Kris Allen's Single is Dying Like It's Dying

allenlambert.jpg

Sad news for fans of puppy-looking dudes everywhere: American Idol's last winner Kris Allen, Randy Jackson's onetime cherished "tender dog," is having a rough go on iTunes this week with his new single "Live Like We're Dying." The rollicking, campfire-friendly, Gavin Degraw-conjuring song drops to #58 on the singles chart this week, ranking somewhere down there with that godforsaken "You're a Jerk" number and probably the 12-years-strong "My Heart Will Go On." Now, a stillborn Idol single wouldn't necessary be news unless there was also a strange Idol triumph to counteract it, right? Strap on your puffy album-cover dress-thing, because one Idol contestant may be pulling ahead far after the polls have closed.

According to Amazon, the as-yet-untitled Adam Lambert album, which doesn't drop until November 24, is at #2 on the Amazon Bestsellers List. Phenomenally, the Idol runner-up's label RCA and Amazon had yet to even release a statement about pre-order availability. Currently he's ranked only behind Barbra Streisand and in front of Susan Boyle, which means he has proven himself a beacon of glitter-slathered hope for 57-to-62-year-olds everywhere. Somewhere in a luxurious grotto filled with gyrating holograms of Leona Lewis, Simon Cowell snickers and cries, knowing his childhood dream of breeding a pop star from the well-costumed genes of Butch Patrick and Jo Anne Worley is complete.

I have no idea how true any of this is, but I love this post just because of how much it annoys all of the overly-earnest AI fans. And I hope it is in fact true - it warms my heart every time one of the talentless hacks (i.e., all of them) from that awful, awful show fails.

    Looked again my dear!

  • kate says:

Well, last I checked, the single was up to #30, which isn't bad, considering I haven't heard it much on the radio at all. I like it. It's catchy. I'd love to support Adam's music, but I definitely have to hear it first, just like with Kris's. I don't preorder stuff. You just end up disappointed.

  • Lowbrow says:

I'm just happy to see that Louis Virtel doesn't lower himself by replying to any of these inane user comments.

  • Nelinj says:

Kris' single died as soon as he sang it cuz it isn't his original...It is a COVER (a copycat) of the same exact song by the UK band called The Script. I re-iterate, "Kris WHO!!??"...lol!

  • Leigh says:

It's Ruben/Clay all over again. In more than one way!"
"I disagree! And besides, Clay Aiken is classy , Adam Lambert, on the other hand, is an attention whore!"
Actually, Clay is the "attention whore!" Clay has a better voice than Adam, but has proven to be one of the biggest frauds and ego-maniacs in music and is now getting what he deserves - nothing. And the Claymate freaks didn't help him much either
Adam seems like a very nice guy (and honest), but frankly, I cannot stand his voice. And people thought Claymates were irritating freaks. They are nothing when compared with Glamberts. And yes, Glamberts are mostly middle aged women. Just go to any Adam fan site and check out pictures of Glambert pre-concert parties.

  • Susie says:

Guess the 38,000,000 million votes that came from Arkansas don't translate to single/album sales do they?
I'm sorry, but I don't think Kris should have won. He was hardly the most talented singer and I am sick to death of people saying poor Kris. He will sink or swim on his own.
Adam is going to be iconic, a worldwide star. He is unique, original, and amazing. Go Adam!

What a mean-spirited post. Why can't we route for Kris AND Adam. Geez.
Last time I looked, Kris was number 15 on the pop chart and 30 on the general music chart on itunes-- four spots above Colbie Caillat and only a few spots down from Blac Eyed Peas and Beyonce.
Why would I buy Kris's album on amazon when it's been available on itunes for months?
    Anyway, get over it.

  • Cookie says:

I am looking forward to see what Adam Lambert does with this opportunity...I hope the music lives up to all the hype. I truly believe Adam has the potential to be much more than a top 40 artist..with the right record. He is even more impressive in person than he was on TV...that bodes well for selling concert tickets in the future. It was certainly well publicized who was selling tickets to the AI summer tour during this bad economy, and it wasn't the winner. And since AI is over, now, it is time for the "winner" to stop riding Adam's coattails.

  • Shilow says:

To the crazy Kris fans posting here. I never liked Kris' voice but when I saw him live he was so short I was shocked. I am 5'4'' and I do not think he is taller that me. I thought he looked more like a girl than Adam who is tall and manly in spite of the nail polish. I do not know why anyone is surprised that Kris is a failure. At the concerts people walked out on him every night. Just for the record, the anti gay comments only make me love Adam more. He should not have to live in a world with people like you. He is way better than you are. The comment about the age of Adam's fans is wrong. At the concert I went to most of the fans were about my age, 23, teenagers or my moms age who is 41. I really do not know what difference that would make anyway. As long as the fans have enough money to pay for a concert or and buy the music why should that be an issue?

    Quoted from http://www.votefortheworst.com/20090526/t_says_kris_allen_did_not_receive_38_million_votes_arkansas
"The Fox outlet that originally said that Kris Allen received 38 million votes from Arkansas alone has retracted that statement. It seemed implausible that 38% of the votes cast would come from one state, and it looks like it was completely false. Oh well, it would have been funny if it were true. And now it just goes to show that VFTW, and not Arkansas, made Kris Allen win of course. There is no other explanation.
Based on incorrect information provided to one of our reporters, FOX16 News reported Wednesday night, an extraordinary number of votes came in from Arkansas to American Idol.
AT&T spokesman Ted Wagnon told us today, "AT&T does not divulge or confirm how many votes were cast in any state."
    We apologize for the error."

  • LL says:

Ummm....I think you're undermining your heartwarming message of antihomophobic tolerance by making fun of someone for being so short he looked like a girl to you. Just sayin'.

  • Andy says:

How can you say that Adam is an attention whore? You are absolutely disgusting. Adam hasn't done a single thing to get media attention aside from being talented and inspiring. I loathe you.

  • Whiterosey says:

Well.. Louis Virtel! Why didn't you just say "Kris's Single sucks and is dying(Not really at all!). Reason? Just because Adam is my god!"
Seems like you've no attitude to be a writer cuz you take things so personal!
And to those who're posting negative comments, just one thing to ask to you guys, "WHY DID YOU EVEN BOTHER TO READ SOMETHING ABOUT KRIS ALLEN IF YOU DON'T LIKE HIM AT ALL?" Seems like you don't have much to do with your lives so wasting time insulting others? One friendly advice to you people, "LIVE LIKE YOU"RE DYING OR YOU"LL REGRET WHEN YOUR LAST MINUTES COME!"

  • Cate says:

I'm so sick of Clay Aiken fans and their idiotic opinions. BTW, Adam's album is now #1 on Amazon.

  • Whiterosey says:

    CHEERS KATHY!

  • Will says:

Excellent Kerry, I totally agree and feel the same way. I have had to endure the smug totally classless way Kris fans , who couldn't be gracious in victory and to rub it to Adam fans, and God forbid we ever defended ourselves or said anything less than sterling about Kris, we were labled bitter and what ever. I am so sure if the shoe was on the other foot there would have been more whining and bitterness from Kris fans, so this proof of who the really star is, the most popular the most talented showing where it really counts in the realy world by the most press coverage, and Amazon are showing the world the real star. The world knows who the real star is and while I would love to slam back at Kris fans, I won't because Adam love Kris and I like Kris , he is one on the most likeable and evolved persons on the planet, its too bad his fans are not, but now actions are speaking louder and the real star is shining and It FEELS GOOD

  • Whiterosey says:

What I found out after reading this article(so-called) is that It's not Kris's Single which is dying. It's Louis Virtel's Career which is dying! I'm quite sure not much people will be willing to read his articles(if there could be more) of course, except some crazy Adam Lambert's fans!
It's not that I don't like Adam, I'm KRADAM fan but why can't ADAM'S fan be a bit more polite and have more attitude as Adam does?

  • Dunsa says:

Oh no!!! That's not a very nice thing to say to Kris. I am a fan of Adam's and I have ordered his debut CD. But I really don't like the heading of this article "Kris Allen's Single is Dying Like It's Dying".
We all knew from the start that Adam will be making it BIG but honestly the name of this thread will make Kris' fans very upset and will stir up another fan war. Oh well, that's life these days.
Can't wait to get my hands on the CD!!!!

  • guinevere_79 says:

Can we talk about the positive signs for Adam without mentioning Kris, and vise versa? The competition has long been over, and there’s no need to compare them.
    Just a few points though:
    1. The Amazon charts is not exactly a good predictor of eventual first week sales. And the volume of albums sold by Amazon is not that huge. Most album sales online are still sourced from iTunes via digital downloading. So while reaching #1 on Amazon is good news for Adam, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll top the charts come November.
    2. Kris’s single has managed to chart on iTunes without any promotion whatsoever, except for word-of-mouth from his fans. The single has not even been released for adds to radio stations. The single goes up for adds on October 13, more than two weeks for now. So basically, aside from Kris’ fans who get news from the internet, very few people know that he’s already released a single. The general public will only know of it once the song is played on radio.

  • The Truth says:

Apart from fans loving Adam for his awesome talent and his looks, we also have one more thing in common. There are people on this earth who don't care about a person's sexuality. So anyone here who is dissing Adam about how "gay" you have actually asked others to reach out and love him more!!! This is called karma people!! Adam makes most women weak in their knees - both young and old. His performances are riveting and magnetizing!!!

  • flor says:

Funny thing is we haven't heard a single song or lyric from Adam's CD. So who knows all these people maybe be buying but end up not liking. We have to remember that the Idol winner always has to do stuff AI style whether they want to or not. Adam has a bit more freedom in his style of stuff. Lets give it time.

  • Kelsey says:

Before you get all pious and self-important, you Glamberts need to go investigate how much some of the other idols have raised for their respective charities, particularly Clay Aiken, Carrie Underwood, Elliott Yamin, Kelly Clarkson have all raised MILLIONS. Idol fans are notoriously generous and supportive of the causes important to their idols. So it's great to contribute to a cause Adam champions but don't go bragging around the internet as if it is some unique concept Adam created. It only shows your ignorance.

  • Kerry says:

For all of you out their who still want to deny that Arkansas produced 38 million votes with less than 3 million people, just do the simple math. All it would take is 3,800 people voting 10,000 times each. Many people in Arkansas have bragged about producing that amount of votes and more. AT&T was teaching power texting and lending out phones at voting parties for Kris, Kris' brother who is a cheerleading coach and student sent out e-mails to all of the students at the university he attends with instruction on methods of generating power voting with phones and computers. He organized fundraiser to buy Go Phones with California numbers for three additional hours of voting. The same university bragged about blocking Adam's numbers so that he could not get votes. My mother’s best friend comes from an old wealthy Arkansas family and she insists that her political sources confirm the votes. If you look at the statement that is called a “denial”, as a law school graduate, I call it lawyering up. AT&T merely said they would not release or confirm the votes, not that it was true. This is the first time Idol did not release the margin by which Kris “won”. The tour proved Adam had more fans everywhere but Arkansas. Adam also sold more merchandise then all the other Idols combined. Adam’s fan sites have hundreds of thousands more posts than Kris’. Now Adam is #1 on Amazon pre order charts. Isn’t it time for the Arkansas crowd to be honest?
