The Lord of the Rings Live in Concert Announces 2011 Tour Dates

With The Hobbit -- excuse me, The Hobbit: The Unexpected Journey -- a year and a half away from hitting screens, what's a LOTRer to do with all that free time? If you're a West Coast Middle-earther, circle your calendar for October 2011 when the live Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring concert tour hits, performing Howard Shore's award-winning score in tandem with a digital screening of the film.

The live concert premiered in New York in 2009, the same year that Star Wars in Concert debuted, also combining a screening of the beloved film with a live orchestral accompaniment. This fall's tour dates, however, mark the first time West Coast fans will have the chance to experience the Lord of the Rings concert, with dates in nine cities running from October 12-23.

The October 2011 run of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in concert will be followed by similar tour dates for The Two Towers in 2012 and The Return of the King in 2013, on each film's tenth anniversary. More info here.

Star Wars in Concert, meanwhile, comes to The Hollywood Bowl this weekend, and combines selections of John Williams compositions from all six films, narrated by Anthony Daniels and synced with newly edited footage sequences projected on a screen.
