Dakota Fanning Is Your Homecoming Princess

After ably performing a routine featuring a gluttonous menu of Extension Preps, Pencil Jumps, Spread Eagles, Double Hooks, Awesomes and Herkies, 15-year-old The Twilight Saga: New Moon star Dakota Fanning was crowned Homecoming Princess of North Hollywood's Campbell Hall Episcopal on Friday. We now have yet further evidence proving what we already knew: that there is literally nothing Dakota can't do. This should tide us over until she receives the Chopper of the Year Award from the Diamond Empire Radically Customized Motorcycle Club later this month.

TNT Picks Up Southland, Pits Against Leno

As predicted, TNT has picked up Jay Leno's first scripted casualty, Southland, after a month of negotiations with Warner Bros. Fittingly enough, when the sophomore cop drama makes its cable premiere in January, the unceremoniously ousted series will face off directly against its death maker.

It's Elementary, Dear MacFarlane

For those concerned that they would die without ever seeing a sequin-overall-clad Stewie Griffin hustle to "Turn The Beat Around" after Microsoft pulled out of its sponsorship deal last week, fear not. Justice will be served by Sherlock Holmes himself. Yesterday, Warner Bros. announced that they would use Family Guy Presents: Seth & Alex's Almost Live Comedy Show to promote the studio's Christmas-timed Holmes. The Nov. 8 Family Guy program will now feature a sneak preview of the film starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. [Associated Press]

Katie Holmes Joins Romantics Bridal Party

· Katie Holmes has taken on an almost shocking amount of projects for the next year, adding the indie ensemble dramedy The Romantics to her slate for 2011. That makes three films in the works for Tom Cruise's war bride, who coincidentally wlll play a bridesmaid to Anna Paquin's bride-to-be. Holmes replaces Liv Tyler in a cast that includes Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood, Adam Brody and Jeremy Strong as a gang of college friends who reunite for Paquin's nuptials. So basically The Big Chill with a wedding where the funeral goes. Same difference. [Variety]

Friday Box Office: This Is OK

Is This Is It's Friday haul of $7,900,000 a success? On the one hand, it's good enough for first place, but on the other, expectations for a higher gross were dramatically inflated. Many box office pundits are pointing out that This Is It will most likely trail the total gross of the Hannah Montana concert film -- an odd comparison to be sure, since the only overlap in their target audiences came from the adults who dropped their kids off at the mall for Hannah. How many 10-year-olds do you know who were super psyched for Michael Jackson's swan song? The full Friday numbers, after the jump:

For Your Toleration

We've been Adam Lambert-intensive recently, and I'm sorry. But have you heard the new single? Little is known about "For Your Entertainment" except the following: 1) No one can prove this is actually Adam Lambert's voice. My guess is Gavin DeGraw moonlights as a dark, bi-curious carnival barker now. 2) This may be the secret single to High School Musical 4: Goths Graduate A Little Late. 3) It steals more than a few cues from the recent output of Britney Spears. Can we start encrusting Allison Iraheta's victory tiara yet? [YouTube]

Miramax President Out, NYC Offices Closed

Four years after inheriting the reins at Miramax Films from the departed Harvey Weinstein, Daniel Battsek is out at the Disney-owned minimajor. Uglier still, the esteemed studio's New York offices will shutter permanently, and what operations remain will be consolidated in Los Angeles. That's quite the turnaround from Disney's previous announcement it would simply scale back Miramax's titles to about three per year. Battsek's tenure included multiple (if costly) Oscar triumphs including Tsotsi, The Queen and No Country For Old Men, but the studio's flagging fortunes in '09 and Disney's belt-tightening were ultimately too much for the exec to surmount. Best wishes to him and his New York colleagues, and a moment of silence for a great label brought to rest. [DHD]

· That right up there is Mary-Kate Olsen in costume (as George Clinton?) in the upcoming film Beastly.

· Let Paul Reubens feel your love. "I am constantly hoping that, like, I'm still relevant at all," he told Details.

· Might Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer replace Kenny Ortega on Footloose? Depends on how much moonshine they're currently drinking over at Paramount.

· Kurt Sutter was confronted by a hot d-girl in the wake of his NBC-bashing comments, then proceeded to have a delicious, hate-f*cky conversation with her.

· American Dad has been renewed until 2011. Knowing this would happen doesn't make it any easier.

Gattaca TV

Buried in a Variety article today (but caught by the eagle eyes at Slashfilm) is the news that Denis Leary's production company is remaking the 1997 Ethan Hawke film Gattaca as a TV series. What's Gattaca, you ask? Oh, only the best sci-fi film ever that no one has seen. I need the TV show to incorporate three elements from the original movie, and then I'll be happy: that incredible Michael Nyman score, a stuffy Gore Vidal, and a handful of homoerotic swimming competitions. Good luck! [Variety]

Roman Roundup: Jail Pics, Swiss Backlash, Bail Rejected (Again)

Setting aside Gore Vidal's unfortunate conflation of rape victim and hooker the other day, it's been a surprisingly quiet week on the Roman Polanski front. And then the jailed filmmaker went and made another futile bail appeal to the Swiss courts -- and the Euro press sent along a snapshot of his less-than-posh Swiss digs. Read on to have a look.

Eddie Murphy Meets Top Model

The CW announced this morning that Eddie Murphy, last seen in Imagine That, will make a special appearance during the November 18 season finale of America's Next Top Model. Instead of guest-judging, the friend-to-fatsuits will support his daughter, Bria, who will be involved in the Julia Clancey final runway fashion show. Fun fact: Bria is credited for the children's drawings in Murphy's Daddy Day Care. [E!]
