Award-winning photojournalist and documentarian Tim Hetherington was killed on Wednesday while covering the conflict in Libya, his last effort in a career in which he took risks to bring attention to the world's many wars. In his wrenching Oscar-nominated 2010 documentary Restrepo (co-directed with Sebastian Junger), Hetherington shone a light on the emotional toll suffered by a platoon of soldiers in Afghanistan; the same year, he made the short film Diary as a personal exploration of his experience as a combat journalist.

The marketing for X-Men: First Class has been the cause of much debate on the ol' interwebs. J.J. Abrams has already released a derailed cargo train's worth of trailers for his sci-fi collaboration with Steven Spielberg. First came the explosion-riffic Super Bowl teaser, then came the phenomenal full length trailer and, most recently, Abrams unveiled a TV spot which introduced a mysteriously scarred biology teacher. To further amp up the anticipation quotient for one of summer's most eagerly awaited thrillers, Abrams is now offering video gamers an interactive Super 8 experience.

Our cinematic future includes board game adaptations like Peter Berg's Battleship, Gore Verbinski's Clue, Candy Land (perhaps directed by Lord Licorice himself), and Ridley Scott's Monopoly. We're most concerned about that last one, because, uh, can a Monopoly movie be legitimate? With Candy Land, you at least get Wonka splendor. With Monopoly, you get... property acquisition? Thimble humor? We're worried that Funny Or Die's new satirical Monopoly trailer, posted after the jump, is all too close to what the actual film will be.

Over five million people have watched last week's premiere episode of Kevin Tancharoen's Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series -- an impressively-shot introduction to baddie Kano (Darren Shahlavi) and heroes Sonya Blade (Jeri Ryan) and Jax (Michael Jai White). The second episode picks up right after the explosive cliffhanger of the debut with even more eye-catching camera work, striking action, and general badassery on display, as the show dives right into the origins of Jax and Kano's infamous bionic accoutrements.

I love Terrence Malick as much as the next guy, but come on: Can we just get The Tree of Life over with, already? Until the film premieres next month at Cannes (and opens shortly after in the U.S.), we're stuck struggling through a vortex of breathless hype and marketing that confounds at best and annoys at worst.
