“This shot depicts David Oyelowo (DUANE) in the foreground and Justin Martin (RAY) in the background. This scene was shot at D&D’s BBQ in Atlanta – one of my favorite locations in the film – it’s a home grown BBQ joint housed in a converted old gas station. David spent time with the owner of D&D’s, Greg Dabney, to study his vocal inflection, his affect and how he makes his BBQ. It was a tremendous collaboration that really paid off.” — Aimee Lagos

“This is a shot of David Oyelowo (DUANE) and I in the BBQ pit room at D&D’s BBQ in Atlanta. Here we were discussing character and dialogue, but in just a moment that tray in front of us was filled with rib racks and we were discussing how slice them up like a pro.” — Aimee Lagos

“Evan Ross, who plays DRE in the film, is in the foreground here with Hosea Chanchez in the background playing the cop. This is a very poignant scene in the film taken right from what I saw happen everyday when I was working in the inner city. In this scene police officers accost Dre without provocation as he’s walking home from school – it’s a humiliating and demoralizing experience that too many young people have to deal with on a daily basis.” — Aimee Lagos

“Evan Ross (DRE) gets into character as we prep to shoot the intense scene where he gets physically and emotionally harassed by local cops.” — Aimee Lagos

“THE PORCH in Mechanicsville– one of my favorite locations in the film. Markice Kesan Moore, Pill, Jon Chaffin, Dale Neal and J.Michael Trautmann, hang out between takes of their funny if volatile scene where KEVIN begs to join their street crew. ” — Aimee Lagos

“Evan Ross (DRE) and I prep for the next take outside the home that DRE lives in. This was one of those situations where we were shooting sundown to double for sunup so we had to hit our marks before we found ourselves in total darkness.” — Aimee Lagos

“J.Michael Trautmann (KEVIN) stands outside the corner convenience store in Mechanicsville – keeping his character fresh between takes.” — Aimee Lagos

“Evan Ross (DRE) and I go over the action for the next scene where Dre gets rid of evidence. We were happy to have our security that night as it seemed as though we weren’t the only ones who thought it might be a good spot to hide contraband…” — Aimee Lagos

“Evan Ross (DRE) and J.Michael Trautmann (KEVIN) rid a city bus in a scene where DRE tries to show KEVIN that there’s another life other than street life.” — Aimee Lagos

“This is an incredibly intense and heart-rending scene between David Oyelowo (DUANE) and Brittany Snow (CARLEY) that comes right at the climax of the film. It’s one of the most visually arresting scenes of the film shot by the incredibly talented Cinematographer, Michael Fimognari.” — Aimee Lagos
