Steven Soderbergh is Directing Second Unit on The Hunger Games, Because of Course
Further evidence that Steven Soderbergh can't possibly retire early as previously reported: Even with Haywire and Contagion to promote and Channing Tatum's stripper movie to shoot this year, the Oscar-winner has found time to shoot second unit on Lionsgate's now-filming adaptation of The Hunger Games.
As picked up on by The Playlist, various crew members on the production Tweeted recently that Soderbergh is in town to film second unit for old pal Gary Ross. (The two previously worked together on Pleasantville, which Soderberg produced and Ross directed.) His second unit work on the film, now filming in Charlotte, NC, is expected to begin this weekend.
Set electrician Chrys Blackstone, who's been Tweeting up a storm from the star-studded set (see if that lasts for long, if Lionsgate cracks down on production spoiler Tweets) has shared some particularly enthusiastic Tweets, not only with his colorful Soderbergh musings ("Am i to [sic] observant when a major Hollywood director like Steven Soderbergh walks by & the 1st thing i notice is the awful bruise on his neck?") but with celeb sightings from daily shoots.
Meanwhile, we're left wondering: What will Soderbergh's Panem look like?
