Shane Carruth's Upstream Color and Sarah Polley's Stories We Tell are among the initial selections unveiled Wednesday for the 2013 New Directors/New Films series. Both films are playing at the Sundance Film Festival which begins Thursday. The seven announced today hail from seven countries.

The Toronto International Film Festival unveiled its Canadian lineup Wednesday, including new work from Sarah Polley, Bruce Sweeney, Xavier Dolan, Michael McGowan and Bernard Émond. Today's 19 titles will screen in the September festival's various sections. The lineup also spotlights first-time feature work from Jason Buxton, Brandon Cronenberg, Igor Drljaca and Kate Melville.

Take This Waltz is an unusually kind film about infidelity -- not because it sidesteps or shortchanges heartbreak, but because it doesn't let any one of its characters bear the full burden of blame. That such a thing needs to or should even be assigned in this scenario is beside the point, as the film defers to the vagueries of the human heart and the way we can, despite our better judgment, form a connection with someone that can't easily be set aside.

We're still nearly five months away from the midsummer release of Sarah Polley's Take This Waltz, but it's never too soon to commence anticipating a new Michelle Williams film, or a muted Seth Rogen, or Sarah Silverman's infamous full-frontal nudity, or...
