NSFW: Terrible Texter Leaves Voicemail Rant For Theater That Kicked Her Out

text_message250.jpgMonday is slowly turning into Viral Voicemail Day at Movieline, where one (fake) series of answering machine messages for the stars now gives way to a single voicemail for the managers at Austin's venerable cinema institution Alamo Drafthouse. According to Drafthouse boss Tim League, this is legit fury from a customer ejected from a screening for texting during a movie -- a big no-no for the venue. Click through to listen and decide for yourself.

Regardless of the rant's veracity and/or provenance, Drafthouse patrons will see the following video in front of the theater's R-rated programming starting this weekend. "Ma'am," League wrote today at the Drafthouse blog, "you may be free to text in all the other theaters in the Magnited States of America, but here at our 'little crappy ass theater,' you are not. Why you may ask? Well, we actually do give a f*$k."

Amen, son. And you know what? Some idiots will still break out their phones during the movies this weekend and forevermore. Oh well. One can only hope that makes for equally entertaining voicemails down the line.

Bravo. During my screening of X-men, I saw someone IN THE FRONT ROW break out their phone several times. Even if movies aren't a sacred institution to you, why would you drop $10+ bucks for 2 hours in front of a movie screen and then purposely keep in touch with the real world? I don't understand it at all.

    Love this.

  • Joe Leydon says:

They take this stuff very seriously at the Alamo Draft House. In fact, according to one promo they run before movies there, they will call Ann Richards back from the grave to kick your ass if you misbehave.

  • Tim says:

Went there once. I saw many warnings to not pull crap like that.

  • Jason says:

Every single anything that Ive seen at The Draft House, since its start, they have always had a disclaimer. This made my week.

  • SD says:

Pretty sure that the house lights are up before the movie starts so if you get there in good time you should be able to find your seat without a flashlight.
So in addition to being rude and entitled this person was also quite probably late to the screening.
If I had a cinema that enforced this near me I would probably go more rather than waiting for Netflix.

  • Morgo says:

sometimes if i'm a bit bored i check my phone during a movie but i keep it in my bag so nobody can see the light. I hate when you can see the lights bobbing around.

  • Margo says:

I know I'm a curmudgeonly old fuck, but what are they texting about? Text messages should be co-ordinates (I'm here, this is the address, we'll be late) and, I will allow, sparing use may be made of them to brighten up a dull commute or wait. But really - what are you texting about in a damn cinema? 'Yo it's really dark here'? 'OMG it was Earth all along!' ? 'U will never believe what Soylent Green really is!!1!'?
