Who'll Boycott a Jay Leno Tonight Show?

tonightsho1ban.jpg

Conan O'Brien's announcement today was like a gust of fresh air cutting through the stench of NBC's classless late night maneuverings of recent days. Now TMZ -- who broke the story initially -- has another update: With Conan apparently out, the network has offered Leno his old time slot back, along with the original name: The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. That's assuming Leno takes it back. One thing is certain: The simmering distaste for the longtime talk show host will now bubble over into bilious resentment and outright hostility, and the bad publicity is almost certain to bring new levels of booking headaches for the new, old Tonight Show. Here's ten people you can be all but certain you'll never see on the show again.

1. Patton Oswalt

Oswalt made his distaste for Leno fairly official on a blistering takedown on Comedy Death-Ray Radio, where he likened the bechinned one to Richard Nixon.

Chances: 100%

2. Norm MacDonald

A longtime Late Night with Conan O'Brien regular, who started on SNL around the same time Conan started broadcasting from 30 Rock. On his final Late Night appearance, he told some incredibly uncomfortable truths about Leno's decades of outfoxing the kings of late night.

3. Will Ferrell

Ferrell's ties to Conan go back as far as when the two worked at The Groundlings in the late '80s, where Lorne Michaels discovered O'Brien and hired him to write for SNL. Ferrell was Conan's first Tonight Show guest.

4. Jim Gaffigan

A staunch Conan loyalist who used to appear alongside the host in Pale Force, an animated series in which they fought crime with their paleness. Gaffigan tweeted today: "I'm on #teamconan Team Conan Please RT"

5. Amy Poehler

Poehler used to play Stacey Richter - the fictional kid sister of co-host Andy Richter - on Late Night.

Was never a fan of Jay's until NBC decided to take hime off the Tonight Show and replace him with Conan. That is when I became a fan of Jay Leno, I thought why take this man's show away from him. Now that he has it back, tough luck Conan, act like a man and find your own venue.

  • "T" FRANKLINVILLE, NJ says:

HEY YOU NBC MORONS!! Conan is sooo right! "The Tonight Show" after midnight is NOT "The Tonight Show" anymore!!!!
Leno you rock!.....Jimmy Fallon SUCKS! (sorry Jimmy, you look tooo nervous all the time, grow up and stop back in a few years!) Conan you "red-headed pawn" you, good luck where ever you wind up babe!

  • valerie says:

well they should of left it alone leno at 1135 and conan at 1235 and we wont have to choose the better of the of two. its to bad that n b c had to mess things up and break up a good friendship the leno and conan had. to me i really think all this was done for ratings thats all and they got those celabrates to take sides leno vs conan and general public to take sides as well, when in fact n b c knew they messed up by taking leno off at 1135 and putting conan at 1135. look people n b c had good thing back then and now they knew they messed up. i myself will continue to watch leno everynight at whatever time he comes on. because i'm one of those who watched him at 10pm since he started to come on that time slot. you could say i'm leno fan and will continue to be one. and as for conan i wish him the best of luck wherever he goes and whatever time he's on. as they say in show biz conan break a leg. live long and prosper.

Mr Leno did not look happy doing the early show to me he looked stressed out and worried, I thought he looked happier in his late show. Mr Leno go back to your late show and just do your thing (Be Our King) for late night and forget about these people who are trying to bring you down we can never please people no matter what we do I know I deal with the public just about every day of my life and it is something else, like that one song says (you cant please everyone so you got to please your self) so just do your thing Mr Leno and I will always be a fan of yours always (Conan does not have that personality nor Letterman),(Leno Is The King Of Late Night).

  • Diane says:

I am not nor have ever been a NBC fan, check their lineup. OH PLEASE!!
    G O C R A I G F E R G U S O N!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mari says:

It's NBC's call, not Jay Leno's. Why can't anyone understand that???
And I don't think Jay will lose any sleep over the above people not appearing on his show, who are these people anyway? 🙂

  • michael p mcree says:

i believe that jay leno is just jealous that someone is gatting the attention more than he is, someone that has a new flavor of comedy then him that is more up to the times then his. basicly, leno knowing that, he is just being a bully n just pushing people around to show that he can get what he wants whenever he wants it, n u know that maybe true in a sence but in all truth, the bully always get his in the end, n usually its not the way they wanted it, cause they usually end up with nothing n noone... all alone... hosting an empty show by himself, which if he keeps persueing his path, thats where he'll be, alone with nothing, where a bully deserves to be.

  • Mary Cook says:

I totally agree with you...Leno should have just retired from the tonight show and ended it with some class...now, he has embarrassed himself...in the scheme of things, how important is this really?

  • cayenne says:

no big losses in this bunch

  • BabsO says:

I have tried to watch the new Leno setup but have finally given it back to NBC....no more for me until he returns to the old 11:35 time slot, familiar format, desk, guests(sometimes squirming)to his left and Headlines, funny animals, etc.Even his rapport with Kevin was more spontaneous. Do they still have that stupid "race car"thing with the stupid image of Al Gore dangling over the stupid track? How really stupid!Conan is too silly the way he jumps around and fidgets.Conan's hair reminds me of Alfalpha's topknot hairdo(from Our Gang Comedy from the 30's)and he is not funny even though he tries. He's probablyMr.Nice Guy otherwise!Hurry back Jay.....I love you

Leno is not funny, and those who think he is...it is his WRITERS! I have never seen anyone deliver lines so expected and wooden since vaudville! He does come across as arrogant, believing he is as funny as the shmucks around him are paid to tell him he is. Conan may be an odd duck, but he can write material. He never claims to be a hot commodity. But at least his interviews seem like he is listening and ready to come out with something unpredictable. Leno's is like watching paint dry. The guest seem to talk into the air cause he ain't listening. He always has that stupid look on his face (or chin), with the smarmy smile. Don't trust him, don't like him. Have always been a David Letterman fan and Conan Fan. The rest of the late night gigs are lucky to follow either of these gentlemen. If Leno is so good, why did his new time slot bomb? Why won't he consider taking the later shift?

  • ShiningStar says:

I am soo tired of hearing about this. Jay Leno can't make any decisions about who goes where. Some people act like he has the power to dictate what NBC does. If Jay had that kind of power, he would not have left the Tonight Show in the first place. duh! And Jay is the better person in this debacle, because did he make a big stink, (like Conan and Kimmel are doing,) when he was taken off the Tonight show after being there for many years? I don't think so. He accepted the change like a mature man. But Conan and Kimmel are acting like immature sore losers. They deserve to be put in later time slots. Neither of them have what it takes to follow in the footsteps of Johnny Carson, Jack Paar, and even Jay Leno.

  • Greg says:

Oh I thought you were talking stars, not hasbeens, never were's from the list provided. Thats good because when these people are on ANY show, no one watches. Conerd, I agree you got shafted but you should never have been offered the crown when you wern't funny to wear it.

  • Phil says:

Being ripped or hated by Howard Stern and Rosie O'Donnell is like being insulted by Adolf Hitler or Attila the Hun.
O'Brien and Leno are grown men in competition in their chosen business. Stop pretending this is some kind of a romper room spat full of symbolic meaning to the entertainment industry. They all have more money than they'll ever need in their lifetimes so they don't deserve anyone's sympathy and we should be thinking about what we can do for Haitians instead of gossiping about sulking multi-millionaires

  • stan says:

i feel so sorry for both. leno making a million per week and i am guessing that conan makes at least half that. the prospect of being jobless must be overwhelming. welcome the world (kind of) that the other 98% of us live in.

  • Vicki says:

I think they should dump both Jay and Conan and give the Tonight Show to Craig Ferguson.

  • jim says:

It's good to know which so called stars will boycott Leno, so I can boycott their movies.

  • doris Puls says:

y is best--then Craig, Jimmy K, Connan and last Dave and Jimmy F.

  • Johanna says:

I thought it was Leno's rating that cause this whole fiasco.

  • D.L. Wade says:

You must be 60-80 years old, or at least have that mentality. People who prefer Leno are ardent fans of the boring, the safe, the unimaginative. (Let me guess: your favorite Leno bit is "Headlines." Guess what: HE DOESN'T WRITE THOSE JOKES.) At least Carson had the common decency to slip away and let Jay build his audience over time.

  • Kathy says:

Let's face it--Conan is just not as good as Leno. Bottom line. The ratings tell all. I think Jimmy Kimmel should do the Tonight Show. He is funny.

  • same says:

well who the hell cares about any of these creeps anyhow - Conan from the start was a real jerk when taking over the tonight show - or did anyone else actually see that - and most of these people are washed up ( one-timer ) comedians anyhow , as for the Boss , he can stay where hes at - pearl jam old out dated - it seems to be all the people mentioned either I never heard of or are washed up anyhow , very much like Conan , he'll do just fine on "FOX" along with all the other FOX loosers , I wonder how long before Glenn Beck or Hannity has 'em on their show whining about how he got screwed by Leno and NBC (liberal screws)- personally , I think Conans late night show standings dropped tremendously and they were loosing to Lettermen ( and his harem)- all it amounts too is that I'll take " the Chin" over "the Bobs Big boy " anyday !!

  • same says:

Howard Stern can bite my ass , he's about the lowesxt form of life there is - I remember when he was in washington , we kicked his ass out - he was such a piece of crap - he doesn't like Leno because Leno thinks like the majority of us and looks at Stern like hes a pedophile along with all of his pedophile followers and total loosers , what you said gives Leno credit for being a decent human being and not some red light district wannabe porno king chasing white trash . Stern can keep his affiliation with Letterman too ! Niether one of them are funny - THEY JUST SUCK AT WHAT THEY DO !!

  • same says:

Niether Letterman or Stern are funny , and anyone who watches them and thinks their funny HAS NO HUMOR - your a blockhead !!
