Innocence Of Muslims: Anti-Muslim Film Sparks Outrage, Fatal Attack In Libya
A trailer for a little-known anti-Muslim film that went viral on YouTube sparked outrage and violent attacks overnight at the U.S. Embassy in Libya that left over a dozen wounded and four Americans dead, including U.S. ambassador to Libya J. Christopher Stevens. In a press conference today President Obama condemned the acts and promised justice to those responsible, said to be Muslim protesters angry over insults against the Prophet Muhammad made in a film called Innocence of Muslims.
Innocence of Muslims, purportedly made for $5 million in California by an Israeli-American real estate developer named Sam Bacile, satirizes the life of Muhammad, according to Reuters, "as a fool, a philanderer and a religious fake." The film, which features amateurish performances and cheap-looking sets, depicts the Prophet as a fraud and also includes scenes in which he engages in sexual acts.
A 14-minute trailer for the (fairly terrible-looking) film, filled with green-screen CG and painfully wooden performances, hit YouTube in July and was subsequently picked up by news media in Egypt and the Arabic-speaking world. Associations with Koran-burning Florida pastor Terry Jones didn't help; he endorses the film and screened the trailer Tuesday.
Following the attacks in Libya and at the U.S. Consulate in Cairo, Egypt, Bacile went into hiding. Speaking by phone with the Associated Press, he was remorseful about the fatal attacks but stood behind his film as a political statement, saying "Islam is a cancer, period."
In a bizarre twist, The Atlantic spoke with a "militant Christian activist" who consulted on the film who claims that "Sam Bacile" is a pseudonym, calling into question Bacile's actual identity and background.
Meanwhile, President Obama is increasing diplomatic security details at U.S. embassies around the world.

It's a terrible thing to see when religions attack religions. You're not doing yourself any favors by insulting other people's beliefs. Especially when you insult their god/gods, goddesses, prophets, messiahs, angels, and saints. Violence causes violence and problems are never solved. You cannot convert someone into your beliefs by mocking them or cursing them or attacking them. Just from the trailer, it looks like a fair depiction of the prophet. A little corny, but this was basically the prophet in a nutshell. With all due respect to the prophet (disclaimer so that I don't get beheaded) he was probably better looking.
In fact if you look at the fringes of where Islam is spreading into Africa you cannot miss the same ideals that are held by those same Muslims as were held by the prophet himself. That infidels are subject to Islam, that a man can have whatever woman he desires. It's no different now than then - right? When Islam becomes not the minority, but the majority power, all these things that are in this trailer come to be when it comes to their relations with infidels.

I'm a Christian, and people all over the world, including fellow American citizens, insult my beliefs on a daily basis, but I don't want to kill anyone, or see anyone else harm them. In America, we believe in free speech! I want to speak freely, and therefore, I need to allow others to do the same. I also want to worship God my way, and I believe everyone should have the right to do the same! When belief in a religion causes people to want to kill others to protect the reputation of their prophet, something is very wrong. Somehow, you think that speaking against someone is terrible, but murdering someone is just fine! Well, I think you have it all wrong! If Mohammed is SO WONDERFUL, why are you so EVIL??? The movie is based on facts. It is intended to reveal the truth about Islam. There are many moderate Muslims who are unaware of these facts about Mohammad. I have no problems with any one holding own faith and traditions, but when their faith lead to disasters like 9/11 and terrible actions all the world we need to be informed of that faith and treat it as a threat. There is no other religion in our present world preaches violence, blood and hatred but Islam. If Jesus got married to 80 + women, had sex with multitude of women (many against their will), had homosexual sex, sex with under aged, looted others property after murdering them in the name of Allah then please, be my guest , produce a movie and post it any where you want. If the movie mentioned above is based on facts, then I would entourage our Muslims brothers, why don't you just forget Mohammad and join the Shiites Islamic denomination (based in Iran) cause they follow a friend of Mohammad who was a little bet more decent of a person. Although i'm against the violence done in Libya and killing of innocent people who didn't had any participation in the movie. But hurting any religion's feeling is not a part of freedom or democracy.
