago and do her show! A lot of us Midwesterners relate to Bonnie, and appreciate the same things she talks about on the show. I think guests from both coasts would fly in to be on the show, too, even if it was in Chicago. Guests on Bonnie seem different with her than on other shows. They seem pleased to be there, for one thing, and engaged and not bored--even THEY tell her how much they love her. Bonnie, you are clever, witty, and your sincerity comes through every day that you make us laugh out loud. You will be missed, but hopefully, someone with some SENSE will see the value of a family-oriented show that a LOT of people record and watch together at the end of a stressful day at work. We vote for a new network for new episodes of "Bonnie", since NBC doesn't realize what a treasure they have.

  • Sas says:

Well, they've done it again. The Bonnie Hunt Show is a wonderful show each day. A show the entire family could sit in on and not have horror confronting them.
I hope Bonnie lands a new show, on another network and has a better outcome.
Bonnie is clever - she shall another chance, I am sure.
NBC needs to rethink there business reasoning.

  • Pamela Sibley says:

Are the masses so jaded that they truly think being nice and respectful is "kissing ass?" Women like Bonnie Hunt and Tina Fey are so refreshing to watch. They are funny, smart, articulate, talented, self-deprecating, and thoroughly entertaining. Please reconsider keeping this show on the air so that those of us who need something other than shrill, sharp-tongued, smug harpies have something to look forward to for one hour a day.

  • Peggy says:

Hey....Oprah is leaving Chicago for California soon, Why not bring Bonnie back to her roots? I've lived in the Chicago area all my 60 years, and it's a great city....beautiful too. I love the segments with Alice. She's so darn cute! I wish I could still talk to my mom (or my dad for that matter!) but, they have left this earth. In this era of stupid reality shows (so many are truly obnoxious), Bonnie is refreshing. I think people over 50 need a show like hers. As usual, the networks are only thinking of how much money they will make on the show. Soon we'll have to watch an inane replacement show. I wonder what NBC will put in its place? I guess I'll be watching more cable shows or movies now.

  • jennifer e trela says:

DON'T LET HER GO!!!!I too am a health care worker and look forward to coming home at the end of the day and tuning into Bonnie!! Love all the segments with her Mom and the the good feeling slot at the end.....you have no idea how much we all need that!!
We are all so lonely for the days's of yore....safe to play outside,a good sense of home and family TV!!!!!DON'T LET HER GO!!!!!
    CAT SCAN JENNY

  • Jeanine says:

Here's another quality, uplifting tv show gone. NBC shouldn't let this one go - they should advertise it so that people can find it. I stumbled upon it once and got hooked as my friends and family did as well after I spread the news to them. Give this wholesome and funs how a chance network suits!

  • joyce gray says:

So sorry to hear, thought show was refreshing against all the other junk that is on TV. I love her sense of humor and her interview style. She is kind and tries to see the good in everyone. I think they are making a big mistake.

  • Madelyn says:

My mom and I gave up court tv to watch her. We wanted to laugh insted of crying for an hour. My mom had me wake her up just to watch her. SHAME ON YOU

  • kathleen Lambert says:

Never, in all my 50 years of television have I ever enjoyed a show soooo much. Bonnie is a wonderful, sincere, funny, kind, classy, host and I find myself smiling throughout the whole show. I too shared this show with my Mom. So thrilled to be going to a taping this Friday, again never wanted to do that with any other show. Very sad about the cancelation. 🙁

  • stephanie says:

I can't imagine anyone not liking The Bonnie Hunt Show. I'm amazed at the negative remarks, but everyone is entitled to his/her opinion of course.
I love her show and especially Bonnie herself. She's smart, warm, witty and quick - sometimes so quick that I almost miss her best cracks or throwaway lines. Bonnie's so talented, and I'm sure she'll do well, but I'll miss this show terribly.

  • ANGIE GRAHAM says:

Sorry to see a show as funny, innocent and entertaining go off the air. We would record the show and watch it every night. Bonnie's show was a throw back to the days when times were more innocent, pure entertainment that did not need to be censored. I LOVE the BONNIE HUNT SHOW and hope to see it reappear on another network. The crew seemed as though they were not working but playing with friends. I wish Bonnie and her Crew the best of luck in whatever they do from here on. Thank you for bringing joy back to television, no matter how short lived it was.

  • cindy says:

I cannot believe the best talk show and host, Bonnie Hunt, is canceled. What is wrong with the execs.? You are not intuned to what the viewers really want....we want a Christian Hostess with a heart, clean sense of humor, family values, compassionate, down to earth, loving and kind...that is what Bonnie Hunt is made of. I looked forward to her show everyday, she makes me smile and warms my heart with her acts of kindness...the pet adoption segments show how compassionate she is for all God's creations. I make it a point to call my husband to come and watch her last heart tugging segment, usually a video that just warms my heart. What can I do to save her show? Won't you please change your minds and keep Bonnie on the air...I am praying she and her crew will continue to bring us the best show on TV...The Bonnie Hunt Show. Thank you, God Bless You Bonnie and Alice.

  • Wendy says:

I totally agree. Leave something good on t.v. for those of us that are tired of the trash!! I love the Bonnie Hunt Show!

  • Lannie says:

I am very upset to hear that The Bonnie Hunt Show will be taken off the air in May. Bonnie and her staff are wonderful, I look forward to her show daily and am so disappointed to hear this news. What can be done to help keep her on the air?
She is a very genuine loving sweet lady who is so generous and REAL. This is such a shame, there are lots of other shows that could be taken off daytime TV that would never be missed. This is not one of them.
I hope people will continue to write about how much they love this show and that Bonnie knows just how much she has affected people in such a positive way, as well her staff and her family.
Thank you Bonnie, for a wonderful hour of entertainment. With my best wishes to you, your staff and family. I feel like I will be losing a family member again, it is very sad to lose a sister, a friend or a Mother I Know Cause I Have....
