Sherlock Holmes -- Guy Ritchie's 2009 blockbuster take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's famous 19th century investigator -- struck such a chord with its witty bromantic banter and sense for high period adventure, why not repeat the formula for the sequel? Ah, that brusque Holmes charm, that crackling Downey-Law chemistry! Sumptious set design, copious karate chops! The introduction of Holmes nemesis Moriarty (Jared Harris) should shake things up a bit, while Noomi Rapace as a new feisty lady sidekick wins my opening weekend interest. But seriously: After all the ass-kicking Rapace did in the Millenium trilogy, is that the best knife throw she can muster?

Verdict: Despite the cringe-inducing sight of RDJ in drag (that blue eyeshadow does nothing for him), it's just enough to earn my Dec. 16 vote over Tom Cruise (not cross-dressing, to my knowledge) in Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol.
