Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes To Divorce After 5 Years of Marriage

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

They courted and were married amidst a media spectacle, but after five years of marriage, one of Hollywood's most celebrated couples, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, are calling it quits.

The two wed in an Italian castle back in November 2006 and who can forget those images of Cruise giving Holmes a lift on the back of his motorcycle, as well as the jump on the couch seen around the world on the Oprah Winfrey show? But sadly, the romance has faltered, according to People magazine. The news will undoubtedly unleash a barrage of the ever-present five year contract riffs, though the marriage did actually sustain a bit more time - about 5.7 years, in fact.

"This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes's attorney Jonathan Wolfe said. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

Their daughter, Suri, is now six. This was Cruise's third marriage.

My first thought was maybe he should just come Out...But Maybe I am wrong

  • bradslager says:

Well this is a blow to all the contrived sham marriages. They will only make this hard for all the other beards hoping for happiness.

  • topsyturvy says:

So let's see, when they were dating it was ALL VERY PUBLIC (see Tom + couch) but now it's supposed to be "personal and private."

  • TwinkleNettie says:

Tom it's time to come out - 2012. No more sham marriages with flavor-of-the-month beards. Please, please, everyone already knows!

    • Jen Yamato says:

Flavor of the month?? Katie Holmes was on DAWSON'S CREEK, Twinklenettie!

Not sure what to think about Katie. Like "its all about protecting her daughter?" And blame Scientology for - what exactly? Blame the Catholics for slaughtering million, let alone the Inquisition, but Scientology is not anything damaging (in spite of reports of single pissed-off members). Anyone commenting negatively and play the "sect"-card MUST first research everything about Scientology. So Katie has been living a good life with Tom, and everyone knows that a child gets impressed the most during the first five years of her/his life. So what's the deal? Suri is just fine. My first thought was - soon Katie will show up with a new man. She tricked Tom. How could he not have seen it coming, unless she was really "acting" in their private lives for months, maybe years. What a witch. She is bad news. Tom has two other kids - did they suffer anything being raised by Tom? Geez. I hope he finds someone worthy to comfort him.

Is there any way you can remove me from that service?
