Kristen Stewart First On Shortlist For Snow White -- Of Course

KSTEWFORPOST.jpgIt is getting harder and harder to remember who actually landed those young Hollywood roles before the Twilight cast came along. Robert Pattinson seems to have worked nonstop for roughly three years now, Taylor Lautner is just seconds away from surpassing Tom Cruise as the go-to-guy for action films and now comes the news that Kristen Stewart is atop the shortlist to play the eponymous princess in the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman. It's just that the whole thing seems so, well, wrong.

Now Kristen is a fine actress, and does downtrodden females like no other, but Snow White? This is a cheery, positive, whistling-while-she-works type of gal and Kristen has never really been any of those things onscreen. If Prince Charming wandered upon Kristen resting in eternal slumber in the middle of the woods and layed his lips on her, there is a pretty good chance she'd start swinging when she came to. Just saying. Also, Kristen does not come across as an apple eater.

Even in the Twilight saga, where she plays the beautiful and virginal Bella Swan, she still seems like the type of girl you're going to catch smoking a Marlb Red behind the dumpster during class. So, maybe instead of Snow White, Kristen can do some more indies where she gets to play the conflicted young woman who gets around. Her persona was perfect for Adventureland and even the somewhat dividing Welcome to the Rileys. Heck, she even did a pretty great Joan Jett in The Runaways.

Making matters worse is the supporting cast which includes some heavy hitters in Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron. Oh, and Charlize is playing the Evil Queen. The Evil Queen whose magic mirror is supposed to be lying to her when she forces it to proclaim her the "fairest of them all." That's right, the statuesque former model who looks better than roughly 99% of the world's population will be playing a woman of fading looks. Looks like someone's after another Oscar... You know, you should be so quick to say things like this. Just because /universal wants her, that doesn't mean she even wants the role.

  • anonymous says:

I think you may want to read up on the premise of Universal's film. It's not a Disney "whistle-while-you-work" film. It is a re-imagining of the tale, a bit darker and is a story where a mentorship from the Huntsman leads to SW learning to kick some ass to battle the Queen. So, your snarky line about how Kristen's Snow White might, "start swinging when she came to," may just be *exactly* what Universal is looking for.

  • Pete says:

I agree with the previous comment. The role is not the typical snow white, and even if it is, going by the photo you've got of Kristen Stewart for this article, I'd think she is the ideal choice. Anyways, I may be a little biased as I only watch the twilight movies for Kristen!

  • carrie says:

People who are writing this type of article regarding her casting as SW sound moronic. Do you think directors are unaware of what type of roles she's played, what she's like on-screen, etc? Probably not. You are not enlightening them by pointing out that she doesn't usually do "chipper, whistle while you work" kind of roles. Maybe stop for a minute and consider that they want to re-make SW as something a bit different than the cartoon.

  • Spencer Cain says:

Well, I think the author is just trying to point out the fact that the "Twilight" cast seems to dominate the industry these days. And it is worth taking a look at. I mean, three years ago this wouldn't have been the case, and Kristen Stewart wouldn't have been considered at all if she wasn't such a megastar. I think this is cleverly written and funny, and come on, maybe she would be great as a sort of dark "Snow White" but why does everything in the industry need the Tim Burton treatment? It's fucking exhausting. I feel like Kirsten Dunst could be good for a role like this.

  • Jade says:

I find it hard to take seriously the opinion of any writer who would use the word "layed" in an article.

  • ME says:

I do believe that Kristen would be getting more and more roles regardless of Twilight....The industery was already noticing her.....After she was in "In To The Wild"...There was a word of mouth going around about her....So I think she will do many many great things after she is done with Twilight...I sure hope so!!

  • kes says:

Can Katy Perry act? She looks like Snow White, and her personality is eaven a bit SWish.

  • kate says:

    ... is this a joke?

  • kate says:

She's an actress, she's able to act outside of what she's done before. how can she prove that if no one gives her an opportunity? not to mention, 'Snow White and the Huntsman' is a dark twist on the original. Snow White does not cuddle with some dawfs while waiting for prince charming. She's being trained for battle, she's fighting for herself and for "love". It's a different take, so it deserves a different snow white than what would have been picked for a live action version of the disney tale. I appreciate your acknowledgment of her previous good acting, but that does not mean she's limited to that or those roles.

  • pg says:

Bwahahahaha. Haters R Us. Did you write this about The Brat Pack when they were in every movie in the 1980's? St. Elmos Fire, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink. Heck, Charlie Sheen is still on TV! Read the domination of these people in movies and TV: http://eightiesclub.tripod.com/id299.htm
The idiot who wrote this article apparently hasn't read the screen play. This Snow White isn't the "whistle while you work" girl. This is a darker version of Snow White and there's no 7 drawfs. I guess that idiot doesn't know that either.
Clearly this fool doesn't know what he's talking about. Kristen Stewart can hold the screen with Viggo Mortenson. She can be beautiful on screen and if this idiot didn't realize SHE'S A FREAKING ACTRESS!!! She can be charming. If you watched "Catch That Kid" you would have seen charming and loving and bubblely. SHE CAN DO THIS ROLE!
As for Twilight actors getting roles, well isn't that some crap! Kristen has been acting half her life and has paid her dues in the indie world WTF! She deserves to get the roles she's worked all of her life for. Rob did his time too in the indie world too. Couldn't get a major gig after Potter. Potter didn't bring him his fame, Twilight did and he his time and deserves the breaks regarding roles. Maybe you should do some damn research before you wrote this article. As for Taylor, this kid paid his dues as well. He worked hard and deserves to get what he's getting.
I cannot wait to see what they'll do after Twilight is done. These kids have paid their dues. How many times do we have to see Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Denzel Washington? It's about time to get some new faces on the screen. Even Shia LaBouf and Emma Roberts are getting old.
This article sounds like a bunch of jealousy. Who's PR person contacted you and trying to get their girl for the role? Which one of the actresses who tried out and found out that Universal wants Kristen called you and complained?
You're an idiot. These kids have done their time. It's time for everyone to move out the way. There's some new kids on the block. The Brit Pack and The Twilight Pack! GET USED TO IT!

  • talia says:

Snow White's only perky in the disney version, she's darker and more bitter in the Grimm's version. Viggo sounds like he turns into mr. miyagi though, that's hilarious. Meh, Kristen will work, she's pretty and pale but looks like she could cut a beyotch is she had to.

  • dano says:

Charlize Theron circa 2000 was prettier than 99 percent of the world. Charlize 2010 version isn't the same thing. She' still hot, but she looks her age and she's getting a moon face. Kristen didn't do anything for me in twilight, but I saw her stripper movie and that girl has bum as juicy as a georgia peach, she can take on charlize 2010.

  • Romulo says:

    KRISTEN STEWART ES UNA PUTA
    LA MAS PUTA DE HOLLYWOOD
UNA TIA SIN CARISMA, CON CERO PERSONALIDAD
UNA ZORRA QUE SOLO BUSCA ATENCIÓN PARA SATISFACER
SU EGO, ESTA CLASE DE PERRA NO MERECE UNA PELICULA
SINO QUE SE QUEDE ENCLAUSTRADA PARA SIEMPRE.

  • ashkinita says:

Chris Spargo, I doubt you did your homework before writing this piece about Kristen. Have you lived under a rock and not known that she had been in a lot of movies with great actors and directors, who by the way had but glowing praises and admiration for Kristen's acting considering how young she is. Jealous much, I see, I think you are wanting another actress to star in this role, unfortunately Universal wants Kristen, because they know she will be great in this role plus not to mention all of her fans to see the movie. I just don't get why some people in the media like dissing Kristen, is it because she doesn't conform to what Hollywood dictates she should act, like partying, and getting papped all the time? She's true to herself as a person and actress, she's multi-talented, naturally beautiful, not artificial and very down to earth that is why she's loved by her fans and one very special guy! So please before you start writing stuff about someone do your homework!

  • Quirky- says:

The ubiquity of these Twilight kids worries and annoys me, but it's the nauseating predictability of the Twitards rushing to the defense of Kristen "can sort of act, if required to look sullen" Stewart, Robert "hey, at least I'm charming in interviews" Pattinson and Taylor "signature look: confused, constipated plank of wood" Lautner and these awful bloody (non-bloody?) films.

  • nina says:

I don't want to be all defensive as a kstew fan, cause everyone has a right to think she would be good ina part or not. But Kristen's basically worked with heavy hitters all her cinematic life. Her first big film was with David Fincher and Jodie Foster. She's been hand- picked by Mike Figgis and Barry Levinson and Sean Penn and Walter Salles for roles before she was old enough to vote. She's worked opposite Melissa Leo, and Robert DeNiro, and John Hurt, and Jodie Foster, and Donald Sutherland--heck, she's already worked with Viggo in On the Road. So I get some of your concerns with her possible casting, Twilight fatigue is a big problem, and no she's no Selena Gomez in terms of disneyfied Snow Whiteness. But the girl has worked with heavy hitters before, that's not a problem for her at all.

  • annie says:

Who let the Twihards out of their basements?

  • to Annie says:

Not the Twihards Annie, just the Kristen obsessed. The fans that yell about the hate that Kristen gets but have no problem hating on others. You know, hypocrites. They'll attack anybody who doesn't think Kristen is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

  • SunnydaZe says:

Kristen Stewart as Zorro?! Come on, that's crazy talk.

  • Chief says:

Kristen's a hot little piece of notquitejailbait. That's what snow white is about essentially, right? A flower just blossoming, both in beauty and sexuality? That's the subtext of the whole story, about sexual repression, and the eventual sexual awakening by the prince. Kristen fits the part, so would someone like mila kunis, but maybe she's a little too old and wise looking.

  • Ann says:

she seeks attention? Kristen Stewart?? hahah you are an idiot

  • Chief says:

She's definitely...."matured"...in the last year. I haven't seen the movie, but I may have watched her give an almost lap dance to tony soprano in a too short skirt and the girl's body is bangin'. I think she would make an even better snow white if she was wearing that skirt the whole movie and bending over a lot to pick berries.

  • chief says:

Katy Perry has nice jugs, but her eyes always look unfocused and that makes her look retarded about 90 percent of the time.

  • sarah says:

Erm, I get what you're saying cause Twilight is overexposed and the fans don't know when to chill and stuff(I like twilight, but I try not to make that fact too public). But Kristen has not taken on many projects since twilight-just runaways and on the road. So it's not like she's gobbling projects up left and right like a hungry hippo or something. She's been pretty selective, even though she is getting first pick of things right now. Again, get the knee jerk reaction to all things twilight if you have male genitals especially....but meh, beyond twilight Kristen hasn't been overexposed so good for her if she takes on a more mainstream project than her usual indie fare.
