When Channing Tatum takes Alex Pettyfer under his wing to teach him the ins and outs of male stripper life in Steven Soderbergh's Magic Mike, the young bucks will have another ex-stripper on hand with extensive shirtless experience: Matthew McConaughey. Best casting move in a while, Hollywood -- doubly so for you, Matty McC. Shall we study the history books to guess whether or not McConaughey will strip down himself as Dallas, "a former exotic dancer who now owns and operates Xquisite, the club where 'Magic Mike' works?" [Variety]
Over at Mental Floss, a question was posed yesterday that's plagued fans of the Back to the Future films for years: "Is it ever explained why Marty hangs out with Doc Brown?" Before long, an official-ish answer surfaced, courtesy of BTTF co-writer Bob Gale. The answer won't shatter your world, but at least it puts those suggestions of inappropriate older man-teenage boy relations to bed.

No one wants their funeral celebrated on an inconsequential Tuesday afternoon, but Taylor Momsen's acting career will have to settle for an overheated, late-summer burial. The Gossip Girl alumna claims she's done acting and wants to focus solely on her music career. To be fair, Pretty Reckless is kind of a cool band. But to be fairer to the Movieline populace, this means we have to mourn her body of work. Join us as we recount a bunch of movies you probably didn't even know Ms. Momsen was in.

Looks like the Terminator has taken his dogged search for the mother of the future savior of mankind to the Twitterverse, where he's going through every Sarah on Twitter, one by one. (That is, when he's not telling the T-1000 to suck it in binary.) There's just one problem: The social media-savvy T-800 is looking for "Sarah Conner," not Sarah Connor. Oops! Proof he'll become obsolete soon enough? [@111001001101010]
Hunter S. Thompson's novel The Rum Diary, written in 1959 but not published until 1998 -- the year Johnny Depp channeled Thompson in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas -- tells the tale of Paul Kemp, an American journalist who finds himself living and drinking among expats in 1950s Puerto Rico. There he meets Chenault, the ravishing girlfriend of another man, with whom he becomes obsessed. After the jump see Depp and Amber Heard getting cozy as Kemp and Chenault in a still from the October release, adapted by writer-director Bruce Robinson (Withnail & I, Jennifer 8).

It looks like The King's Speech won't be the only Weinstein Company film headed to Broadway in the near future. The New York Post reports that Harvey and Bob Weinstein are planning to "mine the Miramax and Weinstein Co. vaults for material for eight to 10 projects." Already on deck is Finding Neverland, with Chocolat and perhaps Cinema Paradiso on the way. Maybe this could be a way for the notoriously sequel-averse Harvey Weinstein to continue Rounders? "Pay That Man His Money" could be a show-stopper! [NYP]
Yes, I already toasted Madonna's birthday yesterday in that hilarious 'Verbal Vogueing' clip you watched over and over again (RIGHT?), but it's time to make The Mother of Reinvention's 53rd anniversaire official with the Movieline treatment. Now, as a functioning human being, I understand that Madonna isn't the best actress of our generation, but I contend that she's had some under-heralded moments in film. Do you have a favorite underrated Madonna moment on the big screen?

I'm sworn to secrecy regarding my recent previewing of Machine Gun Preacher, director Marc Forster's forthcoming biopic about Sam Childers, a Pennsylvania junkie ex-con-turned-born-again-orphanage-building-gunslinging savior of Sudan. But there's nothing that I or anybody else can say about the film that isn't summed up in its new one-sheet featuring star and co-producer Gerard Butler, which is like whoaaa.

The four-actor cast of Roman Polanski's Carnage (Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet, and Christoph Waltz) is an Oscar-friendly bunch: Together they've acquired 12 nominations in their collective careers, four wins, and enough actorly cred to warrant accolades for the rest of their lives. In new stills from Carnage -- which is based on Yasmina Reza's Tony award winning play -- the esteemed quartet grimaces and smirks like their director just made an off-color joke about Valley of the Dolls. Who's facial expressions deserve the Oscar most?

It's hard to believe that G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation has become a legitimate summer tentpole from the time of its announcement to its first day of shooting, but that's sorta what happened. Lots of that has to do with J.J. Abrams's inability to get the ball rolling on Star Trek 2 in time for Paramount's planned June 29, 2012 release date -- resulting in Joe landing there -- but with a cast featuring Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki and possibly Bruce Willis, it has become hard to ignore G.I. Joe 2's potential for box office breakout next summer. Step one on that road is filming, which direct Jon M. Chu has commenced, and Johnson has commemorated on Twitter. Click through for a look.

Following his appearance at the Academy Awards back in February, Billy Crystal said that "got a little itchy" to host the ceremonies again. "We'll see what happens," the eight-time Oscars MC said during a 20th anniversary screening of City Slickers in Los Angeles over the weekend. "I can't promise anything." Ain't that the truth! Reached for comment by Deadline about Crystal's possible Oscars return, producer Brett Ratner seemed rather unmoved. "I didn't see what Billy said. I'm really focused on finishing my film Tower Heist right now. I was told by the Academy that I don't have to make a decision until mid-September." Good job getting that plug in, Brett! [Deadline]
