In a hearing today for the case of the $2,500 necklace that was alleged stolen from a jewelry shop by Lindsay Lohan in January, a judge found Lohan in violation of her probation and sentenced her to 120 days in jail. In addition to her time in the clink, Lohan must perform 480 hours of community service, 360 of which must be at the Downtown Women's Center in Los Angeles so that, according to Judge Stephanie Sautner, "perhaps then she will see women who are truly needy and might change her behavior." Does this mean the Gotti pic is back off? [E! Online]
Hot on the heels of today's confirmed Hunger Games casting of Katniss and Prim Everdeen's mama (to be played by Paula Malcolmson) comes a bit of rumormongering: According to Vulture, John C. Reilly has been offered the part of District 12's victor-turned-lush-turned-middle aged mentor, Haymitch Abernathy. Chime in, mockingjays -- would Reilly fly as your big screen Haymitch?

Peter Jackson set on fire the less glamorous Middle Earth known as the internet when he announced today, via Facebook, that Ian Holm "will be returning as the older Bilbo Baggins" in The Hobbit. He also clarified that a voiceover in the Hobbit trailer that many fans pegged as Holm's was actually Martin Freeman's, "taken from a script read through we recorded when the cast first arrived." Just me, or does Peter Jackson prefer actors with the milkiest skin ever? [Peter Jackson via Facebook]
If you saw the beautiful Oscar-winning 2007 musical romance Once, you probably know that in real life, actor-musicians Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová formed the folk duo The Swell Season -- and fell in love off-screen. There are (un)officially 100 million actors in Savages and all of them are awesome. Variety reports that Emile Hirsch is the latest to join the cast of the Oliver Stone film. No word yet on what role Hirsch will play, but hopefully one that let's him have as much cracked out fun as he did in Taking Woodstock. [Variety]
The Hunger Games roll call continues with today's casting bit: Irish actress Paula Malcomson will play the mother of Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Primrose (Willow Shields) in Lionsgate's upcoming novel adaptation. TV watchers may know Malcolmson from her extensive small screen work (Trixie from Deadwood! Amanda from Caprica! The lady that Sun shot on the boat on LOST!); she's a character actress who leaves memorable marks even in small parts, which sounds perfect for the role of Mama Everdeen -- a woman left despondent and emotionally crippled after the death of her husband. When X-Men: First Class producer Bryan Singer was looking for a director to take the helm of the X-Men franchise, he had "hundreds of names" on his list of candidates for the gig - but Matthew Vaughn wasn't initially one of them. And then a little volcano with an unpronounceable name grounded cross-Atlantic flights, leading to a chance meeting between Singer and Vaughn facilitated by none other than Vaughn's Kick-Ass star, Aaron Johnson.

Writes Melissa Lafsky in a great piece for The Awl: "[T]he chicks get to shout and punch and spout out lists of classic horror films and treat boys like dryer lint and generally act AWESOME. And they don't get killed for doing so (well, ok, some of them get killed -- but Jesus, it's a horror movie)." It's like the anti-Sucker Punch! [Awl]
While the will-she-won't-she-will-she merry-go-round of news surrounding Lindsay Lohan's involvement in Gotti: Three Generations continues, there is one project the embattled starlet is definitely not participating in any longer: Inferno, the Matthew Wilder-directed film about the troubled life of porn star Linda Lovelace. Lohan was set to play Lovelace, but has since been replaced by Malin Akerman -- who has apparently found that the Internet is her best friend while researching the life of a famous porn star.

Prom screenwriter Katie Wech has been hired to write another teen movie for Disney, which may or may not follow the same characters. All that depends on whether or not the PG-rated teen film rouses audiences when it gets released next week. Judging from the kinda adorable videos, though, let's all just assume Prom 2 will be coming out sometime next spring. [THR]
There's a heartbreaking relevance to this week's historical drama The Bang Bang Club, based on the true story of four photographers who risked their lives to cover the brutalities of civil war in apartheid-era South Africa; like photojournalists Tim Hetherington and Chris Hondros, both tragically killed this week in Libya, two of the four founding members of the so-called club fell victim to the violence they fought to bring to the world's attention. Days before Hetherington and Hondros died, Movieline spoke with actor Taylor Kitsch about the responsibility of portraying real-life South African photojournalist Kevin Carter and the risks Carter and his colleagues took, emotionally and physically, in the line of duty.
