The Bonnie Hunt Show Finally Canceled, A Nation Mourns

Order up a deep dish pizza and draw yourself a bath. You'll need some comfort after this news: PerezHilton is reporting that after two long seasons, The Bonnie Hunt Show has been canceled. The Chicago comedienne's afternoon talk show premiered in 2008 with Robin Williams as her first guest. Since then, Bonnie Hunt was nominated for three Daytime Emmys including Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling.

The show, which tapes in Culver City, will finish out its second season before shutting down production, according to PerezHilton's sources. The Bonnie Hunt Show features a two-story, Dean Martin-tribute set featuring photos of her dog and a fireman's pole. According to Wikipedia, Bonnie has never used the fireman's pole -- hopefully viewers can look forward to that inaugural ride during her teary finale.

For those unfamiliar with the format of the Bonnie Hunt show, each episode starts with a monologue and features segments in which the Jerry Maguire co-star answers viewer mail ("Mail From You Guys"), improvises with the audience and her producer Don Lake ("Dr. Know It All"), and asks children about topics that predate them ("Young People Don't Know Nothin"). Bonnie frequently welcomes her mother, Alice, on the show via video chat and is particularly interested in hearing about her guest's mothers, especially if they are nurses.

Let's take a moment on this gloomy, Monday afternoon to toast Bonnie and her mom with this famous "Ask Alice" segment. All of the excitement of talking your mom through a video chat, except it's someone else's mom, and it's on daytime TV! (And Emmy voters, please consider her impeccable hairstyling!)

  • camille cantarella says:

Please leave Bonnie Hunt on the air. She's quality and pure entertainment.I'm sick of court nonsense featuring the dregs of the earth, the many times repeated quiz shows, the pornographic soaps and mediocre variety shows. bonnie is great,no smut but pleasingly adult. NBC is making a terrible mistake,Ihope some other network picks Bonnie up and makes you regret your action.

    Re: Bonnie Hunt Show
We're going to miss this show. Really wonder if the people who make these decisions really are in touch with their audiences. Guess all we can do is refuse to buy the sponsors products now. Way to go network gurus...see ya!

  • Robert says:

My wife and I are finding so many others as disappointed as we are with this cancellation. We hadn't realized so many others were watching the show until they announced this cancellation. Another brilliant NBC decision ! Could these "executives" be further OUT of touch with their audiences ?

  • Jack says:

Guess Bonnie didn't appeal to the gay mob suits or evil is hip nutjob generation. Funny thing is, 40 something baby boomers are a demographic US majority. And so cancellation based on ageism wasn't necessary since TV sucks so bad that kids are all out surfing the web or playing video games anyhow.

  • Chris Conway says:

I keep hoping that this was a very very bad joke/dream and when I wake up I'll still find the Bonnie Hunt show on TV for a long long time.
What are those idiot TV execs thinking. This is the best show on TV in ages........much better than Oprah. (I guess if you got money you can buy anyone)

  • Debbie Harris says:

I'm so disappointed about the Bonnie Hunt Show beinging cancelled. I only just discovered it while flipping channels a few months ago. But I LOVE her! I think she's funny, refreshing, witty, compasionate! I love the Ask Alice segments. I think her stories about her childhood are hilarious. I think she's very down to earth and relatable. It looks like she treats her entire crew as family. What I like most about the show - 0ther than the fact that she makes me laugh - Is that it is "positive" . I LOVE this show!

  • anna naegele says:

The one show that is down to earth the idiots upstairs have to cancel. Cancel martha stewart or the view. Bonnie makes people laugh. With everything going on in todays world people need to laugh more!! Maybe more programming like bonnie's would make more people laugh more.

  • Jody says:

I work in the foster care program for my county - I have used several of Bonnie's stories to get a laugh out of people, or to make a point. I've told the story that Bonnie told of when she received a bad grade in school and her father's reaction several times. (Upon showing her father her F, she asked if he was upset. He said, "If you tried your hardest, I'm not upset. If you didn't and received this grade, I'm disappointed, you tell me how I feel.") What a great learning experience she shared with us. Also, what will happen to those animals that will now not have a chance to be adopted? What a terrible decision on the part of all the suits. Wish they would reconsider.
