Comic-Con Cosplayer Profile: Mileena from Mortal Kombat

comiccon_cosplayermortalkombat.jpgMovieline's Comic-Con cosplayer profile series began with Chef Vader, continued with the Halo Spartans, and alighted on a 9-year-old Hit Girl. Today, we meet a costumed Mortal Kombat-loving Con-goer from Tucson, Ariz. who crafted her own revealing outfit with just a few scant yards of fabric. Stuck at a railroad crossing just outside of the Convention Center -- standing next to her own personal Liu Kang -- she spoke with Movieline while hordes of badge holders waited to cross the tracks.

Name: Rosanna Rocha

Age: 22

Hometown: Tucson, Ariz.

How would you describe your costume?

I'm Mileena from Mortal Kombat. Basically I took a bathing suit and covered it in fabric. It took three weeks to sew. I just used a bathing suit as a pattern and sewed it from that.

Why did you choose to dress as this character?

The new Mortal Kombat game came out, and I really liked it. Also, the movie's coming out so I was like, I should do a Mortal Kombat costume. Mileena's my favorite girl, because she's crazy. [Laughs]

What do your friends and family think of you dressing up for Comic-Con?

Oh, they're all really supportive. My mom helped me buy all the fabric, and my friend is a fashion designer and she helped me sew some of it. They're all like, 'You're hot, do it!' And I like to do stuff like this all the time.

How much did your costume cost you to make?

Well, I have the boots. Those were $30 just by themselves. But the fabric was pretty cheap -- it was only like $9.99 a yard, and it's a tiny costume so I only used two yards of that. It was more the time spent making it than the money.

Is this your first time cosplaying?

Yeah, it's the first time I've been to Comic-Con. It's really fun! There's a lot of waiting involved, a lot of lines for the panels and stuff. But it's very exciting.

Rosanna! You're Impressive! Gorgeous! I'd bet that behind the mask there's a cute nose and a lovely smile with nice teeth. (Unlike the teeth appliances worn by Trek movie/TNG KLINGON actors. Teeth like a trout's!)
    Rosanna, ---well done!
