"The Muppets' star is the 2,466th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is located in front of the historic El Capitan Theatre." Nice real estate! And nice timing — The Muppets is out on DVD and Blu-ray today. The honor comes 57 years after Kermit's first TV appearance. No rush! And congrats to all.

Miss Piggy has been a TV and movie star for decades, but in The Muppets, she finally gets the spotlight to herself and dominates the entire film start to finish -- or so she'd have us believe. The Muppets are legendary TV and film characters, but there's something about Sesame Street's giggliest resident, Elmo, that makes small children perk up. Constance Marks, the director of the new documentary Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey, put Elmo's appeal this way: "Kids sit up, pay attention, and turn on. There's that bright red fur and adorable bulgy eyes, but it's the soul of the puppeteer that people are responding to. It's an amazing gift."

The beloved muppet characters of Jim Henson's 1980s series Fraggle Rock entertained a generation of kids with their emphasis on friendship, their penchant for cooperation, and the subtle socialist messaging that made being part of the Fraggle Rock fandom so darn infectious... and strangely compulsive.
