TRAILER: Could Passion Play Be the Megan Fox/Mickey Rourke Trainwreck You've Been Waiting for?

After a troubled, 20-year road from script-development to screen, Passion Play is coming to select theaters. Then, just in case you blink, it will hit DVD three weeks later. Word of mouth out of Toronto was that the film was a disaster, and the theater-to-DVD release window pretty much backs that up. But after watching the trailer, I can't help but wonder: Can a film with Mickey Rourke falling in love with an angel played by Megan Fox while trying not to get killed by Bill Murray be totally worthless?

I mean, sure, it very well could still be worthless. The trailer looks really nice (as does any film shot by the great Christopher Doyle), and I'm a sucker for carnival settings, but it's certainly not a knockout. Also, with all the fawning and wonder over Megan Fox's wings in the trailer, I've also got a pretty good idea of where the movie could go wrong.

But back to this casting: Mickey Rourke as a down and out Jazz Musician, Bill Murray as a bitter gangster and Megan Fox as an angel? On paper, I'm ready to see this! And Bill Murray looks like he's having a great time! For my money, even an embarrassing, heart-on-the sleeve movie about an angel played by Megan Fox sounds more interesting than 3/4 of what's coming out these days.

Verdict: Still curious! Those who have seen it, feel free to chime in about why I'm right or wrong.
