Lincoln, Les Misérables and Life of Pi lead the pack Wendesday among the 2013 British Academy Film Award nominations, with Spielberg's pic on the 16th U.S. president receiving ten nominations including Best Film while Les Mis and Pi each received nine, also picking up Best Film noms.

Stop me if you've heard this one before: The Artist made off with Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and and fistful of other hardware at tonight BAFTA Awards ceremony in London, its final stop before the silent film's Oscar express pulls into the Kodak Theater terminus on Feb. 26. Meryl Streep also won a key awards-race victory as the institute's Best Actress, while Octavia Spencer and Christopher Plummer continued their own hot streaks in the supporting categories. Surprise! 2012 BAFTA Award Nominations Single Out Artist,  Descendants (Oh, and Drive)

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts came out this morning with its 2012 Orange British Academy Film Awards nominations, which -- wait for it -- look suspiciously like the rest of the worlds 2012 film awards nominations. In fairness, for every nod thrown in the direction of The Artist, we witnessed some refreshing recognition for the likes of Drive, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, We Need to Talk About Kevin and a few select others. Uggie's Best Supporting BAFTA Hopes Dashed

The Weinstein Co., who along with Movieline have championed Uggie the dog's gripping performance in awards season frontrunner The Artist, broke the news today via Twitter that the canine thespian, alas, has not qualified for contention in this season's BAFTA race. "@BAFTA has stated that @Uggie_TheArtist is not qualified to run as Best Supporting Actor for the role of 'DOG' #Sadmomentintime," the studio lamented. Fear not, Uggie -- the Oscars may recognize your genius yet! (Go Team Uggie!) [@WeinsteinCo]
