The King's Speech, The Fighter and The Social Network Lead Golden Globe Nominees

It looks like the Hollywood Foreign Press missed their screening of True Grit. The Coen Brothers Oscar favorite was completely ignored during this morning's nominations for the 68th Annual Golden Globe awards, meaning young Hailee Steinfeld won't get to rub elbows with an inebriated Brendan Fraser come Jan. 16. Don't be too upset, though: The HFPA found room to nominate Johnny Depp...twice! Also, Red. Click ahead for the nominees.

Ricky Gervais to Return to Golden Globes

They say awards season starts earlier every year. Apparently, they mean it: the producers of the Golden Globes have taken the unusual step of announcing waaaay in advance that Ricky Gervais will be hosting the Globes ceremony one more time...in January. I guess he really wanted to get started on that drinks tab. [Coming Soon]

Was Roger Ebert 'Team Bigelow'?

Roger Ebert gave Avatar four stars upon its release, but since then, we've detected a certain surliness from the iconic film critic. When compiling his Top Ten list for 2009, he left Avatar off the list and gave it its own "Special Jury Prize," preemptively stating, "No, that doesn't mean it's the best film of the year. It means it won the Special Jury Prize." Now, in the afterglow of James Cameron's Globes two-fer, Ebert took to Twitter to let us know how he really feels about Avatar. Don't sugarcoat it, Rog! Where Ryan Bingham Was

When T Bone Burnett accepted the Golden Globe for Best Song yesterday, he kept calling out to winner Ryan Bingham to come up to make his speech. Thing is, the actor/singer (whose tune "The Weary Kind" from Crazy Heart won him the Globe) was obliviously sitting in the bar. "I just got up for a second, and a friend of mine was there," he told PopEater during the backstage press conference. "Yeah, I blew it. I'm sorry." [PopEater]

How Many Misspelled Celebrity Names Can You Find on NBC's Golden Globes Page?

If this week taught us one thing, it's that NBC has lost a bit of that peacock magic. And apparently that extends across every facet of the brand -- including its website, which bears several gnarly celebrity typos on its Golden Globes page. See how many you can find! (Answers are after the jump.)

Halle Berry Gives Good Globe

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association confirmed another handful of presenters on Monday, adding Halle Berry, Colin Farrell and Matthew Fox to a list that already includes the previously announced Julia Roberts, Mickey Rourke and Jennifer Aniston. Berry is the early favorite to be most visibly shaken by Globes host Ricky Gervais's ad-libbing at said presenters' expense; Rourke, meanwhile, remains heavily favored as the aggrieved presenter most likely to punch the comic backstage. The 5 Most Ridiculous Golden Globe Best Picture Winners. Ever.

The Golden Globes honor film comedies and dramas, and sometimes that's unfortunate. Brilliant comedies don't necessary come out every year, and every so often the dramas lag too. 1977 was very comedy/musical-heavy (Annie Hall, The Goodbye Girl, Saturday Night Fever) and 1990 was drama-heavy (Dances With Wolves, Goodfellas), and for that reason we'll give the Hollywood Foreign Press some credit for picking these five weird winners. But not too much -- the #1 entry on our list is laughably unforgivable.

The Golden Globes TV Frontrunners: A Movieline IM Chat

Your Modern Family-, Dexter-defending empress Julie Miller has plenty of ideas about this morning's Golden Globe Nominations. Your 30 Rock- and Mad Men-loving fogy Louis Virtel has different ones. When paired in the same AIM chat window under their high school screennames, the two start to agree before diverging forever when it comes to the team spirit of Glee. Shudder.

It's Gonna Be Me

For the last two months, Precious star (and Movieline covergirl) Gabourey Sidibe has been telling any talk show who'll listen what a huge 'N Sync fan she was in her youth. Perhaps it's good karma, then, that Justin Timberlake was the one to announce her name at the Golden Globe nominations this morning. "I told my roommate, and I literally said, 'Oh my God, Justin just said my name,'" she told People. "He finally said my name." [People]

7 Stories and Subplots To Watch Among the '09 Golden Globes Film Nominees

The hype has settled and the nominees are read, and thus the Golden Globes peek over the awards-season horizon. With their weird, sprayed-on lacquer glow comes a succession of questions and concerns: Julia Roberts? Tobey Maguire? It's Complicated? Believe it, believe it, and believe it. But that's just the start of the fun. As inconsequential as so many perceive the Golden Globes to be, there are plenty of viable story lines to consider among today's nominations on the film side. To wit:

It's time to get excited-ish for the 67th Annual Golden Globes, the nominations for which will be announced bright and early Tuesday morning. In the spirit of reader service and/or your compulsive awards-race bookmaking habit, Movieline has plucked a handful of developments that may come as tomorrow's most surprising. Some factors -- Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep's likely dual nominations, for example -- were disqualified as surprises on account of the surfeit of slots made available by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Others are simply waiting for you to suggest them. Please do so after the jump!
