How Sacha Baron Cohen Conned Ron Paul Into a Romantic Bedroom Interlude

burno.jpg

Many have called Sacha Baron Cohen brave for some of the stunts he pulled in his upcoming gaystravaganza Bruno (including a same-sex kiss at a cage match that riled the audience of rednecks into a state of Coors-throwing fury), but to us, the gutsiest set piece Cohen engineered was roping failed presidential candidate Ron Paul into a bedroom for an uncomfortable, aborted seduction. Now, Paul is revealing all about the brief encounter that will have Cohen dogged by red-faced Paul supporters for the rest of his days.

Paul opened up about the escapade to conservative radio show host Curtis Sliwa (who, in a stunt worthy of Baron Cohen, once faked his own kidnapping in an attempt to win crime-fighting fame). "I was expecting an interview on Austrian economics," explains Paul, who was ushered out of a "malfunctioning" studio by producers, then led into a back area that was set-dressed to look like a hotel bedroom. From there, clumsy come-ons, pants-droppings, and angry exits ensued, as detailed in the audio above. "Why in the world didn't I sock this guy in the nose?" Paul groans, fearing the reaction of his zealous flock of fans. Don't worry, Ron: if every Republican is going to have their gay sex sting taped for posterity, at least you've already gotten yours out of the way (and ameliorated by residuals).

  • Jaux says:

Ah, Kyle ... you had me at "ameliorated."

  • Keith Hixson says:

Cohen should be prosecuted and thrown behind bars for these slanders attempts. He's a creepy jerk.

  • Inhaler says:

I like hearing Ron Paul say "raunchy."

  • Noah says:

Paul is in the wrong here. Yeah, Cohen is raunchy but its not like its raunchiness w/o a purpose. He does make important cultural points with his movies. Maybe if Paul sat down and watched his last movie, which was so culturally relevant, he would see that.

  • jacob luce says:

i want to get in the bedroom with ron paul. i want to number 3 all over his face.

  • newfers says:

Yeah, an actor should be thrown in jail, while murderous sons of bitches like the Bush crime syndicate walk free. Grow the hell up, Keith Nixon, I mean, Hixson.

  • Oh..Paul says:

We'll find out one day, that Paul actually fell for it. Then riled up interent support to disprove that he still lives in the closet, in turn cleverly fooling his fans once again.

  • It is sad that Ron Paul sounds ashamed of homosexuality. To truly be free he should learn to accept himself the way he is.

  • Matt D. says:

Ron Paul is over after this movie comes out. He'll come out as the prejudiced POC he is.

    • jeff245 says:

You are an idiot. Calling a gay guy 'queer' after he just tried to manipulate you into a hotel sex scene is not prejudiced.. That seems like a very normal reaction. If Sacha knew that Ron Paul was the only person that can save this country from itself, he probably would've picked another politician. I hate how Americans can be desensitized, yet overly sensitive at the same time. Grow up, troll...

  • Jon says:

He watches films like "Gone With The Wind."
...which is an all time classic...
But I'm truly and honestly glad we didn't elect this guy. He's living in a different generation, totally oblivious to modern-day culture in any way, shape, or form.

    • jeff245 says:

Yes, he's living in another generation - where we don't waste money, police the world, and sacrifice liberty for security. What a silly methodology... You're right, he's oblivious to our generation's desires, like Justin Beiber and Starbucks. Get a fucking clue.

  • rat says:

I liked borat as much as the next guy but it's kinda lame to play gay chicken with old people. its not really sporting. I think Cohen could have done something a lot more funny than pick on an old guy that just wants to talk about politics. And btw you people (matt d) that think your so cool because you're not prejudiced, you're only that way because you were raised that way, not because you are super special and awesome and smart. Most people didn't have that opportunity 70 years ago tard-hat.

  • Jim says:

People who are so out of touch with society don't deserve to be running it.

  • No Name says:

    It's not slander fool.

  • Ken says:

Why are people suddenly beating up on Ron Paul? He wasn't against equal marriage rights when he was running for office, but it's freaks like Cohen who are likely to make him change his mind on that subject. Doing that whole "I'm going to flame all over a straight guy" crap is one of the biggest contributing factors to homophobia.
Seriously, look up info on Ron Paul. He identifies himself as a republican, but his views are clearly libertarian. I just hope Cohen's one-man pride march doesn't make him reconsider his stance.
PS: I'm not homophobic (and my boyfriend can vouch for that), I'm just sick of gay people who try to flip straight guys.

  • lee says:

I think it's pretty funny the slant this article tries to give toward republicans when Paul himself, though running on the Republican ticket, is as much in line with Theocons as Obama is with the drug law reformers. That is, not at all. Much more, I find it hilarious that people see the word republican and automatically jump a bandwagon. It shows that people are just tools for whichever political party they swing for rather than actually giving well though out responses.

  • sdpape says:

Absolutely. Bush, Cheney, Rummy, don't forget Ted Kennedy.

  • EricCollins says:

Why would this ruin his career or make him anti-gay?
    Someone:
    A. lied about the purpose of the interview and went to something way off base
    B. came onto him with the "intention" of making a sex tape. man or woman, that isn't cool to do.
I love SBC, and I'm way more excited about the Bruno movie then I was about Borat(since Bruno tends to piss people off way more). So I don't care that he did this to Paul, I think it's very funny.
And Matt D., Paul is a Libertarian at heart, so he can not agree with homosexuality all he wants, that's his right and fits right into what he believes. What he won't do is try to stop homosexuals from living their lives as they want to.

  • Joe says:

Sacha Baron Cohen is an unfunny asshole. One day he'll get the shit kicked out of him just like Andy Kaufman, another asshole posing as a comedian.

  • Matt D. says:

Why does Cohen pick on an old man like that?

  • Brian says:

Some of you need to learn about Ron Paul before you make assumptions. Ron Paul is not opposed to gay marriage. Libertarian philosophy promotes freedom, a very specific definition of freedom. Freedom- being able to do whatever you want so long as you do not harm another person or their property. Paul is the most consistent politician in his belief in the philosophy, he does not waiver depending on subject.
As for SBC, this will probably be pretty funny, I just hope it doesn't ruin Paul's reputation.

  • Ego says:

Sacha is a comedic genius, and anyone who is bashing him should seriously consider lightening up(you might live longer). Take a joke! It's comedy!

  • Ron Paul buddy says:

Cohen is a real piece of garbage... oh wait, what he does is really "art" that serves some sort of higher purpose - get real. Just a little baby crying for attention at other people's expense.

  • Silentboom says:

Ron Paul defends Cohen's right to do this even though he disagrees in principal and Ron Paul is a Libertarian Republican. He believes everyone has the right to do whatever they like in their personal lives. Ron Paul has done so much to protect our Constitutional over the years and we should all be grateful for men like him who fight against an ocean of corruption to protect the American people. Unlike every other Politician in any office his voting record backs up his words.

  • Harrison says:

Did anyone here read or listen to the interview? Mr. Paul never said anything about homosexuality or anything. All Mr. Paul said was, when he pulled his pants down, he left the room.
If you are a straight male and are in a room, with some other guy getting naked, would you stand there because you believe he has the right to be gay?
I doubt it. That doesn't mean Mr. Paul doesn't support the other mans choice of sexual preference, he just doesn't want his beliefs pushed on him. Get real.
And yes, movies from even 10 years are better than the garbage pushed through today. Give me a break. Borat, what a sad example of American culture.

  • Tina says:

I like Ron Paul and I like Sasha Cohen. Ron Paul seems to have taken it well. It's a win for both guys.
