Sherlock Holmes may have won the weekend with a modest debut, but was it the real box office winner? Not with Tom Cruise and the Mission: Impossible gang around to flaunt their fab limited release per-screen average in everyone's faces, a precursor to next week's Christmastime blitz. And, yeah. The new Chipmunks is out. A moment of silence for all the poor souls who helped it debut in the number two slot. I'd wager even David Cross feels for you.

Now that David Cross's contractual obligations on the live-action/animation Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise are over -- the third and final of which is this weekend's Chip-Wrecked -- the comic actor isn't mincing words about the ordeal. "This last film was literally, without question, the most unpleasant experience I've ever had in my professional life," he told The Playlist. To be fair, there was never any possibility of me seeing Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked in theaters...however there was a possibility that I might opt to half-watch a complimentary in-flight screening of the threequel if the airborne opportunity ever arose. To determine whether there might be any reward to this risk, I bravely watched six new clips from the upcoming comedy and logged my observations. Hopefully you'll find them helpful when determining whether to see Fox's furry CGI trio get Chipwrecked yourself.
