How's this for under-the-radar weekend news: Warner Bros. is moving ahead with its live-action/animation hybrid LEGO movie, which should hit screens in 2014. According to Variety, the pic will be comprised of 80 percent animation, to be handled by Animal Logic, the Aussie-based vfx house behind Happy Feet and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, which could mean gorgeously rendered and lifelike... LEGO blocks come to life?

After their Matrix trilogy grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide, Lana (formerly Larry) and Andy Wachowski took some time to explore avenues off the sci-fi blockbuster grid -- by writing a dystopian thriller (V for Vendetta), unsuccessfully adapting Japanese anime for the screen (Speed Racer) and directing A-listers like Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant and Halle Berry in the ambitious, generations-spanning adaptation of David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas. At long last though, it seems that the sibling filmmakers are returning to their wheelhouse for a mysterious new project called Jupiter Ascending.

Fans of Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch, steel yourself: The guy who last put Denzel Washington on top of a runaway train (and made bank at the box office doing so) wants to remake the groundbreaking 1969 Western. Deadline reports that director Tony Scott -- whose most recent film was last year's Unstoppable -- is negotiating to reboot the classic Peckinpah film. The summer of 2013 just got a little more exciting: Warner Bros. has announced that they'll release Guillermo del Toro's sci-fi action pic Pacific Rim on July 12, 2013. The alien invasion film is set to star Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, and Charlie Day, and begins filming this November. Del Toro has described the Travis Beacham-penned project as his biggest film to date, so expect a summer monsterpalooza, del Toro-style. Warner Bros. also moved up the release date of Steven Soderbergh's Contagion to Sept. 9. [Deadline]
With a whopping $489.1 million global box office take under its belt, surely Warner Bros. could afford to settle its legal dispute with the tattoo artist who copyrighted Mike Tyson's tribal face design that Ed Helms sports in The Hangover Part II. Not even lackluster reviews can stop Todd Phillips' highly anticipated R-rated The Hangover Part II. Wednesday's midnight shows brought in a whopping $10.4M, Warner Bros. has the Bangkok-set sequel planned for the biggest opening ever for an R-rated film, and it's going into a five-day holiday weekend. Pundits estimate a $100M or higher opening take, and you know what that means: get ready for a Hangover Part III. [Deadline]
Forget disgruntled theater owners: the tattoo artist who inked Mike Tyson's face back in 2003 is suing Warner Bros. over The Hangover Part II, claiming copyright infringement of his famous work. The tribal face tattoo, which Ed Helms spoofs in the sequel in a clear nod to Tyson, not only shows up in the film, it's prominently featured in the film's marketing campaign -- and that could mean big trouble for Warner Bros.

Variety reports that Warner Bros.'s last-minute Green Lantern VFX efforts have gone over budget to the tune of $9 million as the studio races to finish -- and, one hopes, finish in high quality -- the final touches on the CG-heavy June 17 release. Coincidentally, today WB released new images of Green Lantern Corps. members Kilowog and Sinestro, which look pretty darn impressive. Friday at WonderCon, Blake Lively revealed how she nabbed the role of Carol Ferris in Green Lantern: Warner Bros. execs saw her striking turn as a drug-addicted hot mess in The Town and invited her to read for the part. Coincidentally, Amy Adams landed her Lois Lane gig on the heels of her performance in The Fighter, so let's call it a trend -- the Massachusetts Moxie Leading Lady Rule, in which throwing down on the streets of the Bay State proves that you're more than capable of hanging with supermen.
