DC Pretty Much Confirms a Flash Movie by Denying a Justice League Movie

Today at New York Comic Con, DC Comics' chief creative officer Geoff Johns was asked if there would be a DC equivalent of Marvel's superhero ensemble movie The Avengers. Without missing a beat, Johns answered, "I'm going to speak frankly. I think our characters are bigger than Marvel's" -- adding that he wants to avoid "smashing them together." That sounds like a fairly clear "no" to a Justice League movie (while not missing a chance to slam Marvel). When asked about a film adaptation of The Flash, meanwhile, Johns started to answer, stopped, then merely replied, "That would be cool." [Comicbookmovie via io9]

The Long and Winding Road: The 5 Greatest Beatles-Related Films Ever

A young John Lennon hits theaters this weekend with the release of Nowhere Boy. The film title, a play on The Beatles' "Nowhere Man" from the Rubber Soul album, is about as close as you will get to hearing an actual Beatles song in Nowhere Boy (rights to the Beatles library is expensive, folks.) In honor of Nowhere Boy and the 70th birthday of John Lennon (okay, this is more in honor of John Lennon's 70th birthday) let's take a look at the five best Beatles related films to ever be released.

3-D Scrapped on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1

Warner Bros. issued a statement this afternoon announcing it had scrapped efforts to convert the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to 3-D, claiming it didn't have enough time to adequately complete the process before the film's Nov. 19 release date. "Despite everyone's best efforts, we were unable to convert the film in its entirety and meet the highest standards of quality," the statement read. Meanwhile producer David Heyman reasserted his commitment to the "integrity" of J.K. Rowling's source material; director David Yates added: ""This decision, which we completely support, underscores the fact that Warner Bros. has always put quality first." Except for Clash of the Titans, but hey. Accidents happen. [Warner Bros.]

Is Universal Finally Ready to Change The Dilemma Trailer?

When the trailer for The Dilemma appeared online last month, the first thought that ran through Movieline HQ was just how long it would take for someone to complain about its childish and inappropriate use of the word "gay." (Says Vince Vaughn's character in the opening moments of the trailer: "Ladies and gentlemen, electric cars are gay.") That was answered almost immediately in the comments section, and echoed again earlier today by Anderson Cooper, who told Ellen DeGeneres that he found the trailer appalling. Now it appears that Universal is waking up to the fact that maybe this line of marketing wasn't such a good idea.

Blue Valentine Slapped With NC-17. Also: Harvey Weinstein is a Genius

You could tell as far back as its Sundance premiere that the Ryan Gosling/Michelle Williams melodrama Blue Valentine would be rated hard-R for nudity, graphic sexuality, strong language, violence, smoking, alcohol abuse, and whatever else Derek Cianfrance could squeeze into his overwrought emo-fascist twaddle. But damn if I underestimated the ways Harvey Weinstein might anticipate (and/or manipulate) the system for maximum notoriety.

Will Shia LaBeouf Transform Into Karl Rove for Next Role?

Nyuck, nyuck, gunshot. According to 24 Frames, Transformers: Dark of the Moon star Shia LaBeouf is very interested in making the dramedy College Republicans his next project. The Beef would play a younger version of Karl Rove, who is busy "vying for the position of chief campus conservative under the guidance of one Lee Atwater." Apparently producers of the film have never actually seen Karl Rove, but otherwise this sounds great. No director is attached yet, but Richard Linklatter is circling. [LAT/24 Frames]

Slumdog Millionaire Star to Become the Subject of an Impossible Mission

Call me crazy, but I'm starting to actually look forward to this fourth Mission: Impossible movie. Anil Kapoor, star of 2008's Slumdog Millionaire, has just signed on to portray some sort of a bad guy in the next installment. Honestly, with this cast, M:I4 is shaping up to not be anywhere the disaster that it once appeared to be headed for: Kapoor, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Michael Nykvist. And last but not least, of course ... Brad Bird is directing! Oh, yeah, and Tom Cruise, too, I suppose. [Deadline]
