Erin Andrews on Yet Another Outrageous Dancing with the Stars Dismissal: 'I'm Getting Blamed!'

Erin Andrews started our weekly Dancing with the Stars recap interview with the following greeting: "Um. Hello?!" It was appropriate: We've officially reached the finale of the most insane DWTS season ever. Join us as we chat with the ESPN heroine about last night's elimination, her feelings about the final three, and the flood of (unjustified) hate-Tweets she's received about the outcome.

Well, Erin, craziness happened again the other night.

It is crazy. If you had asked me last night when it was down to Brandy and Bristol, I never would've guessed this is what we'd be talking about today.

Let's start at the beginning with the easier subjects: Jennifer Grey earned two perfect scores. Do you almost feel bad for her and how great she's doing because it's possible the rug will be pulled out from her during the finale?

No, because that's what happened with Nicole. At this point in our season last year she was just knocking out everything. So, no. Obviously she's got the scores and she has the votes by her fans to keep her in.

Plus, they have to do a triumphant "(I've Had the) Time of My Life" dance next week, right?

I think they're going to have to. You've got to be kidding me! If we have four routines that they have to do, they've got to throw in something. Give us a little bit of "(I've Had the) Time of My Life." Are you kidding me?!

Um, after this season, we deserve to see that routine.

We deserve it! [Laughs.]

How did you feel about your man Kyle Massey's work this week?

I thought he was phenomenal. I loved it. The "bionic booty" was one of the greatest lines in the world. If I ever got that title, I think I'd be happy with my life. He was wonderful. I think what I enjoy even more about him, and the judges said it perfectly, there's just no drama with him. His packages are always hysterical. It's so cute about him -- when they're waiting for scores or he's talking with Brooke, he just has this precious smile on his face and a funny laugh. I was talking to Niecy Nash last night after the show, and I was telling her the other reason I think I like him because he's so loud and doesn't realize it. And that's exactly how I am.

Before we descend into a real discussion about Brandy and Maks's elimination, let's talk about their dances. How'd you feel they did? You'll remember they scored a perfect 30 once.

I thought they did great. As always, they were very, very solid. The paso she did, she just showed that aggression and attitude. The paso is very angry, and I thought it was perfect. I just really, really enjoyed her paso a lot. With the Argentine Tango, I actually thought they had great luck because those are Maks's strongest dances that he choreographs. Those were my two favorite dances that I did with him. They also obviously got the encore, which was wonderful. I thought the judges did a great job scoring them. And she was really good. One thing she did great with this week was her emotions. She chilled out a bit, and she even referenced it when she was getting her scores. Now, I will tell you a little side note, my friend. Our little Movieline chat last week caused a big, big stir with Brandy's fans. I got some not-so-nice tweets about that.

Oh, God.

Oh, you have no idea! Brandy had to call off the hounds and tell everyone to just relax. It's kind of funny, because if you watched the show last night, Mark Ballas said the same exact thing I said in that pre-produced package. You can just tell how bad she wants it. Then they showed all these shots of her closing her eyes and being really intense. I never said that as a bad thing! That's too bad that people misinterpreted it. My whole thing is -- and I'm sure I'll get criticized again -- is I wanted her to enjoy the experience for what it is. It doesn't matter if you win the mirror ball trophy or not. It's about having the best experience and making the most out of the journey. But oh my goodness, I didn't know that was such a terrible thing to say. And now I'm getting blamed for her losing as well! I appreciated her performance this week. I thought she did a very good job and was really relatable to fans at home. I thought this was probably the most real we saw her throughout the entire season.

Well, people would have to be idiots to blame you for Brandy's elimination. It's pretty obvious that Bristol has a big voting machine behind her, Kyle's become an underdog favorite, and that means a consistently solid competitor like Brandy is bound to fall through the cracks at the last moment.

And also, don't blame it on me -- I put my votes in! Give me a break! I saw Brandy and Maks on Good Morning America this morning and on Jimmy Kimmel last night, and they were saying, "People say 'I don't want that person to win,' and then they don't vote for the person they want to win.'" I went on Good Morning America on Tuesday morning and talked about Bristol, and they asked me, "Is there a conspiracy?" And I said, "No! She's just getting more votes! People are flooding the phone lines to vote for her!" At this point, all the negative publicity that she's getting -- all the Tea Party, Sarah Palin, "She shouldn't be there!", Rick and Kurt and Brandy were robbed! -- I think this has helped her. From my standpoint, I felt like after she did her first dance on Monday, she got some of the loudest applause in the ballroom. I feel like now, people just feel bad. Is it her fault that she's gone out there and done the best she can do? No. She knows she's not the best dancer. She said that. It's pretty obvious. But is it her fault that people are flooding the phone lines for her? No! In the end, what is she supposed to do? "I can't take all this negative criticism. I'm going to quit." No! What has she done wrong? I think there are a lot of people who feel bad for her, and they think, "You know what, I'm going to vote for her." I feel bad!

Your beloved Maks was eliminated. He has still never won the mirror ball trophy. How would you describe your feelings about what happened with him?

I'm heartbroken for Maks. Despite what Brandy's fans feel about me, I clearly thought they were going to win the whole thing. I said that the first time he had her. I even texted him that. "You've got it. You're going to win." As much as we say, "It's a TV show!" it's also part of his profession. You always want to be considered the best at your profession. I feel personally bad that I wasn't able to get him the mirror ball. You feel a little regret there as well. I'm very sad for Maks. He works so hard and does nothing but try to make his stars feel so comfortable and beautiful. He makes sure they feel prepared. Many times, these pro dancers do so much more than teach you a routine. They are your friend, and really, your best friend throughout the whole thing. For me, because I didn't know LA, Maks helped me get adjusted to a new area. He helped me with so much more than on the dance floor, and it sounds like from everything Brandy has said, like "I have a friend for life" -- he was the same way with her. In that respect, you know the work he put into this season. You just love that he's in it to win it. He has a lot of pride. I feel so bad.

What a sham. I'm so disappointed in DWTS. Brandy's elimination was very unfair but not unexpected. Bristol has a huge advantage in that she has been on the public stage in a big way for several years because of her mother's exposure not due to her own talents or accomplishments. I've lost respect for the integrity of the judging and of the producers.

  • sharon barto says:

I am shocked and disappointed with the viewers voting Brandy OFF!!!!!!!!!
Where is everyones brain? When you get down this close to the finals, one needs to think about who is the BEST DANCER and not who is their favorite person!!! I am so disgusted with what happened last evening I'm not sure i'll ever watch the show again.
Please tell me there was a mistake made, or at least tell me the network is going to do something about this incident and make sure it never happens again!!! Please, please, please do something about this!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dorcell says:

Erin you only mention Kyle and Bristol possibility of winning DWTS is making me feel that Jennifer will be eliminated next week. If she does go it will only prove even more that DWTS has nothing to do with dancing its just about popularity.

  • Shirley says:

Blaw, blaw, blaw, blaw......................what a bunch of nothing, they blame me............................booo hooo, are you nuts, yes just like all the cry baby's on the boards, this is a peoples vote, yes, and Brandy has been out of the loop for a long time, I'm surprised she didn't leave sooner. She thought she was a shoe in, you win with your fan base here not who is the best dancer it has always been this way and that is how it is. lets face it. I think Bristol has done an awesome job, she is young, never danced, never been in front of cameras, not a movie star, not a singer, she lived in Alaska, duh.......she has no agenda, she is not trying to make it in show business after screwing the pooch. I find her refreshing, she wanted to learn how to dance and has done a fine job. Go Bristol, I don't vote just watch, I think you have done a wonderful job for just a plane person who isn't a super star.

  • Jan says:

Favorite "celebs" often stay longer than what is reflected by their talent or performances. That's to be expected but this is totally riduculous. Bristol is about as talented as a as a person dancing on stilts. This "reality show" has outlived it's usefulness when this kind of nonsense happens. I'm done.

  • Richard says:

The judges vote on how well the stars dance. The public votes on who they like. Bristol certainly didn't dance better than Brandy. What should the NEW title of the show be next year?

  • Jasper says:

Think Brandy hurt her own chances by her attitude and taking this so serious. She also thought she had this in the bag and she was like Nichole of last season. So sad she did not act like she did lastnite in the begining of the season she would still be in the running. Also Maks fighting with the judges does not help her at all.

  • Catherine says:

I think Max or macks whatever his name is is the reason Brandy was voted off it is her own partner that ruined it for her!!He is a nightmare and mean he wss so mean to her and made her cry people could not stand him even in the end he was only trying to save his own job and threw her under the bus when asked about what happened how he felt it was all about him how he liked being on the show blah blah blah get rid of that arrogant you know what

  • ten2279 says:

I'm shocked with last night's elimination. I was hoping to see three quality freestyle dances. What a waste of time! I could care less who wins at this point.

  • Connie Johnson says:

I was shocked at the results last night. Dancing is what they should be judged on, not who wins the popularity poll. Bristol has come a long way true, but there is no comparison in her dancing to Brandy's nor in their scores. Bristol and Mark have been on the bottom of the leader board most of the time, at least since the earlier eliminations. There best score has been 27; give me a break!
If you do not have a public following, I guess you'll never win. Dancing with the starts means "stars." Bristol is riding on her mother's coat tails other than Kate Gosselin, there have been "stars" on the show not wanna be's. Dancing with the stars should only be about dancing.
I will not watch the finals or the show again. Give it to the judges; they know dancing.

  • Kathy says:

I can understand the frustration that others are feeling. While I am not a professional dancer, I was raised from little on dancing like polish people do. So while I will admit that Bristol has improved, the fact remains that she should have been gone before Florence Henderson was voted off. Brandy was doing an excellent job this week also the week before. While everyone keeps blaming her still being there because of her mother, which could possibly be true, I think DWTS has a hand amongst this. Whoever works in their publicity department sure knows what they are doing. Their ratings have gone the the roof. Even to the fact that an older gentleman was made at the outcome that he took a gun and shot out his TV. Now which I think that is a little extreme I know where he's coming from. Bristol needs to limber-up a bit so she doesn't stand there like a statue and look like she has a board up her back. if they were going to let her stay then they should have let David hasselhoff stay too! All I can say is " hats off" to the people who thought up this angle.

  • Paula says:

Yes! You are partly at fault Erin! Own up to your own Palin sell-out! You go on GMA with 3 hours left to vote and talk all about how people are voting for Sanjaya Palin! Did you talk about how people are voting for Brandy, or Jennifer, or Kyle? NO! That's the problem with this whole season and why people who have been fans of this show for 11 seasons are seething! Bristol is judged on an easier scale and given higher marks all season long, including the semi-finals, than any other contestant. She receives constant and ongoing promotion from ABC that no other contestant receives. She deserves NONE of it. If you give to one, you should give to all. Had that been the case then the anger and vitrole would be significantly less.
The hijacking of the voting systems is another story, but one you have no control over so you're off the hook on that one. But you ARE accountable for your unequal promotion and treatment of the contestants.

  • So Classless says:

This Erin person is such a tactless wench. So if Brandy would have been loud, abrasive, snarky, and just plain ole unfunny--like yourself-- she would have at least came in 3rd? Child, please! Jealousy is so unattractive and unladylike.

  • Cheryl Powers says:

Dancing with the stars show results on Tuesday night has been difficult to digest. This just shows how racially divided is our society, it don’t matter how good you're and how hard you try, it’s who you know and not what you know.....
Our family is terrible troubled over this situation and yes we voted to put an end to this madness. We strongly suggest to the producers of Dancing with the Stars to find a solution to this matter. Someone is rigging the results,
and we the people need an answer, you owe us loyal fans satisfaction. If Bristol Palin continues to dance how can she live with herself knowing that people are voting for her because of her mother. If I was Bristol I would concede and teach people in our society a moral lesson "LOVE & FAIRNESS". She has been on the receiving end of this situation before so now here is her chance to do something about it. And not just Bristol, Producers of Dancing with the Stars need to deal with this craziness and put some saneness back into our society.

  • ten2279 says:

I don't think Erin is at fault for this. She's just stating an opinion as a viewer. She mentioned that she wanted Maks and Brandy to win. Why blame Erin for something she has no control over. She's a sportscaster, she doesn't work for the show.

  • Gloria says:

Cathrine who really cares what you think Maks was not the reason she was voted off.You don't just fall from top to bottom like they did and goodbye see you .something happen with the voting or the people votes mabe they went for the other two. People stop blaming Erin how could it be her fault? Erin loved you and Maks you got all my votes.I am just so upset with it all now.

  • Teza says:

OMG! THIS ARTICLE TALKING ABOUT BRANDY IS JUST AS BAD AS THE PREVIOUS WEEK! ERIN CANNOT STAND TO THINK ABOUT THE FACT THAT BRANDY AND MAKS MAY HAVE A DIFFERENT (SPECIAL) FRIENDSHIP , DIFFERENT FROM ALL OF THE OTHERS. LOL! IT COMES ACROSS VERY , VERY SNARKY , WITH THE COMMENTS LIKE.."looks like Maks did the same with Brandy" ARE YOU KIDDING ME.LOLLLLLL. JEALOUSY !
AND HOW DOES ON JUST ABOUT EVERY QUESTION ABOUT BRANDY SHE ANSWERS IT WITH A STORY ABOUT HER AND MAKS?
AND ARE YOU KIDDING ME?LOL! MAYBE IF YOU HAD OF STARTED SUPPORTING MAKS OPENLY BEFORE THEY GOT VOTED OFF, IT MAY HAVE HELPED. HOW ARE YOU GONNA SAY NOW..THAT YOU THOUGHT THEY WOULD WIN.LOL

  • DiMi says:

I do think that Erin just doesn't like Brandy and can't seem to hide it, but I, also, think she was accurate that Brandy's intensity and fixation on winning took some of the fun out of the competition and made people dislike her. When men are extremely driven to win, we think it's masculine. When women are extremely driven to win, we think it's desperate. It's not fair- it's sexist, actually - but Erin was just explaining why some people didn't like Brandy.
Bristol is going to win next week. She does have a Tea Party voting machine behind her and the other celebrities cannot compete.

  • mona says:

It's called jealousy. Brandy can dance circles around Erin, but we never heard her admit it, did we? Truth hurts, but I'm glad of one thing. We'll never have to listen to snarky Erin mention Brandy's name again.
At least this blog wasn't as bad as the last. The "I"s were there, but they didn't have it.

  • Erin is sooooo jealous says:

I think Erin is heated because Maks hit and quit it, but you can sooooo tell he feels differently about Brandy. On Jimmy Kimmel Brandy hand her hand on Mak's thigh and they were holding and rubbing each others hands, and then on a clip on GMA she tells Maks he has her heart and he tells her that he trust her, the chemistry between them is undeniable,I bet it KILLED Erin to watch their Argentine Tango, did you see their encore AT, that was hot! Erin can't stand that Maks is into Brandy in a way he was never into her, but that's the way it is skinny beeoch.

  • Faye F says:

Hello Shirely knock knock anyone home in that organ you call a brain? It's called dancing with the "stars" you just said Bristol wasn't a star (super or otherwise) so why is she on the show again? Smh.

  • Catherine says:

LOL, I knew it would be only a matter of time before Brandy fans would jump in here and start blaming Erin! And double LOL at the Maks/Brandy comments like the last one. Since people seem to know everything Erin says, they should know that Erin did say Brandy has gotten better scores than she and was a better dancer. Yeah jealousy indeed. I think some people should look into a mirror. I really feel for Maks, and for Brandy too but thank goodness no more whiny comments from some of the Brandy fans. Now we can just focus on the finals.
The kind of comments Erin got for her last blog were disgusting and people should be ashamed of themselves. And blaming Erin for Brandy getting eliminated is ridiculous. She went to GMA because she's a correspondent. You think she should have went there and demand that the segment only highlights M/B or she wouldn't do it? That's another ridiculous thing to assume.
I'm not a Bristol fan but people shouldn't blame her for anything. It's not her fault if people are voting for her. At the end, it's a popularity contest and she proved to be more popular than Brandy. Maybe she's even going to win this whole thing who knows but I wouldn't be surprised seeing the way things have gone. But I'm rooting for Kyle. Kyle/Lacey FTW!!! And looking forward to Erin's blog next week!

  • Erin, Erin, Erin says:

This is what she said: Bristol’s getting better numbers than I did!
Poor widdle Erin, tweeting her fans for sympathy. Takes what a couple of twitter crazies say and runs with it for all it's worth. You go girl! True professionalism!

  • Catherine says:

Bristol getting better scores than Erin is a joke, simple as that. So what if she mentioned the crazies who tweeted her (and it wasn't just few), it was disgusting what they said. If the crazies have a right to speak their mind, so does she. And now people are going after Mark which again is ridiculous.
