Who Scored Big in Week 18 of SNL's Relevancy Poll?

Armed with a battalion of celebrity cameos -- not to mention a pseudo co-hosting gig by Tom Hanks -- there wasn't a whole lot of airtime to go around on the Elton John-hosted SNL over the weekend. As such, this week's Relevancy Poll is a bit top-heavy. Who excelled despite the limited chances? (Only nine sketches made it to air.) On to the poll!

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg1. Fred Armisen (Last Week: 9) Armisen came out swinging as Muammar Gaddafi with pretty politically charged satire on why the U.S. is attacking Libya. Armisen also scored as Ringo Star, as Lawrence Welk, and Queen Elizabeth.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg2. Jason Sudeikis (Last Week: 12)

Sudeikis was a man on fire with what appeared to be a new sense of purpose thanks to his reunion with former castmate Will Forte. Honestly, why isn't there a Forte-Sudeikis movie?

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg3. Bill Hader (Last Week: 5)

Surprise! The highlight of another strong night in Hader's MVP season was as a jetpack-equipped Richard Branson.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg4. Andy Samberg (Last Week: 7) Samberg scored big marks by getting the often hit-and-miss "Laser Cats" on the air once again. Also, he saved "Update" with his madman Nicolas Cage impression.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg5. Kristen Wiig (Last Week: 2)

Wiig led of the night with the (starting to get tired) Doneesee, plus stared as a female shot put champion in the "ESPN Classic" sketch.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg6. Taran Killam (Last Week: 13) Interesting week for Killam. It was probably his weakest week, even though he had a good amount of airtime. In a weird way, this is a good thing -- he's integrating himself into the cast enough so that he can appear with less-than-A-game material.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg7. Nasim Pedrad (Last Week: 3) Not a huge night for Pedrad. Though, since it wasn't the greatest week for any female cast member not named Wiig, Pedrad escaped relatively unscathed after the cold open and an appearance in "The Silver Screen."

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg8. Paul Brittain (Last Week: 8)

Brittain had only one appearance of note, but it was a great one; his take on a BBC anchor who is unnaturally amused by a British series about jars just may have been the funniest thing on the show.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg9. Kenan Thompson (Last Week: 1)

Before the two weeks hiatus, Kenan had his best show of the season. Not this week; an appearance as Sir Mix-a-Lot and an Update segment were his only big appearances.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg10. Seth Meyers (Last Week: 10) Overall, Meyers has had a nice year on Update. Two of the Update segments were well done, but Meyers himself was working with some of his weakest material of the season. The last joke of the evening about Times Square waiters, "Sounds like a good place to go on a last date," which was met with silence pretty much sums up Update for the week.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg11. Bobby Moynihan (Last Week: 4) Some bit parts here and there, so he wasn't MIA like Jay Pharoah, but no starring roles.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg12. Abby Elliott (Last Week: 6)

Yes, we've been here before. After the cold open, her night was over.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg13. Vanessa Bayer (Last Week: 11)

Like Elliott, other than her appearance along with every other female cast member in the Lawrence Welk cold open, Bayer wasn't much of a player in this show.

snl_poll_jay_pharoah.jpg14. Jay Pharoah (Last Week: 14) Nothing from Pharoah this week. Hopefully he's saving something special for Helen Mirren?

Man, I do not get your love for Taran Killam. He just comes off so high-school hammy. The Ian McKellen as Gandalf bit was not just tired and easy, but watching him try to sell it was embarrassing.

Screw the jars, Brittan saying "jizzed" in a British accent put that sketch over the top!

I agree with your remarks regarding Sudeikis' rejuvenation. It was just great to see him and Will together again. I could laugh at that stupid open-mouthed grin of his in the ESPN sketch all damn day. It's funny you mentioned a movie with them, because when their sketch aired I found myself considering the utter absurdity/possible genius of a Jon Bovi movie. This ultimately led to a headache when I realized that Jon Bovi would have make the opposite of a movie, whatever that is.
But they are so great together Im officially seconding your motion for a Forte/Sudeikis movie.

Forte & Sudeikis have recently wrapped up 'A good old fashioned orgy' 😉
