Yup, Joss Whedon finally came out of the closet at Comic-Con: He'll be directing The Avengers. I had a hunch, Joss. What's this about turning it into a family drama, though? More on that in Movieline's liveblog of the announcement.
They've given the world Alias, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Lost, Dr. Horrible, Firefly, Angel, Fringe, and the reboot of Star Trek. And now they're going to talk to the throngs of their biggest fans.

As Dixon Gaines teased in the liveblog for Tron Legacy's Comic-Con panel, the all-new trailer that premiered in San Diego today is already online. With its unveiling, however, comes a question: Did you like the Warner Bros. ad campaigns for The Dark Knight and Inception? Because then you're going to love this.

After sharing the stage with a blue-headed Will Ferrell for the Megamind panel, I got the chance to grill Tina Fey about Mean Girls 2, the direct-to-DVD sequel to the Fey-written 2006 film. With all-new characters and no involvement from original star Lindsay Lohan, producer Lorne Michaels, or Fey herself, what's her take on the project?

At the tail end of the Tron Legacy panel here at Comic Con, moderator Patton Oswalt asked the crowd, what Disney movie would you most want to see re-made? And who would you like to see make it? Haunted Mansion and Guillermo del Toro were the surprise answers to both.

Not to pull back the curtain on the inner-workings of Movieline HQ, but there are enough scheduled (and let's be honest, probably awesome) liveblogs from Comic-Con headed your way over the next few days to fill up a convention center. The line to get into the fabled Hall H stretched well past the convention center, practically down to the marina. People wanted to get into the hotly anticipated Tron Legacy panel, and were willing to do anything to gain entrance -- even sit through the wan Megamind panel immediately preceding Tron Legacy. Now that's love.

It's the first big movie panel at Comic Con 2010 and Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Jonah Hill braved the unseasonably moist and misty weather of San Diego to show the assorted nerdlingers of the world footage from their new animated 3D movie Megamind...and come to Mel Gibson's defense?

I just got out of the press conference for Tron Legacy, and there is definitely one thing these people don't want to talk about: that recent report that the Pixar braintrust helped contribute to rewrites on the movie. (A Disney rep actually plucked the microphone from my hand after asking me the subject of my question, murmuring, "Sorry, we'd like to avoid that.") One thing they will talk about? That highly anticipated Daft Punk soundtrack.

You've seen the crazy trailer featuring your favorite late-middle-age actors getting their action-film swerve on. You've heard Helen Mirren tease the pleasures and privileges from the set. Now, in advance of its Comic-Con coming-out party, Red has issued two new stills that only help to cement the reliably cartoonish WTF-ery of the entire enterprise. Hint: John Malkovich and his time bomb steal the show. Click through and caption as you will.

After a few uninspiring and overlit stills left Thor with a reputation as the movie that has the most to prove going into Comic-Con, Marvel has finally released a piece of art for the film that looks pretty freakin' kick-ass. Is there a catch? Well, maybe.

Some movies are going into this year's Comic-Con as returning heroes (like Tron Legacy, which has been shown off to great effect for two years running) or sure things (like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, which could have been conceived in a Comic-Con test tube), but there are several big films that have a lot to prove at the Con -- and a lot to lose. Here are six properties that could go either way:
