The MMA sequel Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown has a new trailer, and it's got everything: Topless young men getting sweaty in the gym, winsome love interests who may or may not be strippers, at least one slo-mo jump-punch, and plenty of Michael Jai White, who co-stars as an aging MMA veteran-slash-mentor and makes his directorial debut. "Why exactly are you in this thing?" asks a comely young lady. "I need this," answers Beefy Never Back Down 2 Ingénue #4. Don't we know it.

Over five million people have watched last week's premiere episode of Kevin Tancharoen's Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series -- an impressively-shot introduction to baddie Kano (Darren Shahlavi) and heroes Sonya Blade (Jeri Ryan) and Jax (Michael Jai White). The second episode picks up right after the explosive cliffhanger of the debut with even more eye-catching camera work, striking action, and general badassery on display, as the show dives right into the origins of Jax and Kano's infamous bionic accoutrements.

The Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series starring Michael Jai White as Jax and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade has finally premiered, sustaining director Kevin Tancharoen's tacit promise to do justice to the beloved '90s video game where Paul W.S. Anderson's 1995 feature film version decidedly did not. After the jump, watch the first 12-minute episode and decide if it delivers enough action, Mortal Kombat references, and fatalities to satisfy.

Sadly, the world will have to wait a while longer to see the big-screen return of Mortal Kombat, the totally '90s martial arts fantasy video game -- film franchise that had us all screaming "Finish him!" and dancing to that horrifically infectious, Immortals-penned techno theme ("Mooooortal Kombat!") in our misspent youths. But something good did come of that impressive proof of concept short that made the rounds last summer: Warner Bros. ordered a 10-episode Web series based on Kevin Tancharoen's slick short Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.
