Weekend Receipts: The Social Network Accepts $23 Million Friend Requests

The hotly-anticipated The Social Network ruled the roost this weekend, hitting number one and finally giving Justin Timberlake a movie he doesn't have to be ashamed of. And, that's just about it, I don't think any other new movies opened this. . .oh, wait. Shia LaBeouf Vs. Frankie Muniz: The Thrilla in Vanilla

Liston vs. Patterson. Ali vs. Frazier. Alien vs. Predator. To this rollicking roster of titanic tussles, we can now add the fearsome blood feud of Shia LaBeouf and Frankie Muniz, or, as I prefer to think of it, Scrawny, Pasty-White Fight Club.

What an exciting time to be alive. After years of Planet Terror and Death Proof being available on separate, skimpy DVDs, the complete theatrical version of Grindhouse is being released on Blu-ray this Tuesday. That's a full three hours and 11 minutes of zombies, machine-gun leg strippers, homicidal stunt men, and the funniest trailers this side of Kentucky Fried Movie. And in true grindhouse fashion, this is a double-feature post: the trailer for Death Race 2 is after the jump.

No Longer Talking About My Generation

My Generation -- the ABC mockumentary that dared you to fall in love with 9 thinly-sketched archetypes -- is the second show this season to get the cancellation axe from execs. After posting even terrible numbers the first week and even worse numbers the second, ABC took pity on us all and sent the narcissistic Gen-Y navel-gazers straight to hell. Alas, poor My Generation, we'll always have your maddeningly vague and incredibly irritating posters. [Vulture]

The Hobbit Set Goes Up In Teeny-Tiny Flames

I suppose after such a run of good luck -- your films grossing more than $3 billion worldwide, enough Oscars to goldplate your house and Sean Astin on your speed-dial -- cosmically speaking, you might be due for some bad luck. But man, poor Peter Jackson, is really catching his bad luck in buckets.

Great Gatsby Suddenly Hitched to Social Network, Baz Luhrmann, Leonardo DiCaprio

Grains of salt at the ready: A semi-disclosure from Baz Luhrmann -- at a special Social Network screening in New York -- has placed his long-gestating Great Gatsby adaptation high on the filmmaker's list of Things to Do Today. And while he wouldn't namecheck any of the cast he has in mind, another source has no problem doing exactly that. And by the way: Did you hear about the Gatsby parallels in The Social Network? Matt Dillon Suing for $100K in Unpaid Crash Profits

Add Matt Dillon to the list of people suing Bob Yari over Crash.
